The last month I have been riding some stupid steeep stuff, and I realize that the saddle that I have been riding forever (Terry Fly) just isn’t shaped great for getting way back behind the seat, and using the inside of my thighs to ‘surf’ in situations where you need a tiny bit of third-point contact.
What are your favorites, and why?
I've been putting a copycat Specialized Power saddle on all my bikes ever since I tried it the first time. It's on ebay called the EC90 for only $25. I've tried the real one and fake one back to back and can't notice any difference personally.
I've been using an SLR Boost - the one without the cutout. Pretty hard since it's a road saddle but that seems to work. Not totally sold on it but going with it.
I'm not overly picky about saddles, but for steep / dh stuff, I like a saddle that's a little narrower, that doesn't have a big lip at the back end, and something that doesn't have any hard plastic on the outer perimeter. The hard plastic tends to leave bruises on the inside of my knee.
Currently have an SDG bel-air on the big bike. Nothing fancy but it's comfy.

Ergon SM Enduro. I like that it's really narrow compared to other options (~132mm IIRC) which makes it really easy to push the bike forward without it smacking my legs. I have ~12cm sit bones so it happens to work from an actual fit standpoint too.
Used to run an Ergon Enduro SM saddle, but switched to Specialized Power a couple of years ago. I like it marginally better on the bike, but my ass hurts less after long rides so it must be working. I've never had a problem getting back behind any modern bike saddle, really... maybe you should take the Walmart-brand gel cover off first before switching? ;)
Anybody use Prologo? Lachlan Morton rides a 147 NAGO R4. Looks just a wee bit softer than my usual rock hard saddles, so sounds appealing.
Specialized Phenom Expert here and the other half uses the same Phenom Mimic.
Another vote for (and this is hard for me to say) the Spesh Power.
There, I said it. I endorsed a Spesh product.

If getting off the back is the issue, a longer dropper is the solution. The right saddle is just icing on the heavily dropped cake.

I’ve used Chromag’s Lynx DT exclusively for almost 15 years now. I switched from a Spec Phenom for essentially the same reason.
Second the Ergon SM Enduro.
Another Ergon SM Enduro on the enduro bike, and regular SM on the hardtail. Pretty sure all my friends are on Specialized Power variants though.

I've alway been a WTB fanboi but I recently discovered they aren't all the same and the " Speed " is wider
It’s all about not hanging up the insides of your thighs on the sides of a too wide or too hard saddle.
Only applicable in maneuvers where you could potentially use your but cheeks as brake pads to stop the tire from rotating.
But different from a DH saddle, as you do have to pedal.
A LOT.

I just prioritise pedaling comfort and being able to get the seat well out of the way with a long dropper. Also running a 210mm, it's awesome. With this setup I don't feel like seat shape makes a difference in descending for me. Running SQ Labs 611/612 active on all my bikes.

Ergon guy here, on all* of my bikes now. All in the wider M/L size, no issues getting off the back of them even with a paltry 175mm drooper on the big bike. The hardtail and gravel bike have less droop and still no issues. I think I have an SM, an SM Enduro, and even an SR in the mix at the moment.

SDG Duster saddle. Been my go to for a while now.
I think as seat tubes get steeper, stubbier saddles like the Spec Power make more and more sense due to needing to shift fore/aft less depending on incline. That said, what is the closest saddle to the Spec Power that's not Specialized, I have access to most via shop deal.
I've been an Ergon fan for years but admittedly running the Enduro Pro Ti, it may be too firm. I'm running the Med and keep meaning to ask the rep to try the Small to see if it feels better.
