I know it’s popular to say that since that movie came out but no one ever really said that prior to the Big Lebowski. They probably suffer from over saturation and that might be part of the sentiment. Mostly it’s just people trying to sound cool. There's surely some truth to herd mentality. But have you ever considered that one of the reasons that joke landed so well is because there are a LOT of people (me among them) who found the Eagles pretty annoying.
