Planning to head west in June, hoping to spend 3 days driving out with stops in Warren Pa, Loudonville OH and then Lake Ridge ks (outside of topeka) based on my map-scouring of the I70 corridor on mtb project. Good idea? What am I
missing? Can add a day or maybe two.
Planning to swing down to Bentonville on the way home but no other ideas. Lmk what you recommend and thanks in advance!

If I were focused on riding over time, I would probably go North, into Canada, Down through Michigan/WI, (UP trails) Rapid City, S. Dakota, and then south, possibly hitting up Curt Gordy, Ft. Collin’s, etc.
But if ya gotta go through Ohio/Etc, then that doesn’t work.
I looked at driving that way, hitting Duluth trails and then south. Is ND worth it? Not much (that I could find) between MN and Den.

Brown County (IN) is worth a stop, it’s about [emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji637]] minutes south of [emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji639]][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]]].

I don’t know of anything in N.D,, but SD has some great stuff near Sturgis and Rapid City.

There's some great riding on the east coast portion of that trip. There's also some great riding in Colorado.
While there is riding in between, you're better off spending your riding time to the east or west, and just drive through the middle as quickly as possible.

In Ohio, I'd recommend East Rim (adjacent to I80). Vulture's knob is old school but fun (admittedly nostalgic for me though). Loudonville means Mohican I assume? It is fun as well. Horn's Hill is also great if you are into jumpy DH trails.
I still haven't worked Brown County into a trip but it's supposed to be good.
Wilson State Park in KS was a good stop to stretch the legs on my recent trip.
Potter's Pasture was wonderfully weird.
Are you camping or hoteling?
Vultures Knob may still have free camping? Located pretty much in between I80 & I70
Mostly camping, and my main goal is to make the trip relatively quickly but ride each day. Spending a few weeks in Co, have ridden there a bunch. My wife got into Hard Rock so we’ll be in the san juans for a while.
I’ll bring some ski stuff just in case.
Good call on Vulture’s Knob, I was planning on mohican but free camping sounds tempting. Thanks for all the recs!

if you're going through ohio i would try to hit horns hill, best riding i've done in the state and great community there
If you take I 70 make sure to stop at the Hickory Hut in Salina, KS. You won't be sorry. Goddamn good barbecue.
Excellent. Horn hill and Salinas right off of 70 for some food after riding outside of Topeka.

Bentonville, AR. Map it, it's not that out of the way on a VT-->CO drive (I did the same not long ago). It's so worth it.
Yes. Mohican is XC, Horn's is lappable DH. I haven't been in years but what they have now is supposed to be very good.Quote:

I've got no advice to offer here but I did a similar drive from Vermont to Jackson Hole a few summers ago and it was amazing. I stopped in WI, ND, SD and MT to ride along the way and rode some incredible trails.
Have fun, Glap, and don't rush it if you don't have to.

Neither, I took rte 90 just about the while way until I hit Wyoming. On the way back I took rte. 94 through ND and did an amazing ride north of Bismark.
If I were to do it again (which I'd like to), I would go further south like you are.
Duluth looks pretty cool to me. If I go that way I'm definitely going to stop here for a day or two of riding.

June is usually good most places below TL. I have ridden Doc Park and Westridge in mid June and thats a good test piece. Just depends on what kinda weather we have seen in the spring and winter before.

I’d say really figure out if you’re looking for more XC or more enduro/DH. A lot of the stuff west of the Appalachians and East of the Rockies is XC. And I’ve heard numerous reports from people who said they stopped along the way and wish they hadn’t. “Repetitive, machine built, uphill both ways” But that’s just heresy.
If I was back there I’d do:
1) 2 days at Horsetooth Mountain in Ft Collins with evenings at the breweries.
2) 1 day on Crosier Mtn (near Estes). Nobody rides there. Best DH trail I’ve done in CO.
3) Skip anything local to Boulder. Too much traffic. Too much multi use conflict.
4) 2 days at Angel Fire bike park. Yes …… it’s that good.

FWIW to the OP, Crosier Mtn is janky AF. Bring your big boy pants for that one. :)
As for #3... I completely disagree. The two best trail systems (IMO) have virtually zero user conflict. Left Hand OHV can get busy on weekends, but during the week it's dead. And the other one, well, it's never busy and I'm happy to see other users out there.
I am fine with xc and enduro, dh huge hit bikepark stuff isn’t my jam. As long as I get to stretch my legs after 7-8hrs of driving I’ll be good.
Headed straight to Boulder after Wilson st park to ride and stay with a buddy l for a couple days. Will have to ask Smmokan for more details on his private stashes.

Journeying from Boulder to Silverton will be way more interesting if you stay off i70. Like others have mentioned, Hwy 285 from Denver to BV/Salida, then 50 to Gunni, Montrose, Ridgeway. Or from Gunni you could go full scenic through Lake City and over Slumgullion Pass to Creede then Wolf Creek pass and hit some roadside corn along the way.
Town and mid elevation trails in Durango will be excellent in June, but yep, probably(hopefully) a little early for the high country stuff btwn Silv and Durango.
