In that epic AK TR in that forum all the photos are gone--just some weird thing now from photobucket about a third party server. WTF? I bumped that thread and asked what is going on--anyone paying attention??
My picture finally changed from a ? to an actual photo.
Photobucket has changed its terms of service. All of the years I have been using them they provided embedding links which I used to link to TRs and random web pages. Now that they have millions of users with billions of photos that may or may not be linked their new policy is you need an upgraded pay account. One option for this and it is $400 a year payable in advance. This was likely their plan from the beginning, get many users with our free offer, watch them load and link photos, when a certain user number is reached spring a pay to play requirement.
The ads they had were mostly shit I didn't need or use, and that ghost page of "ads" looked like a virus ship. I have purchased several prints from them over the years, so not entirely a leech.

I'll mess with the CDN rules over the next couple days to hopefully improve things.
Problem is that there has been some people uploading image to the forums and then hotlinking them to other sites, costing us 100's of GB in bandwidth over the month of June. Now that July is through and we are under the maximum, I can start to relax the CDN rules a bit.

The following workflows do not fucking work:
A. Go Advanced | Manage Attachments | Drag previously uploaded files into this area to attach them | Preview Post
B. Click Insert Image Icon | Select From Computer | Select jpg file from PC | Click Upload File(s) | Preview Post
In both of these cases, vbulletin returns a string
"Click image for larger version. Name: Bear shit.jpg Views: 0 Size: 1.30 MB ID: 210924"
But NO FUCKING PHOTO SHOWS IN THE FUCKING PREVIEW
If you click on that "click image" string, vbulletin returns a new screen with the message
"Invalid Attachment specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator"
These methods worked just fine on July 30
All of this is on a wintel system. Windows 10. I gave up trying to do anything with iOS on here a long time ago...

I spent a couple of hours uploading a trip report with a bunch of images. Some of them showed but it was obviously too many for one post so I tried to edit it but the links to the missing photos are all dead now. Can't fix it or repost because I can't find the links to the pictures.
Honestly I doubt too many people are even going to look at a family backpacking trip report so not really worth my trouble to try to redo it with smaller individual posts.
Where the hell are the attachments? Is there a gallery somewhere that I can go copy the links. and quickly fix my TR? I have it save on notepad here on my computer but worthless if the [ATTACH=CONFIG]211291[ATTACH] leads absolutely nowhere. Frustrating.
I guess the TR is saved for my Facebook friends. A better platform for sharing.
