6% seems like a lot but then I've never weighed my skis or even own a scale that could weigh them that accurately. For all I know my skis are mismatched by more than 80 gms. If your gf can tell the difference skiing them you could have the shop grind 80gms off the heavier ski--like if you need to replace one tire on an AWD car.. Hopefully there would be some base left. But it's more important that her skis match her boots and jacket color, pants too unless they're a neutral color.
Tell her to keep the heavier of the two skis downhill at all times and she should be fine. Seriously though, mount them and ski them. She probably won't know the difference.
I remember somebody posted that their Armada Magic Js got 250grams difference from each other. I'd say that is really weird. 80 grams is not that much. She can put the heavier one on the weaker leg and get it fit
I had a pair of skis that mismatched in weight by about the same amount but more concerning was that they had a mismatch in camber height too. I was worried about it all fall until I skied them and realized I couldn't tell the difference. I've also realized that my own legs are very asymetric in terms of strength, weight, flexibility, etc and I already have a favorite way to turn regardless of a slight mismatch in skis.
Even though most skis come out of the press in pairs, the two that are made together are seldom sold as a pair. They match based on flex, not weight. 80 grams differential is quite a bit, (40-50 grams difference is not uncommon) but I doubt you'll notice the difference on snow.Quote:

slide a pencil down towards the ends and note where it stops
Swap the skis and do it again to see how close the point where the pencil stops is to the first time
a trick to show the symmetry of edges, he tells me sometimes it would be very different

My Lotus 138's are 80g different, couldn't tell you which one is which. I also can edge a lot harder with right leg, even though it has a replacement ACL. Lots of variability in the overall system.
+/- 50g is industry standard, so 80g difference is pretty normal (see blisterreview.com). That said, 80g difference on a 1300g ski is a bit different than a 2200g ski. Still, I wouldn't worry about it.

just weighed some new skis and there is a 90g difference between the two. when picking them up individually I can tell which one is heavier..
my previous largest disparity in weight before this was 45g and I couldn't tell.. but getting closer to 100g I feel like you might be able to tell?
but sounds like on snow shouldn't feel much of a difference. ill put the heavier of the two bindings on the lighter ski to even things out haha :smile:
Weigh each of your legs and put the heavier ski on the lighter leg.

Drill a bunch of holes in the tip of the heavier one like the old Rossis. If you like rooster tales of snow drill a big hole in the tail too. Problem solved and now strangers will want to talk to you.
Tell GF she needs to lose 80 grams off one side. This should balance the ski weight. As a side effect it is likely to free up some of your disposable income and leisure time.Quote:
