Moment Skis...some difficult keywords to work with

I remember seeing something about Moment Skis here at one point, and thought they looked cool, but forgot about them until a few weeks ago at Mammoth when I ran into a girl sporting a pair of the distinct square-tipped boards. I asked her about them and she said that her brother, a guy named Casey, makes them in Reno. She even told me they have a website at momentskis.com. Well, if they do, someone is squatting on that domain cuz nothing ski related comes up.

I've searched a few different ways as due diligence to avoid jong status, but I'm just gonna ask. What's the dilly with Moment Skis and how does one get more info?

Are you talking about MoVement? If so, there are many details over at TelemarkTips.com - lots of reviews too.

no, dude's talking about MOMENT. Out of Reno, from the Slouch snowboards factory. Look in the KW comp threads and some www.coreshot.com articles for pics of maggot zIPPY rocking the 130mm+ waisted Commies.

Nope the website is not up and running yet, I believe they are still working on that. As far as the skis go, zippy on here rides for them/helps design/make them. They have 3 shapes I believe right now, the communist are the big boys, 135 at the waist and weigh half as much as my nordica blowers.......
really fun to ride too!

edit: the commies also have some carbon fiber in them which make them pretty stiff but without the added weight.......... Start pming the shit out of zippy telling him to get the website up :D

Basom: I have off thursday, I work weds night..... maybe drive up late around 10:30 or so late. I would be down for wrecking myself all day thursday, I'm sure i could bring 1 or 2 people with me. Perhaps the zippy himself would come......

seems like the skis will float super well...

only concern I guess would be one similar to skiing gotamas with the super square tail. It is just kind of ackward.

I didn't even notice that it was sqaure due to the full twin, they all have a natrual side cut until the very tip (wich is no where near the snow)

Next time you are on windblown snow with your twin tips, look and see what shape your skis make in the snow.....

Not sure you'd even want to, but it may be difficult to put skins on those, short of drilling a hole in the front. Especially if the ski is so light it could be a good BC ski. Seems silly to exclude a fairly large potential market by making the tips square but I guess thats what makes them stand out.

Widest possible shovel for a given length of ski = greatest lift at tip in deepitude.

The theory makes sense to me.

I'm assuming there's no wierd tip drag thing going on when leaned over hard though?

Zip...what are you charging for those things? Do I need to just call you?

if anyone is still reading this, the skis are going for 450 this year and a little more next, depending if you buy them in a shop or not the price may fluctuate. And it is soooo crazy how the square tips, when you get going really fast, EXPLODE!!! :mad: So dont go too fast in the pow or else. And the you can actually skin with the tips and i am guessing that skins will be getting fatter as the skis do, it's evolution.

Ran into a Moment skier today at Squaw. I asked if he was a maggot and he calmly said "No." He must know what one is though, otherwise you'd think he would have been somewhat insulted. That is all.
