Sounds cheesy but........The 911 from a few years ago was the most beautiful car ever..........to me at least.

It looked so organic, yet so powerful.
It didn't resemble anything remotely mechanical..........to me at least.

Dammit, I thought I'd get all fancy and bust out the GTO and Muira...no comparison, IMO.

I fondled an unrestored (fuckin' cherry though) GTO at the Ferrari museum outside San Marino. Priapism is a bitch!

Edit: Under 10K. Well, of your list, Buster, I've always been a fan of the 2002. You can find some good ole American muscle for that price range (in marginal shape). The original Hemis have a look I've always liked.

Roo - Good call on the Khamsin.

A school friend's father restored cars for a living and he got a Khamsin in some convoluted car swap.

We took it to the old Ford motorsport center at Boreham airfield and my mate and I both had it going flat out down the runway - at age 16.

Buster - the GTV without a doubt and that Stradale makes me feel funny in my pants.

The Audi R8C (coupe) was built and raced before the R8R (roadster). JONG.

VAG needed to build brand cache for the launch of the new era Bently's. the sporting image had to be reclaimed via racing. Since the DB's were not ready for GT competition yet it was a simple choice to rebadge the R8 and paint it green. Even the drivers were stolen from Audi.

Having said that most of the problems with that car were aero related, and although I steered clear of carrying virtually any R8C ideas onto the ’00 prototype, I did reintroduce a number of them, mainly in the suspension, on the ’03 car when nobody was looking. Which rather tended to prove the old adage that you need to understand the root cause of a problem to deal with it satisfactorily!
There was not a great deal of carry over of design staff between R8C and subsequent Bentley projects. We were on the point of moving to 3D CAD for the ’00 car, and recruiting for that whereas quite a bit of the R8C was drawn to our schemes by contract staff in 2D. The design team was fairly stable during the rest of the Bentley program.

Of course there are few parts carried directly over, but that does not mean they reinvented the wheel. The Bently is a rebadged evolution of the Audi. To believe anything else is simply foolish. History will show that the Bentley gets lumped in as the R8's 6th LeMans victory, it will not stand alone.

Im not arguing that they arent similar. What I am arguing is that it was as much a copy and paste job as it might sound. The aerodynamics of the R8, simply by looking at the car, are drastically differnt than the EXP8. That in itself mandates a drastic difference in packaging. And infact, in this level of racing, Aerodynamic grip and not mechanical grip is paramount, therefore, suspension geometry is dictated in a large part by Aerodynamic structures and air flow. Having said all that, theres not really anything that revolutionary that hasnt been done on one car or another, so theyre basically all the same. The difference comes in how theyre integrated and interact with one another. In a large part this stagnancy is due to overbearing restrictions due to Rules which have been created to outlaw real innovation such as second chassis, dynamic aerodynamic structers, active suspension, blown wings, drivers aids such as traction control, or sucker cars. Anyway, I dont really want to get into an argument here, cause I really dont care that much about this.
