What about Cee Cee James? Sari Schorr? Joanne Shaw Taylor? Ally Venable? Heather Newman?
I'll leave it up to all you whippersnappers to throw up some video.

Jeez, Liz Phair did not age well. I guess I have the '95 version glued to my retinas.
Do DJ's count? Because I could rattle off a few super hotties.
looking at all these, I guess I need to know what is "smoky"?
Halsey is hot as the sun, but this is my favorite smoke show.

Sara is such a free spirit, seeing her perform live you'd never think she went platinum. The first album she released in 2004(?) was so bare bones it sounded like it was put together in garageband, you could tell the budget and acoustics were souped up in 2007.
Had never listened to this live version before but it confirms what I was just saying, forgets the lyrics and says fuck it then immediately makes up for it in the next verse

Almost forgot Chan Marshall

Any musician currently living in California (or, I suppose, Colorado)?
I won't pass up a chance to recommend Lucy Kaplansky (best recent work is on her Pine Hill Project album with Richard Shindell). But I wouldn't quite call her "smoky". Smoky makes me think more of Bonnie Raitt.
Smokey: used hard an put away wet; voice with rough curves.
Watched an SNL re-run the other night, Halsey was the musical guest.
God. Dam.

That's sort of what I would have guessed, which fits some of the women posted. But some of the artists posted don't come close to that, and many are treating "smoky" as "smokeshow", i.e. hot.
The biggest examples of this dichotomy (from my personal taste):
Janis Joplin and Nina Simone, quintessential smoky voices. Not hot IMO.
Halsey, not a smoky voice, but hot.
And the OP includes "duh" next to Sheryl Crow and Edie Brickell, like those are obvious choices, which leaves me really confused.
I agree w Danno.... to me, smokey means bluesy, with deep musical talent, sometimes ripping into a crazy lick or vocal part but most often understated.
OP should clarify the intent
Never heard of Halsey... ack, couldn't make it 20 seconds into that shit. Nice bum tho
No love for Pat????

My perv brian just assumed smoky meant hot.
Not a good artist, just hot.
And it can be any kind of artist too.
