Great shots!
Sick shots! Snapped this with the iPhone and I was able to keep my kids from drowning in the water while trying to take it all in at Redfish Lake. As always, all pics here load sideways. Attachment 210926
It was epic.. just getting a look now at what I shot in central OR.. actually well worth the 12 hr sufferfest back to Mt Vernon..

and your shots.. you have done it justice

My buddy Richard Hallman got lucky enough to have a plane fly right through his shot... pretty fucking rad!

I can not take any credit for this photo. Where I found it, it was claimed to be a NASA photo. It is the coolest I have seen yet. But if I ever travel to see an eclipse I am headed for a sunset or sunrise.
Last one looks extremely fake.
Completely fake (edit.. or maybe not. See posts below). The eclipse occurred mid-dayish when the sun is not anywhere near the horizon. At no point during this eclipse could someone (even NASA) have managed to capture that scene. Additionally, that looks like an annular eclipse.
Facebook friends keep sharing and gushing over a bunch of these fake "photos" that should actually be categorized as digital art. I've given up trying to convince people that the photos are not real eclipse photos.
That said...
Excellent shots Andrew and others :yourock:. That photo with the plane is also pretty amazing. I can't wait for the eclipse here in Vermont in 2024 :) Hopefully it isn't too cloudy in April.

Stacking four neutral density filters didn't work so well but I suppose it created a somewhat interesting effect -

Got a few more in the other eclipse thread
After the callout, I looked into this piece of digital art, and it is absolutely fake.
I am still convinced that you could see an eclipse at sunrise or sunset. Because the path of the moons shadow crosses the earths surface, and would coincide with a sunrise and sunset. I have no idea how it would look with angles atmospheric distortion and cloud cover. Maybe I will still have to try and travel and find out.
I repent sharing a photo I actually tookhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...d3a5684390.jpg
I actually have to take back my post. You are correct about coinciding with a sunrise and sunset. The eclipse was actually first viewable roughly 2,500 miles off the coast of Oregon at -171 degree longitude (aka WAAYYY out in the Pacific Ocean). Or it could be from sunset out in the Atlantic Ocean where the eclipse ended. Here NASA very well could have been flying a plane that captured that image. On closer inspection, what I thought was an island actually looks to be a large cruise ship on the horizon. It would make sense that there would be a cruise ship parked in the perfect location to catch the sunrise eclipse. But there are still elements of that shot that look very fake. It is likely some artifacts of creating a HDR image and oversaturation.
It is confirmed fake. The eclipse image was pasted on top of a sun set photo. You can see clouds behind the sun. As art it still looks cool. But so do pictures of unicorns fighting grizzly bears.
I am intrigued by the idea of trying to catch a sunrise/sunset eclipse. Maybe I'll try to make it to Argentina.
it's hard to tell but we're doing sign of the horns

Wow, that is outstanding.

I didn't want to try to hard, didn't bring a tripod or anything. I made a few test shots and figured out framing. Shot 3 or 4 frames during totality and enjoyed the rest
Up by Packsaddle? Nice shot!
^^Excellent.
I'm getting my location all picked out for 2024.
The sun likely won't be as large as seen below. I'm going to have to do some test shots in the years leading up to this.

Here's another... during totality I just shot bracketed images.. this is a composite of 3 to capture as much of the corona as I could while minimizing blown highlights.. the star Regulus is below left
https://photos.imageevent.com/banos/...r%202-2png.png
the one thing i do is merge the least 2 exposed.. then merge that image to the next least exposed.. then merge that image with the next etc... but sometimes it is too much.. so that is why I went with just the three... I might try to merge a 4th with this shot but It's been hectic after getting back from Madras, work and prepping for an 8 dayer in the Pickets this coming week... fyi I use Photomatrix Pro.. I find it not perfect but it gives quite a few options
Thanks for the tips. I'm gonna work on mine and post it up if it's any good.
Depending on what software you have there's tons of ways to do what BaNosser is describing. HDR merge from Photoshop or Lightroom is fairly automated if you have either of those and don't want to shell out the $ for Photomatix.
Olympus EM1ii with 300F4 on tripod with remote shutter release.. iso 200.. F5.6.. RAW saved as TIF
image 1: 1/40 +0.3
image 2: 1/160 -1.7
image 3: 1/2 +4.3
these are from a set of 7 images.. I will eventually try to fuse them in Photoshop but I need more time than I currently have to do it..
I just snapped a picture with my phone not expecting anything and didnt even look close.
Later i realized I got this neat little reflection off of something.Attachment 211081
This one is 4 images with a bit of moon detail from the light reflecting off earth
https://photos.imageevent.com/banos/...Defaultpng.png
I did a 6 image composite using the Pellett Method described here: http://www.astropix.com/html/j_digit/e_comp.html
Ends up with a lot of noise, but the detail in the corona is cool.

Nice, man!
Reminds me of Schlieren pictures

Cool to see the pictures you all took. I didn't even bother to try taking anything, just hung out and experienced it. It was cool to watch the sunset/rise on the steam coming from the nuclear plant down the river, but I didn't even take a picture of that.
This was what 80% totality looked like where I live.
