Yes, yes and yes. Most ski shops have discount tickets available, I know the Canyon Sports locations have good prices, here's a link so you can check them out;
Canyon Sports Tickets
you can also get discounts at
http://www.skinsee.com/
they have discounts to all the resorts. good luck
and remember Solitude Sucks ;)
You can get Alta tixs at the Patagucci Outlet for $39 cash. Granted, it's only a buck cheaper, but for several days that could add up to a plate of nachos. If you're into that sort of thing.
Much thanks!
And yes, I am into extra nachos....
Any idea on something nice to do -romantic couple style- in downtown SLC? We're at the marriott right by the tabernacle downtown. Any fun bars?
Romantic? Maybe MacDaddy can give you the super-secret insider tour of the Salt Palace.... :D
Yes, there's tons of stuff right there, a few of us Utards live right near where you're staying, there are a bunch of good bars and restaurants here in downtown. Just stay away from Cheers to You...
Check out utah.citysearch.com for more info, look in zip code 84101, that's downtown SLC and you'll get a sense of what is here. FYI if you like sushi, there's a surprisingly good bunch of restaurants here, and my favorite upscale italian place (Cucina Toscana) is just a short walk from your hotel too...
PM me or post here if you want any more info...
Yea right next door to Marriott and right across the street from where I work, the Dead Goat Saloon , just changed over to a caberet...I havent been there yet, but that is sure fire way to get the love juices flowing :D
Shaggy's cool, hip bar lots of blonde hotties and blonde boys with spiked "porcupined" hair, Utarded style
Banana Joes around the corner from Shaggy's can be gansta style
Cheers to You great neighborhood bar you might even find Woodsy there
Really? Romantic? dude? for dinner try the Melting Pot , cool place. You get to fry your own meat and chocolate and stuff, fondue style...chicks dig it.
Bambara is at the Monaco Hotel nice restaurant good food
The Metropolitan , classic high dollar restaurant
all with in walking distance ask your concierge
Hey thanks man!
Yea, just looking for something to do in the evenings. Nothing super expensive but just some drinks, etc.
Tried the city search- Cabana Club? Red Door? Red Rock Brewery? Club baci?
I feel I should go to American Bush on the name alone...do Utah strippers show skin, or is it carthart jumpsuits only? ;)
Again, all help is greatly appreciated.
edit- thanks mac, didn't see your response until now.
yea no prob, any one from Denver visiting UT is a potential friend of mine!!
look us up when you arrive maybe we can show you around the mountain.
will do!
I'll post again when we're on the road/in SLC...be nice to see some people!
You may not believe it, but American Bush is a full nude strip bar, the catch being that it's not a bar - well, not a liquor bar.
In Utah, it's pasties and liquor, or full nude and juice. At least that's what I've heard....
PS: The Red Door is my favorite place, a cool little spot; I'm in there at least 2 nights a week (granted, it's attached to my condo building), but you should at least check it out...
Red Door, check!
Full nude, check!
I hate that way of doing it though. It's just not the same lookin at nekkid chicks, sippin on an apple juice.
food recommendation : the red iguana (on north temple) - looks dumpy but the food is very good.....just my $.02...
The Red Iguana rocks! Just make sure you're always in front of the other bros who ate there with you when you're in the lift line the next day.Quote:

Oh yah... the Smith's grocery stores sell discount lift tickets to Alta and the Bird. I can't remember if they have discounts for other areas.
there was a good discount for the bird at smith's last year....most ski shops offer it too....
only a buck or two off the alta price....but it still looks pretty good compared to deer valley/vail......
Whats the name of that place where the waitresses bring big ass chunks of barbequed meat to your table and slice it off for ya? They just keep bringin it til you're stuffed. An Adkins dieters heaven. That place was pretty cool.
recommendation #2.....ichiban sushi on 400S? It's in an old church....pretty pricey, but surprisingly good food....cool sushi chefs too....
mmm...sushi....that will almost definatley get a visit post skiing.
Again, much thanks to everyone. Now I can look like ((((the mang))) and know where to go.
On a biased note;
The Red Iguana really has mediocre Mex. but for UT, it is one of the best we have....so I gues it's good relatively speaking.
Denver has way better Mex, I can compare it to much lesser version of Tacos Jalisco on Tenysson and 38th
the Ichiban is good and the ambiance is top notch, and the saki bombs are about the only way you'll catch a true buzz in UT
have you tried the "moles" at red iguana? ask for a sample plate and try them with the chips....amarillo and and pipian are my favorites......Quote:

Smiths has bird tram tickets $45
My vote goes for the red iguana aswell!!!!!
Rodizio Grill. Don't eat for several days before you go. Seriously.Quote:

I couldn't bring myself to try the snake sausage....maybe next time.....
west where?
I agree......High Pressure sucks.....cancelled trip this weekend due to forecast.....then they open baldy chutes....D'oh...
Hey AG......I've never been at alta when the baldy chutes were open.....any info appreciated.....
skied castle area for the first time on my last visit....
OK, I know the Red Iguana has an outstanding reputation with all of the non-natives and some natives that have eaten there. The autographed pictures of "rockstar" skiers, movie stars, and real rockstars, enhances the experience, and helps grow their reputation.
Yes they have a very flavorful mole I agree, but two or three decent menu items doesnt make a restaurant.
Please unserstand that I'm just biased by the facts that I'm half Mexican, lived in Mexico, and mi Mama is one hell of a cook. I've also worked at various Mexi joints in CA and CO as a prep cook, line cook, busser, waiter, bartender and night manager. Those being my influences I tend to find all Mexi food in UT subpar unless I make it, and you are welcome to come visit, anytime.
Yes the Red Iguana should be tried its not bad, and mole is delicious when you are starving:D
good points all around, I only have the moles there....my point was not to go and just have a burrito.....I have a mexican mother-in-law and can relate.....nothing beats home cooked stuff.....hmmm....fresh tortillas.....Quote:

for the record, we haven't found the mex food in seattle to be that good so far......
any help on the baldy info?
To answer your question:
Evidently Baldy Chutes is only open when I'm not there or I'm injured. With the exception of once when no one would go with me because they were tired and "we'll just do it tomorrow" (wasn't open the next day, of course). DAMMIT. And it was open twice when I had wrecked knees: Once when I had just had my ACL reconstructed and was just visiting (hadn't moved here yet but spent a day sitting at GMD reading so Mr.AG could ski, and I took very distant pictures of people skiing it) and once right before I had my partial menisectomy last spring and I could barely walk and did 2 runs before deciding that I absolutely could not put off surgery anymore.
So, uh - I guess you should pick a day when I'm stuck at work and have at it.
ummm....sorry for asking......
I'm more interested in route.....and what options there are......
hike from top of wildcat or off ballroom traverse? the only info I have is from the t-shirt.......
Should have prefaced that with [rant]. Sorry. :(
You hike up from like the shack over where you'd cross into Snowbird (from Sugarloaf). And the routes that are open vary depending on snowpack.
no prob on the rant....I was supposed to be there today too.....but cancelled due to high Press weekend forecast.....may be out next weekend....
thanks for the info....how was castle yesterday/today?
I've done nothing but work all week. Good news is that I racked up about 10 extra comp hours for whenever the next storm hits... :D
Hey Yaze Bro if you really wanna ski Baldy you kinda need to be here during a dominant high pressure system.
They dont open it when it storms. I know you are risking missing out on Pow if you come out when its clear (and I admire that flexibility or commitment) but you run a better chance of getting Baldy on a sustained high pressure pattern.
good luck
I agree. Red Iguana is not my personal fav--too much sweet sauce on their stuff which I assume is their version of mole.Quote:

I like a few other places more. Sounds like Woodsy's got some places dialed, including La Frontera. However, for sushi, Ichiban is the best in Utah IMO.
Rodizios. We used to eat there a lot. The food was incredible the first couple years. Now that it's mediocre we don't go anymore.Quote:

Get that special while you can. They go back up to $48 in 3 weeks.Quote:

Too bad the quality is going down! I went there two years ago, and it was really good. I'm comin' back out end of January, and I was hoping to hit it again. I guess I'll have to sample somewhere new...Quote:

I wasn't impressed with Rodizio either.....
the fact is that I was in SF during christmas and missed the big dumps.....so I didn't want to head out there after no new and forecast calling for high Pressure.....
hopefully I'll get another shot at baldy later this year.....
how long is the hike? and what are the options...I can see the gnarly lines, but it looks like the snowbird side isn't as demanding....
thanks guys...
Yeah, but the hard-boiled quail eggs at the salad bar rock...
Desert (not to be confused with another Woodsy fav...the Deseret Lounge) Edge Brewery at Trolley Square has some of the (cough, cough) better beers in Utah.
Can we talk more about hot nekkid, blonde Utah chicks now? Thats a good subject when hungover on a Saturday morning. Dead Goats a peeler bar now?
How does Lone Star on Fort Union stack up? I'm no Mex connoisseur, but I thought their fish burrito was the shiz.
Also, we ate at a sushi joint on BCC road that was really good. The fish was really fresh and the service was excellent. Mikado I think, they also have a spot downtown.
Lone star is "cool" as far as mexi fast food goes. The burritos, tacos are way yummy! I recomend this place partly becuase its one of the few fast food mexi places that sells BEER!
