Level II PSIA - Should I go for it?

Anyone have a level II PSIA certification? Should I go for mine?

Will it help me get the chics on the ski school?

    LOL

As to getting the chicks, might actually do the opposite, and drive them away. My full cert pin went in the river just outside Vail, an hour after I got it. I wasn't very fond of the system, but did it to get the pay raise, then tossed it..lol

    Good luck.

Does anyone have some good tips on maintaining an equal weight distribution when exiting a wide radius turn?

come on you know you want to answer the question

    To the OP
You get paid more that in itself is worth it. I'm going for my level two this year too. Sure I'll feel like a fag for half a day doing drills on groomers (I had to take my level one the afternoon of a pow day - while they made me sit inside and do bullshit paperwork I seriously considered saying fuck this instruction bullshit and going skiing, but alas I heldout) but hopefully the pay/benifts will be worth it. Hopefully

I don't think it matters what 'level' you are-I doubt they will follow you up on the roof.

Pay raises are good, but on the whole, the PSIA thing is pretty freaking gestapo.

    I will think about it.

I bought ski instructers book read mostly maybe O.K. helps in communicating if you can not only ski but know how to transfer the knowledge and make people understand.
As you leave the turn you might go with an inclination to the hill.We say "Bergski" and "Talski" that is the one beiing higher is "Berg-" variety.
You must not keep equal extension on both skis, rather Bergski is in front ( I do it intuitivly ), so you donßt cross skis over due to teh tip fo the lower ski beiing not crossable.
It ´s like with a motorcycle you get centrifugal force in a curve and when you exit the curve it stops - then the force that kept you in the curve will throw you down if you don´t delete it as the centrifugal force is now gone.
Whatever technique you used to counteract the centrifugal force you must now cancel at the speed it takes to get from curve to exit of curve - this cancelling effort can throw you down so sometimes it makes sense to reduce curving till you go straight reasonably slowly within a second maybe or two not within a very short time.
Then you start going faster as the curve created friction energy stealing speed so you have to move your point of gravity forwards or fall onto your back ( happens all the time reson I am injured I went into 60 % or 50 % steep fallline and "took off" till I fell on my back cracking the knee ).
Imagine your point of gravity - if you were attracted to a gravitational field earth or sun then what point given the weight you have in that dot your material beiing millions of times as heavy as steel would represent you ? UU
This point must be pulled down so you keep standing to counteract gravity while the POG must also be moved sideways to counteract the centrifugal force. This is beeing done wrong even in Championships where it leads to falls.
much more to be said ... DD
Going down makes is possible to keep point further inwards so less inclination is needed ... you can delegate movement to moving more sideways or down dependend on your muscle strength. After moguls you might be so tired you just keep standing and lean into the curves more ... see how you optimise it so you dont drop down in fatigue at any point. UU DD
If you go down and up towards end of curve you can cancel changing centrifugal pull by moving from curving to straight by moving up, as then the POG goes up and centrifugal outwards force rises as it attacks the skiier at a higher angle.
The skieer with UU will be able to take a less steep curve, but the one with DD more steep (or at higher speed).
But in another technique you go down in the middle quickly relieving the ski of pressure to better turn while your body contracts. What seems like going down is de facto a pulling ski off the ground to turn faster.

we had a random party at my house a few days ago, and out of nowhere some kid comes rushing out of my room yelling about who has all the fat skis and the DH bike, I try to explain to him that none of my skis are fat(explosives) and he proceeds to try to give me a speech on how is volkl 5 stars are the greatest thing ever in powder and I should sell all my other skis to buy a pair (I have 4 pair of 190 explosives and some iggys in the room). He starts to mention how he is an instructor and is going for his level 2 certification, mid sentence, I pick up my jug of carlo rossi and go drink in the basement, fucking ski instructors.

Idiot seriousally many ski instructor have a fat ski phobia because stuff like explosives arent viewed as "high performance ski" they view on skiing is pretty closed minded.

What sad is this year my thugs will more than likely be the fattest ski in the locker room at snowbird.

Get if you are pursuing this as a career. Most "high end" ski instructor jobs require either a level II or III to be considered. And your pay will go up. If you are just screwing around for a couple winters or doing it for a free pass, it's not worth it.

PushwackerinPA - I am almost sure Franz,Kev and Dean will have you beat as they have been on the fat ski trend for longer that your vast 2-3 years at the Bird.P.S.I.A = Probably Stay Inside Anyways - Sorry for the reality check but please I'm almost sure more than one pair of Thugs will be at the Bird let alone in the locker room.

Preetty Silly Isn't Anyway - well I can comment becuse I have a pins for boarding and tele - and the east coast crews for tele (Mickey Stone)and boards (Tom Vickery and Holly) are great. I have learned a lot and met some great people. I have heard the the alpine is far more rigid than the other sports. Remeber 1/2 the level 3 in tele is off piste! pretty good for east coast. They even got me into the jump pools at Lake Placid!
Yes as a 2 or 3 you get better job offers, more $ and better pro-forms (thanks Burton). Just because you met a few tools, does not mean they are all worthless. Go for it - you get out what you put in. The 2 exam does suck but you will learn tons and be a better what ever you ride for it.
