Brooks will mold to you, eventually, and then be really comfortable...
... on a road bike, and also be really heavy. Greatest touring saddle IMHO, but not otherwise.
Every saddle brand has one over $350, shit I have 2 in my parts bins.
Anyone want to buy a Fizik R3 adapative or a Fabric ALM?
Specialized wants $475 for their S-Works Power w Mirror.
The saddles Visma are using on their time trail bikes in the Tour de France are $1320. The Prologo Predator.
My new road bike came with a Selle Italia SLR Boost Superflow Kit Carbonio saddle (retail $380) that did not work for me at all, so I splurged and bought an
S-Works Romin EVO with Mirror (retail $475) and it is amazing. So much more comfortable that any other saddle I have ever used, like head and shoulders above.
I do have that Sell Italia saddle that was ridden twice if anyone is interested.
^ See, I'm not the only one with $400 saddles in their spares pile.
Yeah again that money part was just sposed to be an off haned joke, I really don't care how much money you spent, it was about the tech of a heat molded bike saddle
I feel like most serious MTBers try several hundred dollars worth of saddles until they land on something that works for them. My two-word response to the thread topic: anything 5Dev.
This thread is some serious roadie shit.
Hmm, I've never upgraded a saddle from the stock one. Seems to work for me.
Same. I’m cheap but also I’ve never been had a bike where the saddle really made me uncomfortable. Maybe it’s like Bidets, and I’m still using a Sears catalogue
I think the bike fit is more important, but it’s just another thing to fine tune, and I’m changing my bike fit as I get older, so this is changing as well.
I am way more particular on my road bike. On the road you are just sitting in the same position for long periods of time. Mountain biking you are moving around on the saddle way more, even when climbing, and then standing up a lot more often on flats and downhills.
Spending a bunch of money for a nice saddle on a road bike makes way more sense to me than 95% of the other crap that roadies throw money at.

so Visma did not pay 1320 $ for a Prologo Predator, that is the list price on the Prologo site and so Visa was given the product in hopes some euro gear junkies will buy on on their site for 1320$ I will never generate enough watts to get a free predator
so bought a WTB Silverado on FB off a buddy for 10$ cuz i know I liked the WTB I had and then I realized i was not a Silverado guy I was a speed V guy so I email WTB and they told me the speed V have always been all the same so I paid list I believe 67 $ becuz WTB did not offer to send me a speed V
butt ( pun intended ) I left that on the Bullit which is now in Tenesse
new bike has a SDG V3 proabbly specd with the SDG tellis its OK so SDG V 3 or Speed V are my go2 and phew i donot need to spend 1320 $
Hey XXXer, you don’t need any of this shit. Trial and error works well, especially for saddles, but that’s true with everything.
Well I was really just interested in the teck of a heat molded bike saddle right but people continue to talkabout god and money ?
As for trial and error Do you want to discuss how much the 2 marriages cost or is there a different thread ?
I can think of two very specific threads devoted to that.
You definitely caused me to look up the heat molding saddle thing though
During a long cycle tour in Southeast Asia, I had saddle sores from the stock saddle and bought a Brooks saddle in Kuala Lumpur. 2000ish miles later in Hong Kong, that fucking Brooks still hadn't broken in. I had numb spots on my ass for a few years after that. Still have the saddle in a closet somewhere as a memento, but it hasn't been on a bike for 25 years.
Anyone know How long a Brooks takes to break in, does oil or water speed thnigs up ?
my cobbler buddy told me to spray a leather boot with 25% alcohol & water then wear for a tight instep ?
I felt pretty comfortable on a Brooks B17 right away, and it just improved the more I rode it. It had to be set slightly nose up, weirdly, but it's comfortable to me. I wouldn't do any weird shit to a Brooks to try to make it softer - - put some Sno Seal or Brooks leather treatment on the underside and heat it in, and go ride. There are versions with cutouts, different widths, and the synthetic rubber/ fabric ones too. I haven't owned any of the ones with big coil springs.
I'm not that picky about bike seats, so long as they're not too wide or squishy. The only exception I can think of was the Fizik Tundra, which came on two different bikes. Just hard as a rock and flat, did not work for me.
"" I’m still using a Sears catalogue "" is there still a sears catalog or do you have them stock piled from th olden days ?
I sold my Yeti to a doctor at beginning of covid becuz there were none to buy even if she was making 384 K per year and she sold it to another doctor so I still see it around
