Seemed as good a time as any.
The last video I saw him in looked very sad with what seemed to be little to no quality of life.
I hope in his passing, he finally starts to get the respect he deserves.
seems there is something about some people, especially older; not making it to the new year; betty white died on 12-31. i imagine the holidays affect them.
RIP to the best ex president ever.
what a run... 100 ain't easy ta hit.
^^^ If you respect him so much then why compare him to Trump in a rip thread?
Carter tried to communicate with the American people as if they were adults with some measure of common sense and decency, so eventually he was of course branded a loser and roundly rejected.
He was an intelligent and compassionate man who walked the Christian walk.
RIP
On a happier note...

Class act
RIP
Carter was too good of a man for politics. Honest to a fault… insert “global warming” for “energy crisis”.
RIP Jimmy. You were my 1st Presidential vote.
The only descent man we had as president in my lifetime. I always defended him while others talked shit about him. RIP Jimmy, you were a good man and loved your fellow man and country
A good good man, a so so president. I wound up refinancing the mortgage I took out during his term 3 times as interest rates kept dropping, but my CD's did great. People complaining about inflation now weren't adults during the oil shock of the 70's. Glad he passed on Biden's watch so he can get the respect he deserves at the funeral.
Sadly, this pretty much says it all.
Substance vs "Style"

His sound money and fiscal discipline destroyed by the monetarists and selfish boomers
Because of Volker setting the wheels in place for years of low inflation. Unfortunately, the reckless Reagan economics caused inflation to again go above 5% for several years: 10% 10y rate in 87>87 crash, 91 recession, Bush tax increase to try and stem the tide of deficit spending inflation.
Gulf war caused oil prices to Crater which fueled the recovery and then internet fueled productivity. But then..the GFC from reckless Fed and fiscal policy.
Powell will fold too. He’s an asset pumper committed to the leech class of do nothing asset owners.
Man of light.
Did remarkable things well before getting into politics.
RIP
I’m with you if the complaint is irresponsible budgeting by the Federal government, but there has been a general downward trend in inflation since Carter:

And the dollars strength is currently at an all time high relative to other currencies:

It seems like our money is sound.
Because you had to wait all the way to Trump to get a president worse than Carter. Both are likely to hold the titles of "worst president" of their respective century (at least we hope that nobody worse than Trump shows up).
That Carter was classy and kind is a defining difference.
Carter built houses and taught sunday school
Trump was a pussy grabbing rapist and became a convicted felon
a difference in exactly what is worst ?
We could debate about whether Wilson or Hoover was worse.
Nixon's dirty tricks don't seem much worse than the shit people pulled since, even if you remove the order of magnitude worse that Trump has done. Also, we are buds with Vietnam now. The wars Carter spawned killed far more than Nixon's continuation.
I hold Carter responsible both for global warming (he killed nuclear power) and for most of the middle east shit that we've been involved with from Iran to Iraq to Syria to Yemen they all stem from his pure fucking impotence and incompetence in handling Iran. And all of that led to the American domestic oil industry we have now out of necessity.
I didn't say almost as bad as. I did say worse than. Trump is Pierce level of bad. Headed toward Buchanan level of bad. Yea you gotta go back that far to find worse... but he could still yet pull off worst of all time so far... hopefully not. There is something about the fact that Trump loves to hang of up the Jackson portrait... and I put him 3rd behind Pierce for awful 18th century presidents.
Carter was willing to accept short term pain. Politics is never kind to people who won't lie and blame others for any collateral damage.
You want to talk about lasting effects? Nixon normalized the things that have led to virtually all of our current problems: sacrificing long term strategy for short term started the unchecked rise of China, and putting party before country to justify anything that wins elections draws a direct line to the worst shit people pulled since.
Roger Stone may not have found much work with serious candidates for a while after Nixon, but he's been helping Trump since his failed bid at the 2000 Reform nomination, at least. And it's hard to talk about Carter on Iran without the Iran Contra Affair, which only seems like some light treason from a post-Nixon perspective.
Hell, Nixon gave us the doctrine that the president is above the law, which has finally led to the SCOTUS rolling back a basic check on executive power as long as an act is "official." Which would have been a great loophole at the signing of the Magna Carta.
Camp David accords alone should place him above most President's.

So good
Watched the motorcade pass by my office tower on his way to Dobbins AFB today to be taken to the US Capitol.
It's been cool hearing and reading all the stories from those here who were so proud of the only President to hail from this state.
My country clubs flag is not at half mast. Probably not a mistake…being a country club.
That’s a trade weighted chart.Quote:
