My hard drive crashed and I was going through what they could save and found this pic from last summer (sorry for the small file, but it’s the only pic I got left.)
These buddies of mine borrowed MY raft to go fishing when I was stuck at work……….can you compete?
Caught on the Blue River, CO mid June 2005. Taped at 29 ¾” and bottomed out a 15 pound scale.:eek: Could be a new CO record.

Just a little more FYI on this fish, it was caught on the Jones ranch (as in Dow/Jones) when the flows are high enough to float the river. CO water laws are really lame!
Um, yeah, let me tell you about my trout fishing experience. My family and I went backpacking in the Chugach for a little over a week.... we brought food of course, but we were hoping to catch a bit of trout at the various lakes we camped near. After our second day of unsuccessful bites on our rods we realized that we SUCK at fishing. My uncle managed to catch a whopping 7 inch trout which, when split between 4 people, is not much of a meal :) Good thing we brought back up supplies!
That's not a trout, Pow4Brains, that's a fucking WHALE! Goddamn what a fish. I would have creamed my shorts. How long did it take them to bring it in? I'm assuming they were flyfishing - what kind of tippet... 0X? I'd need a wire to keep that thing on!

There are some Kamloops nearby that a guy had in his pond that got washed out during high water some time ago that are living wild in the river, HUGE.
How did steelies get to CO? Planted?
This was about 6 years ago... anyways i was fishing in Cotopaxi near Texas creek (anyone ever heard of Children of the Sun ranch?) and i found a new stream (i go fishing in CO every year) and i found out later it was a huge runoff of this ranchers lake (lake trout in a stream mean anything?)... anyways im fishing for little brookies and i drag over a maybe square foot section of deep water on the whole bend of this stream and this sucker hits, instantly snaps the line and proceeds to land on some shallow rocks near the bank.
being the redneck i am i ran to him and started just scooping him to the shore praying Lord please dont let me lose this and got lucky and had him stuffed a week later
props to Flaggstaff Taxidermy for even though he lost alot of his color, they re-did him and even recirlced his little butthole ring with pink (see pic #3)

wow! cool fish. i guess i still don't understand what he is though. you said that this strain was once anadromous? does that mean they were stocked in the rivers there? or are they native? i don't know much about CO fish. either way he's super cool. i wonder how old he/she is.
biggest trout? i've never broken 30 inches but have hooked my share of them around Alaska. I've landed some really special rainbows that were a hair over 29 inches but they weren't as fat as that monster. I've seen my share of thirties and have had clients hook fish that big but landing one of those beasties still eludes me. maybe someday. anyway, thanks for the picture!

I got a 24 inch Rainbow, I also have caught a 32 inch steelhead but that doesn't count

I live about a mile away from the blue, where that fish was caught. They feed off mises shrimp that come out of the dam. I drive over the river everyday, and I've NEVER crossed it without seeing fishermen. It's nuts. BTW folks, trout are native, and steelies are simply ocean rainbows that swim into freshwater.

Holy shit - I've fished with a lineup of prolly 30 people at the mouth of the Green - right by the Green River Inn or something. Biggest fish I ever saw caught there was maybe 12 inches. This whale must've gotten bored feeding in the Lake and gone to see what's up. Did the fishermen kill it?
Brett: The Sewage Treatment Plant next to the VA Mechanic's Garage had a couple of really great holes behind it. Same thing down by where I lived for a while - Intermountain by the bridge. I used to fish up by the plant while waiting for my GF to get off work at the Video Rental place that was across Frontage Road from it.

Here's a photo of me releasing the largest brown trout ever... IGFA didn't qualify it as a world record because my leader was too long. Caught on a shimano tiagra 130 w/ 130lb test and 500 lb mono leader, using a large nightcrawler for bait.
My first girlfriend had a tongue like a trout.
re: steelhead. Lots o steelhead fishing on Lake Superior. Other than the girlfriend, my largest was a lake trout up in Ontario, about 8 lbs.
Biggest [B]TODAY[B] would be a 22" cotthroat on a #18 GRHE.

8lb 8 oz. Rainbow. Can't remember the length but it was a football. Then several steelies in the 5-15lb range and then the occasional 20lb. Gotta love those Clearwater B run steelies.
I've got a Golden Hammerhead on my office wall that I caught off Miami Beach in 1980 when I was 11. It's a beauty. I didn't do shit except reel it in while the rod was attached to the rod holder.
My mom paid the captain $100 for my brother and I for a half day deep sea excursion. The swells were absolutely enormous and the only thing my older brother caught was a massive sunburn(as did I). He got seasick(what a pussy), started puking, and gave up the shark chair 20 minutes before we were going to turn around and head back to the marina and just after that it hit. When it landed it had the hook in its eye. Woa! I felt really bad for the shark but was stoked at the same time.
I'm psyched my mom decided to mount it at a cost of $486. It showed up at our house in Michigan in a big crate.
Regarding trout, the only one I've caught was my 12" trouser trout as it was released from my pants. Bwa!
