Any experience with Dynafits on fats?
I will be buying some skis like Coomba, Hellbent, Fisher Watea or Gotama's for next season and I'm considering between Fritschi Freeride's or Dynafits. I'm doing mostly touring, but also a fair amount lift or heli assisted off piste.

Plenty of people have dynafits on skis in the 100-110 waste width, even bigger. They are stiffer than Fritchis, no real issue there with any width ski.

I've got dynafit and fritchi set-ups. For me, it comes down to boots, actually. I like big stiff boots for resort skiing, but those make for somewhat uncomfortable skinning. I think flexible, light touring boots are a little disappointing in performance at the resort, but they are good for skiing variable backcountry conditions if paired with wide-ish skis and great for the 90% of your day spent going uphill. Obviously, there are people out there skiing some very demanding terrain with pretty light weight gear, so it is possible to get plenty of downhill performance with less than an alpine setup. I haven't tried any of the newest boots, but it seems as though you can get boots at both ends of the spectrum for each style of binding now. Fritchis give you the option of a true alpine boot, of course-- I'm not sure how close the new scarpa/garmont/dynafit boots come to that level of downhill performance. So whichever bindings you choose, I think two pairs of boots are necessary.
I am considering the exact same skis, as well as the G3 el Hombre (136/105/124). For me the only issue is brakes. I hate skiing anywhere without brakes (if you've ever watched your ski rocket several hundred vertical feet down a glacier and into a crevasse, you'd know how I feel).
I think Dynafits would be better for wide skis than FRs, because they're stiffer and they hold the boot closer to the ski (so less torque on the system). And there is no comparison for touring. Don't worry about durability - the engineering on the Dynafits is pure genius.
But the widest brakes for Dynafits are 100mm. Does anyone have any experience bending them to 105mm? They look pretty flimsy to me.
I have dynafits on kilowatts and fritchi's on gotama's. I have mega-rides that i use with the kilowatts and use my alpine boots with the gots. I feel like the mega rides are not stiff enough for the gotamas.
Once you go fat, you never go back.....er something like that.

solly brake arms can be used in place of the dynafit ones
all you have to do is drill out the little hole in the brake on the dynafit
or you can just remove the dynafit brake arms and bend them in a vise.
the only "issue" i have with dynafits on wider skis, 105+ for example, is that they are so stiff and so low rise they can be very fatiguing to ski on hard snow when it comes to carving.
Thank you for the information about using Solly arms - I wasn't aware they worked with Dynafit brakes.
I understand that Dynafit sells a riser that might help with the carving issue on fat skis. To me, "carving, Dynafits and fat skis" don't really fit in the same sentence, unless it's frozen corn in the spring, in which case everything fatigues me.
Dynafits are cool. Do it. And try the 100mm brakes on before, sometimes they fit a bit wide (and sometimes they don't.....)
I have Dynafits on Prophet 100, Big Stix 106, Fatty Bros (115 underfoot). I have no negative things to say about these setups. The 100-106 doesn't really feel that fat anymore. The Dynafits are way stiffer then the Fritschi and I love carving those Line 100 at the resort, so fun. A million times better then Freerides and never cared to notice the slop before. But all you will want to do is tour on Dynafit and why not bring the fattest thing possible for the way down since they are sooooo dang light. I'm even thinking of putting some on my Iggy FFF, just a matter of time really and finding someone I trust to drill those skis.

I can't believe that day was on Dynafits Kya. Kya is one of the smoothest skiers I've been able to ski with, so I can see how he pulled that off. I can say with almost 100% certainty, Z and marshal would be picking up little pieces of plastic and metal if attempted (by no means am I implying Z and shal' aren't smooth, they just have the ability to break ANYTHING without a DIN of at least 16:D ).
But I'm also like, literally half their size, so that helps.

I've skied equal time on Dynafits and Dukes this season on Coomba's and Rapid Transit's. I'll admit that the Rapid Transit's are on the skinny side of fat, but the Coomba's are fat enough. I was curious about the dukes and mounted them for sh*t's and grins. I prereleased out of the Dukes twice...the Dynafits have held solid. Both were/are set on DIN 9. Folks who are not in the know on Dynafits dismiss them based upon limited experience, knowledge about how to keep the female inserts on the boots clear of ice, etc. I know because I used to say the same things. Long story short, got rid of the Dukes and settled on FR's as a compromise for inbounds where I may do some slackcountry. Dynafits rule the backcountry IMHO...after lugging the same skis with Dynafits around where I had previously used Dukes, I became a true believer. The weight savings is too significant to ignore based upon very minor considerations of DIN settings. Now...if you're pushing 250 lbs....we're talking apples and oranges here. But for a normal weight person, I think the DIN 10 max on the dynafits is enough.
I finally blew $$ out my ass and got Vertical ST's and Zzero C-TF's. I have not decided what ski to throw them on yet, but they will be in the 98-105mm range most likely.

Based on my experience, Dynafits are fine big guy/fat ski bindings. I'm 240+ lbs., naturally strong athlete, 51 y.o. (thus a non-hucker), ski more cautiously in the BC tho often w/ a big pack (i.e., multi-day trips). I have been using Dynafit Comforts at 10DIN (which, IMO, is equivalent to >10 DIN on my FR+) since my switch from telly last spring. They've worked flawlessly on my 173 Icelantic Shamans and 186 Jak BC's, releasing when they should, no prereleasing. Lots of verts skiing more aggressively on the Shamans in lift areas, while Jak BC's are strictly for BC. I agree with all prior posts re a clean and well-engaged pin/socket. Also, keep your rear posts well greased, and make certain that the bindings are mounted to fit your boots, so that the rear boot fixture lines up with the pins.Quote:

I've got Dynafits on my Gotamas and the 100mm brakes work without any mods although they just barely clear. The guys that mounted them did a good job.
