AP has it in the tube. unclear whether bombs or initial reports of power surge.
LONDON - Several blasts went off on the London subway Thursday, police said, injuring some people and prompting officials to shut down the entire underground network a day after London was awarded the 2012 Olympics and as the G-8 summit was getting underway in Scotland.
Initial reports blamed a power surge, but officials were not ruling out an intentional attack.
One witness, Darren Hall, said some passengers emerging from an evacuated subway station and that some passengers had soot and blood on their faces. He told BBC TV that he was evacuated along with others near the major King's Cross station and only afterward heard a blast.
roo, so happy to hear from you and to know mrs. Roo is OK. News coming so far suggest an attack someway similar to what happened in spain's trains some months ago
german sources speak of a BOMB in the bus, yet it seems concerning the explosions in the subway it is not yet certain whether it was an attack or "just" explosions.
edit: now it is at leats one bomb in the subway. and 3 busses were blown away.
I think the bbc website has crashed under load...
Reuters gone too.
Fack. terrorist fuckers. 3 buses dont just blow up from a power surge.
So sorry, Roo, for your countrymen. Glad you and the Mrs are OK.
[now this thread can degrade into a rant about bush and blair. alll I gotta say on that point is that even if you disagree with them, no one should be getting blown up.]
Just confirmed by UK Police: 1 bus exploded, 2 other explosions in other busses.
Other sources speak of 5 busses.

LONDON (AFP) - Scotland Yard said it has received reports of "multiple explosions" across London.
"At 8:50 am (0750 GMT) we were called to Aldgate station to assist the City of London Police and British Transport Police regarding an incident on the Underground system," a spokeswoman said Thursday.
"There have been further reports of multiple explosions in London. It is too early to say what has caused these explosions," she said.
"There has been a confirmed explosion on a bus at Tavistock Place," said the spokeswoman.
"The Metropolitan Police, British Transport Police and City of London Police are working together to ensure officers are deployed to each scene.
"There have been reports of numerous casualties but it is too early to say numbers at this stage," she said.

LONDON - An explosion destroyed a double-decker bus in central London during rush hour Thursday, police said. Two other blasts also went off in other buses, reports said. There were reports of casualties.
The explosion near Russell Square occurred not long after blasts on London subways earlier Thursday, police said. Dow Jones Newswires reported that police confirmed explosions on at least two others buses.
One of the buses exploded near Russell Square, police said. A witness said the entire top deck of that bus was destroyed.
"I was on the bus in front and heard an incredible bang, I turned round and half the double decker bus was in the air," Belinda Seabrook told Press Association, the British news agency.
She said the bus was packed with people.
"It was a massive explosion and there were papers and half a bus flying through the air," she said.
Here's hoping it's 'just' high explosive.
Roo don't even mention Dirty Bombs. Fuckit I'm off home.
buses and subways would be the classic high explosiv targets i'd guess. many people packed close :(
if you wanted to deploy anything worse(chemical /bio), i guess one would probably choose places where it can spread better.
anyway it's bad enough. fuckers.
I just heard. Thank god you & the missus are alright, Roo!
Where abouts are ya, D?Quote:

Mrs Roo's been advised to stay right where she is for the time being. I think she's being recruited by the hospital at Queen Square to porter people in on gurneys.
Just in: Israel had been warned for terrorist attacks hours before they happened. Apparently, there's some kind of convention (not the G8) in London where an Israeli representative would be present.
Edit: British Army is moving into London. Embassies are being cleared. Police concerned this is a coordinated attack.
6 explosions confirmed.
20 people dead.
at least 90 injured in ONE subway station.
Thank God you are alright Roo/Mrs. Roo. Who else amongst us is in London?
Why? Why again? Why? Will this ever end? All I can think of is running through LAX the morning of September 11th as we were evacuated.
My thoughts and prayers are with everyone in London on this darkest of nights......
Roo can you go into chat?
Tottenham Court rd. What about you?Quote:

Roo, I'm glad you and the Missus are okay. Don't even know what to say about what's happened over there except I hope that not too many were harmed.
:(
Sprite
Glad to see the Roo's and other London Maggots are ok. Driving to work, and hearing the news - I went straight to TGR for the skinny the second I arrived.
I just went out to get some lunch & got acosted by a German TV crew. They interviewed me and asked how badly London will be affected by this, I replied: "We got through the Blitz, we can get through this". Got to stick one up the Jerries at any opportunity! :)
Phew! My train into King's Cross got in about 10 minutes before mayhem struck so I'm OK. I normally go by tube to Russel Square tube where there was a bomb in the tunnel. All of the therapists have been doing portering duties taking emergency equipment to Russel Sq tube . My colleague saw 5 people on the ground but didn't stop to look. I went around later to collect equipment and the casualties had gone but there was blood everywhere inside the station. Some of my porter mates were busy mopping it up with blankets etc. They are now bringing out the dead. One of the nurses said there were 17 bodies on the station platform. There are some gruesome stories going around of what people saw etc. We are now just staying put and waiting for when we will be needed again.
Shit, your city under seige. NYC mags, I felt for you then and I'm feeling it for you a lot more now.
Mrs R xxxx
Good luck Mrs R. I shouldn't joke.
Did the Germans forget about past IRA attacks that London endured?Quote:

That's pretty broken.
This was the day after, or the same day London was awarded the olympics?
Glad evryone is o.k.
the day after. But the G8 meeting currently ongoing in scotland is prolly more related than the olympicsQuote:
