K2 Reckoner 102 112 122 Thread

Starting a thread for the K2 Reckoner line...102s, 112s and 122s.

These arrived today from Corbett’s. $449CDN was too good a deal to pass up for new 2021 K2 Reckoner 112’s. This will be my playful, maneuverable, versatile inbounds ski......for a few days after a dump. Will complement my 180cm R11s. Really glad I got the the Geoff McFetridge custom graphic too. Looks more sweet in person....and these have a good feel....the tip shape, early rise, flex, camber....these are gonna slarve/slash!

Rec mount is -5.5cm .... Got some new black STH 16’s for them too.

He did, his Catamaran thread spawned this one. I think I got the last 184 from Corbett's and he got the last 177. They look good in pictures, but great in person. I think Evo and a few others may still have some in stock.

Re lengths.....like the K2 Catamarans/Marksmans I've owned, the K2 Reckoners measure a bit longer in stated length relative to other brands. ie the 177cm K2 Reckoner 112 measures pretty close in length to my “180cm” Elan Ripstick (which is really a 178cm) and is pretty close to my 179cm Enforcer Free 104, and my 180cm Rustler 11s. So in my mind it’s more like a 179cm Reckoner? Which for me at 5’7” (170cm) and 165 lbs is perfect.

SirVic is making me jealous with the full 3-pair set.

Yeah they measure much like ON3P and are every bit as much as their stated length. I have a feeling I'll also be looking at the 122 for deep days, but I'm interested to see how the 112 fares in deeper pow first. I've noticed Karl pretty much exclusively skis the 112 unless it's incredibly deep untouched (but I'm also nowhere near the skier he is)

To a degree yes. The 122 (for me) has some limitations when it gets cut up or variable. There are a handful of skiers at my hill that happen to be better than me and actually prefer the 122 even in shit fuck conditions however I can't ski full throttle when it gets really variable (alpental variable can be gnarly) .the 112 fits that bill nicely it doesn't bat an eye at shit snow . Hope that answers your question

I noticed that some of the NWAC guys were touring on the 102 this season, which makes sense since its a sub-2000g ski.
Anyone on here touring on these things?

I'll most likely be buying a pair shortly, and trying to figure out which binders to throw on there; pivots or tectons.

See next year’s Reckoner top sheets....bit of a change from this years “clean” classic look...which I prefer.

122 is more dd range,so it would need to handle variable. I have fat skis for pow. I'm not quite as burly as you, but not small.
Alpental looks pretty badass! I think I would get along well w/ that place.

How does the 112 compare to a Wildcat 108 for instance?

I'm also real curious about the idea of stiffness and weight when it comes to skiing through variable. The WC108 are much stiffer than this (fondled both), but they weigh about the same.

Showcases some of its nimbleness and versatility of turn shapes in changing conditions. Gotta say my legs were burning at the bottom for sure .

The mushroom’s are actually the 102. Its the best out of the three imo. Not sure what they were thinking with the horse graphic.

I plan on getting the 102 for skiing with my 9 year old niece next season. 6’ 225 lbs hoping the 184 will hold up.

I'd agree with the 112 over the 122 for almost all conditions. Was not a huge fan of the 122 and am a little unsure of its place in the line. Previously, the Catamaran was a unique, really fun pow ski. It wasn't really versatile, but there also wasn't much else on the market that felt like it. The 122 feels, to me, like more of a return to the fat, heavy, floppy K2 pow skis of old. Which, like, plenty of people loved the Petitor, but also there are plenty of Petitor-like skis on the market that are better than the 122 now. I felt like the 122 was soft enough that it's hard to keep a handle on going fast in variable snow, and didn't even feel that great at higher speeds in pow, but not soft enough that it's a super fun goof around ski like the Hellbent was. Maybe that changes when you bump up to the 190+ 122? But that's an even heavier ski, and the 184 already felt a bit sluggish to me in tight terrain.

112 is phenomenal, could make it my DD in a heartbeat, and wouldn't mind touring on it either. I wish the 122 existed but they'd made like a 1800 g Catamaran or something as well. That ski was really cool, I'll miss it.

Oops ya now that I look at that pic again the Mushroom ski looks narrower.

Glad to hear the 112 is phenomenal! I had previously bought some 2020 K2 Catamarans in March for $350CDN. But then saw the 2021 K2 Reckoner 112s at Corbetts for $450CDN, so I sold the Cats for what I paid. The Catamarans would have been really fun, on deep days, but less versatile. And I do have other good (more versatile) inbound pow skis..... Dynastar Protos and Rustler 11s.

I think the 112 will get lots more use next year (vs Catamarans) ....I’m spending way more time on 104mm-112mm skis than 120mm (used to ski 122mm Faction Candides every day). Probably its cause as Baker was not available to me this past sesaon, and at Whistler, with the much more varied conditions, the 112mm will be better/useful/more versatile.

Still contemplating whether I should add a 102....$419CDN is taunting me.

I wasn’t expecting to see Geoff McFetridge designed skis ever, and I’m kinda blown away to learn he is a skier and on top of that a tele skier. He didn’t lose his Canadian roots moving to LA I guess?

I don’t think this ski is for me so I’m going to have to buy a K2 shirt he made instead.

If anyone beats this ski to shit and wants to sell for cheap down the line, PM me I’ll buy it.

My sidecountry quiver used to be
a pair of 2019 R11s with Shifts. I sold those R11s and got 2021 Rustler 11s with Pivot 15s. R11s with Pivots are a great inbounds set up.

Considering putting Fritschi Tectons or Shifts or CAST on the Reckoners 112s?

Would be a pretty fun 50/50 sidecountry setup?

Leaning Shift or CAST as I could ski my alpine boots.

Was weighing skis today.

FYI the weight for the 2021 177cm K2 Reckoner 112 was 1,915gm and 1,938gm.

So approx ~1,925gm per ski.

I measure with a flexible tape laying flat “along the entire base” …was just under 179cm.

Haven’t decided whether to put STHs or CAST/Pivot on my Reckoners.

Anyone skied both the 184 and 191 of the 112, SVS gave me his thiughts, I’ll keep them quiet for now to avoid bias - these are gonna replace a 189 automatic 109 as my fun, whatever skis when I’m trying to give the legs a break. The 189 automatics almost certainly measure/ski short and K2 has always measured long, but a little concerned about drop from 189 to 184, especially because the reckoner had a more forward mount (-5.5 vs I think the automatic is around -8 ish)….it would be in quiver with a 190 big powder stick, 184 mantra 102, 186 AB bodacious, and 188 dynafit beast (touring setup)….

I haven't skied my 184 yet, but it's definitely on the lighter side and will have more tail rocker than the automatic (possibly more up front as well). I had automatics in a 182 and just holding these they don't feel like they'll be any more cumbersome. With that said, the ski essentials main reviewer seemed to really like the 112 when he tested the 184 length and he's about my size, but then ended up buying the 177 as a fun ski to mess around on lighter days and in tight trees.

You can see that my 2021 Geoff McFetridge “177cm” K2 Reckoner 112s measure pretty close to my 180cm Ripstick 96 Black Editions (really a 178.5cm), my 179cm Nordica E104s (a true 179cm), and are slightly shorter than my 180cm Rustler 11s (a true 180cm).

Recommended mount on the Reckoners is -5.5cm… though I’m thinking of going back a cm. The Blister guys tried them back -1cm (-6.5) to -2cm (-7.5) and it still felt good.

My binding plan for the Reckoner 112s keeps changing .....Pivot/CAST or STH? I have bit of time until the CAST is shipping. I can see these being such a fun everyday ski that I will want to use them inbounds a lot….which has me leaning STH.

What’s interesting to me in this pic is how similar in size the E104 (135-104-124) looks vs the Reckoner 112 (136-112-127) and the Rustler 11 (140-112-132). I skied many days on the E104 last season, in lieu of the R11 and now I know why. Didn’t realize they were so similar. Probably only need two of the three skis (E104, Reckoner, R11).
