Put it into one of those holders, and just kind of flash it to the attendants. Maker sure you wearing goggles, helmet/hat, to hide your true identity. Not saying its right, but I have seen people do it.

At this point in the season, I would say no they don't check the picture. Some mountains are more anal about it then others. As long as you are of the same sex and have hat/helmet/goggles you should be fine, in other words be smart about it. With that said liftie's at most resorts get bonus's now for busting folks-I witnessed a dude get caught at snowmass a few weeks ago. Later found out he was arrested and smacked with a $500 fine-first time I've ever heard of it going that far though.
I've had to do it before. Left mine at home, or otherwise.
Arm band pass holder, stuff snow in there where the pic is, but not too much, so it doesn't read. You can also get it foggy by breathing into the pass holder, and letting it freeze up a bit. Helmet, gogs, jacket up over mouth. Never been a problem. I wouldn't recommend a whole season, though. Other friends have not been so lucky with that plan.
W/B ticket validators get paid $75 for every fraud pass they bust. It's $500 to get the pass back, too. I'm sure they're not the only resort being that heavy handed.
If its an Altabird pass, look out for the Walmart greeters one ridgeline to the east! They will BRING YOU DOWN TO CHINATOWN.

at my home mountain in australia (mt buller) we have a fake pass called "the dud" which is given out to someone different for free every day of the season. the lifties get $25 if they find it. the skiier is also given a second free pass for free that they then can ski the rest of the day with if the dud is found.
On the mountain I ski at they call Mr pole-eece man and record your details for future reference. The golden rule is never shit in your own nest.
I also think that if it's a cool mountain with good people and a good vibe; respect is paramount.

Over in the other canyon I hear they're paying sherriffs to stand in line and check on people with the scanner. The liftee's hold a electronic scanner that when you scan your pass thru the turnstile a 3x3 of your mug blows up on the screen. Then they slap you with a fed. offence, probably felony, of grand larceny. No this isn't Brighton.

I was in line for the Excelerator at W/B a week ago behind a chick who was checked. They made her remove her goggles, smile, turn her head and verified that it was her by looking at her for a few seconds. Seems to me like they are indeed pretty strict. Had a friend get busted at Mt. Rose using another buddies pass one day. They called the Washoe Cty. Sheriff's who came up and wrote him a ticket which he had to pay on the spot, Mt. Rose also required him to buy a day ticket and make him tear it up and they kept the season pass. The real owner was not given it back and he had to pay $50 to get it reissued. "Ahem", when I was in college 17 years ago (damn I'm getting old) and dirt-poor I forged a XYZ (large ski area) pass on one of the first color copiers. Covered up the real pass owner's name, pass number and face (in case I got caught), then added my photo (shot with a XYZ background I made using construction paper and lots of labor making XYZ logos), added the name "Johnny Walker" and a bogus pass number. Still have it, lol.
It stood up to the one and only pass check that year (managed to stay calm), think I got in about 85 days. Of course, then I got busted by the state police making fake driver's licenses (so me and my buddies could buy beer) and left my petty criminal days behind me forever. A suspended sentance was enough to scare me straight.
Worse, I heard it was Dick Cheany's office; you got the battery on the sopt and your balls got sent to Guantanamo to spend some time wearing orange.Quote:

The part about the scanner is correct and it's a theft of services misdomeaner charge with a lifetime ban for you and the persons whos pass your scamming on. Good riddance IMO. Lotsa years ago I got about 50 days on a pass that a guy left laying on a coffee table when he left town. Everything was great until closing day and I had to boogie out the back door of the gondi building. I found out later that the liftie was about to set a record for the most busts in a season. Even back then (1988) they were getting a $50 bonus for each pass they got and the theft of services charge would've sucked. In hindsight I say don't do it but I try not to be a hypocrite.

There are undercover cops at The Canyons asking people if they want to puff down. Their passes don't have pics on them, they are transferable between the different guys, so if you look reaaallllll close you might figure it out. I wonder if they wear a hat like skifishbum's dog and say 'brahhhhhh' a lot to fit in?
One of the best stories I've heard was at bridger, a friend used a womans pass for awhile before getting busted. I never saw him up there but there's a funny pic of him hiking the Ridge with a wig, lipstick, and his jacket unzipped.....

Be careful. I've seen a few people get pulled out of line in Mammoth over the last couple of years. For the most part they don't check very carefully, my picture is terrible and very vague, but you don't want to get busted. I used to get my buddies asking me to borrow my pass whenever I didn't go up. I never let them because I don't want to get kicked out of the pass program at Mammoth. I have a friend who got busted about 4-5 years ago at squaw with a forged season pass. They were going to throw the book at him, but then didn't get him that bad, although I don't remember what the exact penalty was. I think one of the people he got busted with had some connections. I think they usually don't throw the book at you to the extent that they could, but you never know. I could care less about most big resorts, squaw treated me like shit when I worked there. I was an instructor, but if I was a liftie I wouldn't have busted anybody because I had no loyalty to the resort. I think most lifties feel that way, but you don't want to run into the one who doesn't. What I would fear most would not be the fine, but the record, and possibly being permanently banned from the mountain.
That is absolutely inexcusable, unless law enforcement in that area has an incredible surplus of money and time, which I highly doubt.Quote:
