20 to 30 degrees above normal!
:cussing:
Global warming is just a fad.
normal temperature fluctuations are also a fad!
Please define 'normal', on a global scale, followed with reports of rivers in the yellowstone area reaching 83 degrees, for the first time EVER, and boiling trout to death.
Forget about Greenland, Antarctica, the Arctic, the retreating glaciers in S. America, Tibet, Russia, Europe, Canada, and the Rockies.
Oh, and the enlarging of the Sahara, the Gobi, the Atacama, and the drought in Australia.
That must all be bullshit.
Hey doc, Are you up in B'ham now?
It's all in your mind, doc.
Actually, I hate this shit.
I was out in 102 temp today and was grateful when I left the shop that is was a chilly 92.
You'd feel better about it if you had made the Hood itty bitty mini.
No, still working in Ellensburg. I am doing some climbing near Bellingham. The glaciers are melting!
Climbing is nowhere near as fun as skiing or cycling. Way more work. To be honest with you I’m not even sure why I climb, it sucks most of the time.
I’m still not sure where I will be in September hopefully near Splat;) . It would be nice if I end up in Ellensburg, even if it is 100 here. If not here I will most likely end up back in Cal. maybe Tahoe.
Ellensburg may not have anything going on, but its close to the mountains, great skiing, climbing, Cheep, and I can pretend I’m smart here and know one really questions it.
Here is a little TR, no skiing. It was snowing on Mt Stuart the end of June. Now 100… I ran into my Avatar up there on Stuart he was upset I was using his photo.
Someone needs to tell Cheney to turn off that damn Halliburton global climate change machine...
Please take note that the state in question recorded the state record over 45 years ago, you know, before I became popular. While you're at it, notice only one record high has been recorded in the 2000's. Only 4 recorded in the 90's. Now look at the 30's. 24 recorded high temperature records in the 1930's.
The numbers don't lie, but the special interest groups, corporations and politicians are all making a fortune off of you. Keep fluffing me, for their sake.

I plan on beating the heat by spending at least half my day standing around on fresh 320 degree asphalt :cussing:
The problem is that the AC in my Jeep is out and that damn thing is an oven.
I'd fix it, but fear ripping a hole in the ozone should I accidentally leak some CFC into the ionosphere.
Global warming is a problem, but it's being marketed just like anything else. A lot of BS clouding a serious problem.
Where were the GL cries when Baker was dumped with 1140" just 9 years ago?
Umm, GW, you need to go and do a little more research, respectfully.
US averages are irrelevant, they comprise a tiny fraction of the globe's surface, and mostly within currently temperate climes...but that is changing.
BTW, how can one claim that precipitation is not affected by temperature, either up or down?
That is simply....ignorant.
Or willfully obtuse.
So, how are people making fortunes on GW hype, exactly?
Please expound.
I don't get the 'expose reality= huge dollars" angle...I certainly haven't given extra cash to any charlatans...what is your point?
Haven't petro companies vastly increased their profits due to 'marketed' fears?
Is that any odder, or less worthy of scrutiny?
Or any more (or less) real, in terms of what it has cost YOU?
Who, exactly, are making these 'billions', off of exploring the reality of this potential threat?
Please be specific.
As in NAMES.
Gracias.
(Edit: Grrr plainly makes a point clear...regional areas will be affected differently by the global climatic changes, but taken as a whole, the picture is NOT pretty. Open your eyes to the entire planet, and not simply some regional anomoly. That year was not the best for many, many other places on the planet.)
Wake up.
And *IF* I may be wrong, well, AWESOME!!!! I'M PSYCHED!!!
YOU WIN!!!! CELEBRATE!!!!
BUT...If I am right....uhhh....bummer.
Haven't you ever heard of risk management?
You can call yourself an "honorary native" of Western Washington if you start bitching whenever the high temp goes above 80 for more than two days in a row. Bonus points for suggesting that we "need some rain." :)
Yeah, but 90+ is too damned hot.

Don't have the time to answer the rest of your hoopity-hoopla, with all due respect of course.
But wait, you asserted earlier that 'you' represented an increase in global temperature.
So, where do you stand...is the planet getting hotter (and changing as a result, for whatever outcome) or not?
Do you exist, or do you not?
And how do you reconcile the dramatic moisture (drought) changes globally, irrelevant of those curious datum examples?
Are we 'all good' in terms of our energy choices?
Or does it simply not matter, in your opinion?
Should we simply continue as we have been doing, or what?
Do you have a reasoned opinion on human effect?
Or is that beneath you to consider?
Please ponder...
I'd prefer GW were a hoax. Yet I believe rideit makes a solid point.
And what if it were a hoax. Should I feel swindled if I choose to have a smaller impact? So I turn off the ligts when I am not using them. Not a bad deal to hedge a bet. Otherwise, we may be buying land in Greenland - if we make it to that point.
dude it's been raining pretty consitently on the east coast here for the last 6 weeks. Half the places that were in drought are now flooded.
And besides the drought here has nothing to do with global warming, Australia has always had long periods of little rain followed by short burts of heavy rain. It's just weather patterns.
screw the extremes, GW. instead, base your argument (if you have such) on the means for the last century.
i'll start you off with a couple of graphs, because they are so nice to look at:
this one is from here:
http://www.bom.gov.au/announcements/...106meant03.gif
this one is from here:
http://reports.eea.europa.eu/signals-2000/en/fig8.6.gif
and a bonus one, just because it's so shiny:
http://www.cru.uea.ac.uk/cru/data/te...ure/nhshgl.gif
and, just for the record, if you think that a lack of temperature extremes for a certain period means that there is no change in the average for that period you fail at basic statistics.
Fuck, enough with the its 20~30 above normal its gota be global warming B.S.
First off, Washington state is home to the LAST TWO SITES OF WORLD RECORD SNOWFALL.
Second, Bellingham / Western WA in general has at least 1 week of 80~100F WEATHER EVERY YEAR! it's just that some times its earlier other times later in the summer, so this whole ABOVE NORMAL BS is all relative.
Third, we are having the EXACT SAME weather pattern that we did prior to the last world record so I'm not complaning......
C'mon does it really get much better than having the world's snowiest place an hour a way, and living in a climate that has moderate temps nearly all year long???? Just ask all the fucking hippies living on thestreat here, they will tell you that A, we got the best climate for living on the streets and the best drugs to go with it ;)
All afternoon I'll be loving it in my 35' long tin can driving up and down Northwest Ave. If it's over 90 outside it'll be over 100 inside the damn bus. And management :cussing: :fuckyou: says (from their air conditioned offices) that we don't need A/C in the new fleet of buses we're getting in a couple of years.
It should be slightly cooler close to the water but out in the county it will be blazing.
Time to find a snowbank to burrow into.
You know if you drive faster the bus will be cooler ;)
Secretly hopes all busses on state street start dooing 55mph so that my speeding isnt so obvious :FIREdevil
Ohh... BTW I think that "Muzzy" has just been over indulging in the substances I referred to above when placing the bus order.
It will be a little cooler out on the islands, still warm, but at least most of the tourists have left.
And its a nice time to be sitting on Toad Lake having a cool-down beer. You guys out to come up here - its 5 or 6 degrees cooler, and the lake is a nice 66 right now.
I for one don't complain. After that long wet season I'm ready for a few days of blast furnace. Hopefully the winds will kick up and I can sail. Best thing about being sidelined for the season - I'm actually lazing this summer.
Meanwhile, in Argentina...

Gotta love the New England coast in July & August - while it pushed 100 in DC/PHI/NYC yesterday:
Portland, Maine:

Hull, Massachusetts

I Spent most of my summers in Maine to avoid the heat and humidity on Long Island, I hate hot humid weather,I Should just close the shop and go boating.
Whether you believe in global warming or not, the things that men like Al Gore are asking everyone to do are good things. Why not just do them? Recycling, energy effiecent homes, driving less, buying a hybrid car, etc.
Seriously, fuck any of you who chuck a soda can, or beer can, in the garbage. It's so fucking easy to recycle these days. Shit, in Oregon all you gotta do is set your cans on the curb or next to a wall. The bums will get them within an hour.
And if what you're saying is true, Gunder. I guess i'll be staying with you most of next winter.
Its the middle of July. It gets hot, even in the Northwest.
If you want cooler temperatures, drive to the coast!
wow rideit youre getting really touchy over this! My point was 20 - 30 degrees above normal may very well be a "normal fluctuations". Are you telling me that over the past few hundred years temperates have not normally flucuated 20-30 degrees above average? Thats ludicrous.
Now if you can convince me that this ONE temperature spike in WA is a direct effect of global warming then ill shut up....Otherwise youre wrong, for the time being anyway. Im not saying i dont believe in the whole global warming thing but that is a totally normal temperature flucuations in one and area and is going to be damn near impossible to link bellinghams 90 degree temps this week to global warming. Good luck though oh and stop being so defensive, sorry if I hurt your feelings.
