Ski with Sage Cattabriga-Alosa in Alaska (3/31 - 4/6)!!!

As some of you know, I'm a long-time AK heliguide based out of Valdez.

Also Malou Peterson may also be in town skiing with these crews as well.

Should be pretty darn fun with hopefully some legit AK lines going doing if conditions allow. I got a few questions on ability - this is an expert program, but you don't need to be pro level though - just a legit expert - no need to be able to do a backie off a 60 footer - but you should be comfortable skiing pow on reasonably steep slopes at the resort and be in decent ski shape.

Sage and our guide team will be doing some coaching to help with big mountain progression - and we plan to split the 3 groups into similar ability levels - so hopefully aligning stars as much as possible for some legit lines. Can't control the weather or stability - but we hope that this takes one of the limitations out of the equation.

Man, this sounds like *the* dream AK trip.

Seriously question: with less than 1 post a year in 18 years, how would we now you're a heli ski guide? I think there's another one here who posted when the GSA made his way to AK as he'd always been training for, and achieved self enlightenment. Was that you? Different account? Change your name? Wanna give me 10k? I swear I know how to ski.

Buddy of mine is a guide with this operation. I talked to him today. He said that conditions permitting they truly want to get people on legit terrain with this group. DR also said the same via PM. I can never get a full bird of rippers organized, so this seems like the best option to not get stuck skiing with pounders. I’m also hanging on to hope of an open seat in Haines. But very close to pulling the trigger on this trip. I’ve skied with Sage and the Collins brothers years ago. I just want to heli ski in AK on actual legit terrain not meadow skip. Anyone else contemplating? Looking to share rental car from Anchorage

I think there are 5 spots left, and from what I hear - one or two more thinking about it. Probably just the backend isn't right.

Yes, Sage was only recently confirmed for this - so not a lot of time of getting it out there.

@BFD - thanks for the letter of support! I've guided in the FS for a long time and absolutely love it - which is why I joined Pulseline with some old guiding friends. So, yes, we use the FS quite a bit. We were there a few days ago. It is epic terrain. And while there is epic terrain everywhere in the Chugach - the FS gets a lot more snow and is largely wind protected - so some times it really is so much better than anything else near here.

If I was looking for a personal trip - this would definitely be high on the list - which is why I posted it here.

Re: comping a seat - I suggested that yesterday - I thought it would be cool for Pulseline to comp one of the seats in this program if it happens again next year to a deserving, but cash poor skier once it fills up. Maybe through the forum somehow? Take it back old school...

On that note, it is hard to believe I've been on here almost been 20 years... crazy. Yeah - I don't post much - but I read here a lot - lots of beta, plus some laughs.

Snowing again here. Looking like another decent cycle through the weekend. Then code blue sometime next week hopefully...

A question for the Dr. in case anyone is seriously considering this (sadly, I'm not). The itinerary say "Arrive in Valdez on Saturday, March 16 - the day before your first scheduled ski day."

Presumably that's a typo and arrival should be March 30?

Sounds awesome and a good price for what is included. I would sign up for this, but would need around 6 months heads up, I don't really train for downhill alpine fitness these days. Also, after a sketchy helicopter flight out of the BC backcountry this winter, I promised the gods not to fly in a helicopter until my kids are over 18...so I would need to figure that out.

Checked out the Pulseline link, and the skill level is "legendary." So, one vote for comp'ing BFD...

I think you mean two GoPros on top of the helmet with a Contour action-cam on the side. And then the ability to mount a rear facing go pro on one of your ski tips.
