I tend to have a lot of them. Here's one:
Has Xtratuf gone to shit? I thought I read something about that. Saw a pair in the store today but then I started thinking I read that they suck now. Do they?

My wife had a pair of American made Xtratufs last 2+ seasons of gillnetting but killed a set of Chinese made in less than 1 season. This was in 2015 so perhaps they suck less now?
They suck now. Former great brand revived by chicoms and trading on old name. No different better or worse than lacrosse, muddy, boggs etc.

What's the burliest wool pants?
I've had the same pair of woolrich hunting pants since 1982.
They pockets have worn out and my girth is stretching their capability.
I'd buy another pair, but I can't find a contemporary retailer.
What else?
These are heavier, 28 oz:

Do you guys have any experience with that stuff or are you thinking I can't googles?
I really want a pair of the ghost wear big bill pants. The plaid is tits.
You should get the suspender ones.
I have some woolrich pants (I think?) if you want them. Probably a 34" waist. I'd have to pull them out but they are too warm for me.
To sort of link ötzi’s and Buster’s thoughts, I’ve been wondering if Filson’s stuff is still good. I heard they got bought out by a PE outfit, and things seem to go to shit when that happens.
That came to mind because Filson’s burly wool britches used to be the bomb. A lot of their stuff was awesome back in the day. I was thinking of buying myself a tin cloth jacket for Xmas.
I used to get wool pants at army surplus stores. Are those a thing any more?
I've scored some good wooly britches recently and need suspenders...ideally some good leathers for the button-on attachments on the woolybritches. Recs?
While not leather, can’t go wrong with falling pants suspenders. Brand Husqi or Stihl blaze orange.
MS, I’m still rocking my army surplus heavyweight wool cargo pants. But they are starting to thin a bit after 20+ yrs in the winter wilderness. I have not found a source of replacement in the past decade. I fear the days of $50 surplus wool pants are gone :(
Me too. I've looked for those old cheap woolies, which were a great value, but can't really find them anymore. Looked at Filson and a bunch of others, and finally decided wool weighs too much and I don't like hiking miles elk hunting with that weight on my legs anymore. Replaced them with Eddie Bauer fleece lined pants I got at Costco. Great cold weather hunting pants. Warm and quiet, and good pockets.
The're expensive fer shure.
My old woolrichs have lasted 35 years; those things could stand up on their own for years.
All the ones I knew are gone, along with the good junk stores. Each are rare now. I think they slid down the financial gradient and broke apart.Quote:

The idea that any questions are unthreadworthy seems out of touch with the gestalt of this place.
But thank you for setting a good example.
I guess.
Filson jac-shirt is the shit
(but that’s the only item I own of theirs)
Fuk, look at the neck & jawline on that slab of a man — i need these wool bibs so I can be this manly

Bill Cowher's son? Probably boxed his way out of his mom with that mustache.
OK, what's the stable homotopy type of the sphere spectrum?
McDonalds Sausage McMuffin >Wendy’s Sausage breakfast sandwich>Burger King Sausage Croissant
Change my mind.
Edit.
And while I’m at it, Burger King hash rounds>Wendy’s seasoned potatoes>McDonalds hash browns
Change my mind. (This one you can, the ratings are much closer.)
Me three. My mom made me a set of knickers out of surplus wool pants. Heavy compared to 3l goretex bibs, and Itchy as fuck, but fine with long Johns underneath.
Double layer knees, wool socks, danger-high-voltage colored sweater, glacier glasses, I was one stylin’ 12yo at Timberline Lodge. That’s before there was a Mt Hood Meadows.
Anyway
All that wool stuff we remember was extra from WWII & Korea. Now soldiers use space-age fabrics and insulation that DoD buys from various commercial manufacturers.
ETA - I just made a fucking potent batch of brownies.
