I have to say that I am pretty impressed with the opening ceremonies. But, I would expect nothing less of the French. The rain is just adding to the drama. I love it.

coordinated attack on french transportation infrastructure just before opening ceremonies...

Stunningly beautiful and touching close to the opening. Magnifique!
The opening ceremony was all over the place trying to touch on everything. France has contributed to the world. Overall, it was pretty good. The Louvre’s paintings and sculptures coming alive, the metal horse galloping down the Seine, the music and dancing, lighting the balloon cauldron. Add in the rain and it was a wild production.

I really liked it. Thought using the Seine and the city as one giant stage was very unique and cool. I know the Parisians hate it, but the light show with the Eiffel Tower is so cool and the rain made it even better. Interesting to see how many non-French big athletes had a role.
Stunning visuals with the city, the rain and the balloon cauldron all with Ms Dion’s vocals. Fantastic production.

I think so. Part of why I’ve been there dozens of times.

Pound for pound there can’t be anyone stronger than male gymnasts. What these guys can do on the rings is insane.

Still get chills whenever I see a replay of the Japanese guy dismounted the rings w a broken leg. Anyone that can hold an iron cross on them is next level strong

I was thinking this morning "time trial in the rain has got to be dicey, especially with all those painted road lines", but Homer's account of that road race - Jesus! ( Even more exciting when listening at 1.5x speed! ;-) How he made it through is a miracle!
I am curious about the "nature break" he describes starting at 27:35. That's a typical thing? One rider just drains the pickle while being pushed along by a teammate? 'Finally I'm like after a minute doing 600 watts I'm like "Tyler you gotta put it away, pinch it off, lets get going!"' LoL

The cities have a lot in common. In terms of bakeries and old skool restaurants Lawrence might have Syracuse beat. Either way, both are great places. Way cheaper and more accessible than Paris. Although heroin might be cheaper in Paris right now.

France-Fiji in Rugby sevens was entertaining. The guy Antoine Dupont is ridic. During the Olympic trials I mentioned htat Ozzyman was doing the color and same dude was calling the Rugby, who is that dude and why does he sound exactly like Ozzyman? Is he Ozzyman? Enquiring minds want to know.

Yup it’s a thing.
Most times riders will do it on an easy downhill. If early in stage and nothings going on, riders may dismount en masse to pee. But if late in the race and shit’s heating up, then yes, teammate has to push

Funny, I just Google'd and found this. Posted for anyone else curious, just to elaborate on your comments...
Peeing on the bike can have other benefits, especially if temperatures dip in the mountains or the windswept French countryside. "In races that are soaking wet and freezing cold, I like to piss myself," Cavendish says. "It warms me up for a split second. You get warm and you don’t have to fuss around."

I did the train to Lyon once. I think it’s buses after that, anyway for Chamonix I think it’d be better going towards/through Geneva.

Felt terrible for the American woman who wrecked 3 times during the time trial this morning. How you don’t come away with a broken arm/kneecap from that is beyond me.

Back to the Olympics, big tennis day Monday!
The record-extending 60th Lexus ATP Head2Head clash between Djokovic and Nadal will take place second on Court Philippe-Chatrier not before 1:30 p.m. local time, following the women's singles match between top seed Iga Swiatek and Diane Parry.
Thanks to Canadian Broadcasting for the great ad-free streaming coverage.
I like to watch sports at the Olympics I would normally never watch. In that spirit, the women's team archery final was a real barn burner. What I saw of Street skateboarding was pretty disappointing, I get that the difficulty of those routines is off the charts, but if the whole reason to have the sport in the Olympics is to be telegenic, there has to be more flippy spinny stuff. Hoping for more pizzazz from the park competition.
