5 decades of banging his rally drum from the top of the bleachers. Hell of a run. Even got a bronze statue of his drum on the bleachers in the Tribe’s heritage park; pretty cool.
Irul are yo supporting the Astros or the Phillies these days?
They sucked last year too
I can't remember last year.

I don’t foresee enjoying this season.
MLB continues to screw its fans who just want to watch the damned games.
MLB Network announced today that YoutubeTV abruptly dropped it today. Ok, no big deal if you don't use YTTV, especially if you have Hulu+ or God forbid, a dish service.
Then this afternoon I hear that Sinclair, the guys who bought Bally Sports (nee Fox Sports regional networks), may have to declare bankruptcy because apparently they don't have the money to pay the pro franchises for the broadcast rights they bought.
They also bought Bally Sports without having a way to deliver the product to viewers like agreements with streaming and dish services or an app which I'm told is pretty important if you're in the TV business.
So, that means potentially less money for teams, unclear path forward for actually watching these teams and for fans of teams that don't own their own network like YES, then another year of hoping you can piece together finding the games between a single-team mlb subscription, Apple+ broadcasts, actual over the air and God knows what else.

If you think your small(er) market team was cheap before, just wait and see what happens when you take away their cut of the TV money.
And MLB TV has partnered with TikTok to help grow its younger fan base
Broadcasts will be tape-delayed 15 minutes for Youth Engagement Edits.
FFS, but God forbid having more day games when kids can come or starting night games/playoffs earlier so kids can watch.
And fuck irul for starting the mlb thread 2 years in a row even though the Yankees have not won a world series in 12+ years.
let’s hand all of the kids data to china right after this ftx scandal! go mlb!
10:10pm est first pitch on Opening Day for my Guardos.
For once I’d like MLB to figure out how to schedule Opening fucking Day. It’s not hard. It’s still snowing in the Great Lakes in April so send those teams to Florida, Texas and Georgia. Arizona too maybe.
Nah, let’s send you guys out west for a 7:10 local pitch, that should help with getting more eyeballs on the product like we’re always bitching about. Ffs.
That aside, I do like the matchup of two young, good teams.
Anyone else getting excited for the WBC? I’ve never paid all that much attention in the past, but am excited this year. I May need to shoot over to Phoenix for the USA Mexico game.
Puerto Rico vs Dominican Republic may be the game of the tournament though. So many old angry white dudes yelling about how much fun the players are having.
Haha. It hasn’t been on my radar but I am going try and watch some. Is it steaming anywhere?

i should add that the sox come off as a real classy bunch too. and the dodgers. unreal.
MLB announced today that the runner on second to start every extra inning rule is permanent and will be the law of the land for baseball going forward.
Sunday morning softball continues.
I guess we should be happy that seven inning doubleheaders weren’t also announced as a permanent fixture, and that the ban on the shift is here to stay because people can’t be bothered to hit the ball to the opposite field above high school ball.
any thoughts on Yu? fangraphs hates it, but it’s a big discount from other aces. i like the way he pitches, hope it works out and the stats are wrong. three good years and the money is kind of even
The Sux lose Michael Wacha to the Padres. Was their best starter last year.
that’s going to be a huge loss while trying to fight baltimore off from last place.
shame
MLB to "emphasize enforcement of balk rule" this year.
Curious to see how many ejections this leads to.

Hold off on signing up for the mlb package if your team is broadcast on one of the many Bally Sports networks (formerly Fox Sports Regional Networks). Diamond, the division of Sinclair that owns the rights to broadcast these games (mlb, nba, nhl, etc.) has defaulted under its debt facility and the NHL is convening a board of governors meeting right now, presumably to figure out where they're going to show their games if Diamond declares bankruptcy in the next day or so.
MLB will have to figure out the same thing for these teams in short order, which means if you're like me, that means trying to figure out, again (Forrest Gump voice), where the fuck to find your team on the broadcast dial on any given night.
The entire sports broadcasting landscape is so fucked, but MLB and NHL might be the worst of all of them.
I get that with multiple games a week on all different days they can't have a model like the NFL does, but wow are they just shooting themselves in the foot right now.
Why wouldn't a network want to stream games and then just show the same commercials to more people? That would have to bring in more ad revenue than whatever subset of the nation subscribes to Bally Sports New Mexico.
Don’t worry, Manfred has a plan that he thinks will include cable (the future!) and MLB’s own streaming platform.
Oh, good to hear Rob.

Manfred sucks, blackouts suck, regional sports networks suck, and cable sucks. But the MLB package and a VPN solves 3 of the 4.
From my understanding if there is no Bally Sports crew being paid to do the game that would be otherwise on that network, they won’t just automatically become employees of MLB and just do the games on their streaming platform. From what I’ve heard it will be kind of like Covid games with two guys in a tv booth somewhere calling the game as they watch it on TV.
That’s just great for the sport.
i am stoked for the rule changes and more gambling ads
