I like those more than I like the Frank Lloyd Wright bunker style homes.
"Who has the worst taste in architecture? "
the residents of Bensonhurst, Brooklyn and much of Long Island.
I like it. Looks like a messed up movie set or Disney World gone horribly wrong. It least there is character. Won't find that in H.R.
What does Dachi mean?
Worst taste in Architecture - Americans in general.
Not even the Russians can stop Highlands Ranch from sucking.
dachi is plural for Dacha.
A dacha is a country house of which there are generally two kinds, fancy retreats from the city (like those pictured) and small intensively gardened private plots out from the city. Any family that wants one pretty much has the ag kind (usually under an acre in size) with a fairly simple building (most often brick). Those pictured are the fancy kinds. Russian families supplement a tremendous amount of their diet with food they grow themselves (and either consume or sell). Often times even the buildings in "neighborhoods" of dachi that are modest and devoted primarily to ag contain one or two absurdities.
With the rise of the "new Russians" ("nouvwee ruskee") a lot more have the bling to build the fancy ones.
yup. Those are pretty ugly.

Well, I read that entire article......ummmmm, no I didn't. But that house on the right made me laugh.
Obviously, you've never been to San Bernardino County. The new slate of track homes out there are the most inhumane dwellings I've ever seen. Think of the cheapest "new" house you've ever seen multiplied by 100,000.
Americans are much worse. The "snout homes" that cover recent suburbs are some of the ugliest dwellings ever.

I love those Russian places. They have so much personality. Sometimes that personality is a bit schizophrenic but it all adds to the fun

Definitely much better than the sensible US houses:

Available in any colour you want as long as it's beige. :fm:
Those houses scream "Oh god, they're laughing at us again. Tell them to stop laughing at us."Quote:

Ok, back to the point, I promise. As I reached Vauxhall Bridge, I was greet by an absolutely huge development project. I stopped. I gasped. I stared. I couldn't believe my eyes....Had someone transported me to Beijing or Hangzhou? This thing had China written all over it, from its complete disregard for scale to its unabashed love for, well, whatever you call those random wavy things on the roof. Its unwillingness to fit in with the surroundings, its disregard for history, its likely astronomical price and rather random location- all of these brought a smile to my face. I miss China. If things were right in the world, this place would have a name like "Morden City London" (misspelled on purpose) , "Forever Garden New Town" or "Renaissance New York Soho Modern Home". If I was in charge, though, I would call it "China-on-the-Thames".
Are you kidding? That's brilliant. No one has ever thought of combining an English Tudor cottage, a lighthouse and a glass house until now. ;)Quote:

You gotta love Babelfish's translations of the text from that article:
Heh: "And how often we wrote about the dachas! They penetrated for the concrete fences, pretended themselves by buyers and salesmen, even they poked by unskilled workers. "Quote:
RECONSTRUCTION of our economy begins from reconstruction of personal dachas "- wrote" Argumenty i fakty magazine "in the distant 1994. Then they only began to be constructed. How much water flowed away since then, how many foundations became palaces! And how often we wrote about the dachas! They penetrated for the concrete fences, pretended themselves by buyers and salesmen, even they poked by unskilled workers. This time "Argumenty i fakty magazine" it decided to rise into air in order to glance at the peace from the height of bird flight. Once above these fields and by forests already flew Mr. of the repairings, when he was the leader of the State Tax Service of the Russian Federation. You do remember? It conducted aerial photography and revealed on the map of the Moscow area 70 thousand new objects. It passed several years - repairings it had time to build its own dacha and to leave further on the career stairs. they arrived by others. And already new ministers raise to themselves cottages. Here in the past year the ministry of natural resources revealed in the territory of Moscow region of the 5-6 additional thousand structures, about which the state did not suspect. But can, to state it is necessary not from the domestic dachas and the cottages to begin, but from the foreign. Built to the exported money. What did change in the past 10 years? First of all money, fantasy and taste in the owners of dachas became more. However, then that we saw, dachas you will no longer name. This is even out-of-town real estate. These are often natural estates - luxurious houses with the columns, the ponds, the winter gardens with the tropical plants. Next are located all necessary services, garages, accomodations for the protection and houses for the guests. All this can be seen, having only risen into the sky. On the earth the owners of dachas have the concrete fences, which to in time break only by the tank (see "Argumenty i fakty magazine" № 23, 2005). And many have the same concrete souls. The owner of "fazendy" never will understand her new Russian neighbors. As he will not understand, from where are taken such den'zhishchi, although we all are the citizens of one country. "Russians, you understand". In one Moscow settlement they recently opened electricity for the nonpayment. But they paid. Three elegant houses simply next built, connected to the common counter and ate entire limit of kilowatt-hours. So stuck also to our country some citizens, drinking from it juices, pumping out abroad, lubricating them for our calculation. But the rest, are more precise, which were remained here, in Russia, on their native land, the people pay taxes, they economize electricity, are gathered their small houses and fences from what it is necessary. They plant potato. And thus far this is their entire topographical design.
F'ing unskilled workers are always poking things...
i think that russian stuff looks awsome. The american shit is too boring and everything is just a copy of what other countries produce or create.
Do you mean architecture in America or do you mean American architects' work?Quote:
