For those that haven't used CL in awhile, beware if you are selling. I just got scammed on a VIN report for a vehicle I am trying to sell. Fortunately, Paypal had my back and issued a refund, but almost every inquiry has been a lead-in to a scam.

You just figured this out?
It's been about 5 years since I have messed with CL, and those transactions were fine. I'll be sticking with Ebay nowadays.
Have you heard of Bobby Stainless and his free car fax report?
^ I have avoided that thread.
I do just fine with CL. Not rocket surgery.
That said. Car listings are going to cost 5 dollars which will help.

IME, actual people who actually want the stuff will take two seconds to read. Also, I've only unloaded stuff below what I'd think market value would be so its not hard to find real people.
^Good to know. I'll give it a try.
RARE!!!!!!!! Hunter's Special. 5.7L gas. Needs alternator. 2x4 $1,500. 4x4 $5,000.
No SCAMMERS!!!!
I don't need help selling this. If the ad is still up, its still for sale.
Would consider trade for anything worth three times or more as much as my shit. Example: hot motocross bike, growing setup, speed boat.
civic, lamborghini, mercedes, volvo, hunter, fisher, GMC, chevrolet, jukebox, hyundai sonata, sl600, audi, 4runner, highlander, subaru, expedition, excursion, hummer, hummah, H1, K3500, super doody, taylor swift tickets, AC window unit, motocross, recumbant, state flag, chest of drawers, fiat, daewoo, ac delco, sofa, tree removal.
I listed a 1000 dollar 4x4 SUV on craigslist, KSL, and facebook this past summer. Never again.
Although I actually sold 2 cars on Facebook. Never thought I'd be able to say that damn site was actually useful.
I’ve sold a few things on CL. Just insist on meeting in person at some safe location (I use a McDonalds close to my house), and buyer brings cash.
No shipping to some other location or crap like that. I did get a fair number of scam responses, but they seemed obvious enough to weed out.
I never tried to sell a car on CL, though. Maybe that opens up more canned worms.
I sold a ‘93 Telecaster guitar to a guy 1500 miles away. Seemed sketchy as fuck, but after many phone calls, I took a chance. Turned out to be legit. Just do your homework.
A lot of police departments now have designated safe zones for people selling online. Do a search and you'll find a lot of articles about it. Here's just one:
Police offer ‘safe zones’ for online sales transactions
Want a real shit show try selling used tires on CL........never again.
Although come to think of it I sold half my furniture on CL when I moved without any issues. Mostly Russians from
the east side of Seattle.
I've sold a couple things on Craigslist. I've bought a couple things on Craigslist. I try to keep those kinds of transactions to less than a hundred or two hundred dollars though. Anything higher short of cars and I'll let the pawn shop earn the gravy and take the risks of collecting the money. If I'm buying, something through PayPal or a real store always for anything over $100

It’s not hard to NOT get scammed on CL. I use it all the time and have never gotten scammed once. You want what I got? Or vice versa? Cool, show up, in person, with cash. It’s not rocket science
What's really sad is that cesspool is responsible in a big way of the death of many many newspapers
Who still reads newspapers? They have the internet on computers now.
Benny, classified ads were never going to save the daily paper after the net arrived.
There are a lot of scammers. But lots of good legit stuff too.

As opposed to when?
wait, they cleaned up the cess pool section, oh yeah, no more mfmfmwfmilf, fuck.
The meeting at a public location works most of the time (if the item is small enough that it can be taken to the location (large items like furniture, appliances, etc. can't always be dragged to a McDonald's, convenience store or something. Then you have to use a private location.
There was a series of robberies of people showing up with cash to complete a deal recently not too far away and they were also listing and selling stolen items. Cops even did a sting. Saw a stolen chain saw listed, the cops arrange the meeting to look at the saw, and the guy selling the stolen chain saw pulls a gun and tries to rob the cops. Shooting ensued and the "seller"/ robber ended up with injuries and was prosecuted for attempted murder once he was out of the hospital... No surprise that the cop shooting was considered justified when investigated.
So while I have never had any issues with deals over the years and Facebook marketplace sometimes has more items listed, there still can be issues with any used item sale no matter the method.
Old couple that wanted to buy my truck, refused to meet at my bank to complete transaction.
I imagine they were going to try and pay me with a fake check.
I like Letgo and Offerup more anyhow.
I've made a lot of money selling cars on FB. That and IG are the only two places I advertised.
No point in paying for a website anymore.
I like to lead the scammers along.... Give them bazaar excuses and send them fake western union tracking numbers....

I usually try to sell stuff to a friend, on consignment at a local shop, or here on TGR before resorting to Craigslist. However, I usually get best result with CL.
Except last year when I sold a RTT (roof top tent), this guy in Denver messaged me telling me it wasn't worth what I was asking, then started his own post warning people not to buy my tent because it was a Chinese knock off (almost all RTTs are, especially in that price range). He posted links to a wholesaler site where you could get them for cheaper from China (if you bought 30 at a time).
Turned out, he worked for a RTT company that was competing to sell similar Chinese RTTs at high prices in the Denver metro area. I waited a week, then reposted, and sold it for a fair price to a nice lady. Sent the guy an email telling him to fuck off and I knew who he was and who he worked for.
I just bought a car on Craigslist yesterday. Whoop whoop.
