I got a new bike!! Stoke thread with pics!

I'm so juiced...i just got my first new bike in 8+ years, i had been riding(and loving) a Stumpy HT, but alas...it was time to move on. As of a couple days ago, i purchased a Cannondale Prophet. It's pretty much as gucci as it gets...

This thing is amazing on the trails, i rode Las Trampas(DD) with it on Wednesday and Briones(benchmark) yesterday...pretty much mashed both of them. Here's more picture stoke.

It weighed out at 28.7 pds...not bad, about 3-4 less than my Stumpy HT.

Yes it did come with all the stickers, the previous owner was a helluv a lot better than me so i think they "had" to be on there. A couple of the biggies(Mavic & GU) are coming off, maybe a TGR sticker will replace them :the_finge

They aren't, but a couple of the people who ride for the US national Cannondale team (not Cannondale-Siemens) have personal sponsorships.

Nice ride! I have the prophet also and just upgraded my Wheels to the crossmax SLs after my minor taco incident.

I heard that one of the reasons for it being a lefty as opposed to a righty was to balance out the weight of the drive train on the other side, but i really have no clue. Its a fun bike enjoy!

This is my first season of jong offroad biking, so I have no idea about the sport, but I can't figure out why the hell that fork is half baked? It must be sweet but honestly, I would never buy one for myself. Forgive me if this is a bit offensive, I'm just curious as to why a company would do that, is it just for the sake of doing it or is there a reason.

It's stiffer and lighter than most comparable 2-prong forks on the market.

But... to take the wheel off you have to remove the disc caliper.

Cannondale just likes to be different. Leftys work really well, just like any other nice fork, but you really aren't getting a huge advantage over traditional styles.

Anyone notice that Cedric is on Marzocchi this year?

I totally can see it for ease with tire changes, but do you really pop your front tire all that often? Any way what do one of those forks, or knives I suppose, run for?

i'll back the lefty. i'm a pretty big guy and ride pretty hard (in terms of trail riding, no drops bigger than 3 feet) and the two lefties i have had have been good to me. the stiff spring helps lots i must say. however if i had my choice i would probably put a nixon or sherman on my jekyll. the lefty proforms well enough that i cant justify throwing money at another fork tho.

and yeah i did notice that cedric changed forks. you may also note that he rides a zocchi on his 4x prophet. wonder if this is due to better $'s from zocchi or not having trust in the lefty? hummmm...

Single-sided rear swingarms have been around on motorcycles for a long time now.

The really fast/powerful race bikes have gone back to double-sided because at 400# and 130+ HP, the SS gets torqued around more and has to be built heavier to compensate. On a bicycle I don't think it makes as much difference.

I'm guessing that Cannondale thinks the weight advantage of having only one stanchion is an acceptable tradeoff for it (and the hub) having to be heavier to withstand the side loading. But mainly it looks cool and different.

One thing I do like about Lefties is the needle bearings -- much less stiction than the bushings on regular forks. Combine that with low weight (from being USD), TPC+ damping, and you've got yourself an extremely buttery fork.

Righties are cool, too...

People always comment on the fact that the Lefty looks funny and it seems like it should have to be built heavier etc. but it seems like no one notices that the bending moment that the Lefty strut is carrying due to the tire's lateral offset is less than the moment being carried by all forks due to the longitudinal offset. Have a look at any standard fork from the side and notice the distance between the contact patch and the crown...a couple inches to the side is pretty insignificant, especially when it lets them solidly mount the axle to the shock.

Can you take them off? A guy who works in the bike shop I go to is spancered by Cannondale and most of the stickers on his bikes are actually clearcoated, so you can't remove them. The new Gemini Dh's are like that too.

Sweet bike though.
