The Grand Teton skied in a grand style.
I had read about that route many times, but seeing the video is intense.
RIP Coombs.

very inspiring!!!
FKNA!
Yes, thanks!
I missed it the first time too.
So cool. Seeing and hearing Doug in his elemant like that had me tearing up a little.
I certainly enjoyed watching that.
An inspiration, and even a little Tucks mention in there.
Anyone got a good place to view this video? The link doesnt seem to go anywhere
I've been looking everywhere for it the last couple of years with no luck. Would love to see it again....
The URL requested cannot be found.
There is footage of Coombs skiing the Grand towards the end of the ski movie, "The Waiting Game." Not sure if its this exact route or not, but its a movie worth owning for many other reasons than just this.
the waiting game footage is none other than the ski descent of the Otter Body snowfield...
Great flick...
Yep, its in the Waiting Game. Coombs and Workman on the OtterBody. Fucking rad!
This was just posted on TGR a few days ago...

Article includes a link to this vid...

This is great as it has more of the footage and interviews of the Coombs/Workman descent than was used in Waiting Game
Sent from my iPhone using TGR Forums
Sweet bump. Thx. Good to watch it again.
I’m gripped in my armchair.
Love the bill Briggs honor. Did the grand solo with a fused hip. On 1971 gear.
PS ran into Todd this summer and gave him some shit about the Kai jones grand ski video not even mentioning or honoring the grand master of the grand.
Briggs is legend. As is Coombs.
PPS. Yeah Briggs didn't ski the otter. But it’s all badass. A bit more exposure on the otter body. Holy fuck sticks. The ice turns before the otter body were insane. Peddle hop turns. 50 degrees? At least 45. On ice. With certain death below.
If memory serves me, he went up about to the base of the Ford or Stettner cooley with 3 other guys. They stayed down as he summited alone and then skied down.
Those kooks are less connected to the scene than you'd think. Of course they'd leave out the Godfather of steep skiing in the Tetons.
Otter body is def big exposure but honestly one could argue skiing the Stettner on Briggs' old ass ski gear would be harder to do. Maybe scarier.
Bomber clamps and short fat skis and poles that are padded to the midpoint...Gnar skiers today aren't sweating the release nearly as much, just focus on technique.
He triggered an avy; they all thought he was dead.
Then comes skiing down to them with a big smile on his face.
I have the DVD where he gives his account.
Big Red Box?

hmm I was redirected to a phishing scam dating site by that link
the you tube link was fine. major pucker factor took some great focus to pull that off
You mean ' Fall Line ', right?
This one...

And Steve Shea used to be my neighbor, still lives down the way from Kokomas...
Epic stories from him re: steep skiing with the euros.
As I recall he said the fall was staged.
I bought that way back. Trackhead was way ahead of the times on the drone stuff.
I found a short viddy with a bunch of familiars in it but the Mammoth mtn. productions by the same title seem to drown out any other listings.
Can anyone post it up here?
Trackhead, do you have a way for us to see your footage/viddy?
Did/do you know Steve by chance? He's a hella piece of work fosho. Mellow but sooooo intense.
I never had the opportunity to meet him, but if I remember correctly I tried to, or maybe considered interviewing him for a historical perspective.
I have the video on DVD. Gotta remember, it was made on zero budget in 2006 and I basically had no videography/audio skills at the time. It was made out of passion to tell the story of the Tetons, had very low production quality, and was just a work of obsession. We put in thousands of hours and made zero dollars, but had a blast. I will probably put it on Youtube just for historical reasons because so many of the "old timers", even before Briggs, had amazing stories that I think need to be maintained. I'll post a link when I do that.
Please do and if there's an available copy of the dvd I'd buy one.
I know most of those peeps in the short that I saw.
Huidekooper, both Newcombs, Bill B., Doug C., Sava Malachowski, Betty Woolsey, Frank Ewing;
Koch tumbling Teewinot or Moran? Hans and Newc skiing the sick cooley on the north face of the Grand or Buck? With Halsey Hewson on pins iirc.
Piton productions?
Yes to all.
Never interviewed Hans J, did chat with Newcomb (Jr/Sr), Huidekooper, others. Lots of historical footage donated from archives probably now lost forever.
Such an awesome history there. It is, in some ways, the heart of alpinism in our country. Not to discount Fred Beckey and all the others who were early pioneers in other ranges.
That vid was/is awesome.
Shout out to Bob Carmichael & Greg Lowe for the short film. .
We used'ta bring that to the vill cen cafe, on VHS, when they'd play "pre-trgz" Bennie & etal stuff all day & say here, "pop this shit in..." Got some attention, as hardly nobody knew what "Extreme Skiing" term meant then.
I called Bob & bought a copy years ago to buy a copy, to preserve, & now I can't find it...
Note: all the binder changes, esp around the 5 min mark.. soli 444s, 555s 727s... & I could swear there mighta been some Spademans along to he line...
Kudos to Shea!
The music is GONG, after Daevid Allen left, but that's GONG for sure.
