 This face, cause I'm working graveyard and won't be up in the canyon.
I think the real question is, "Who's not skiing the Bird tomorrow?" I can't wait to wait two hours per tram lap.
Anyway, I'll be there, hopefully by 8:30.
I think it'll be a mix of :fmicon: with a little bit of :yourock: thrown in there for good measure.

Maybe a
:frown: when looking at the tram line
I am going to be there, but prolly not until 9ish. Waiting on a couple guys to see if they have to work in this weather.
See yous guyses. Heading out the door in about 19 1/2 minutes. :D :D :D
out the door ! is Gad zoom open? Imight go there 1st
I am NOT there.
But don't worry, i'm having soooooo much fun here in the office.
so, how was it?
start warming up at all or stay creamy?
what'd they get open?
how long was tram line?
I'm back now. Only made a couple of laps.
Tram lines = long.
Peruvian side = BC, but gates were open. special advisory on tram that they
would be closing shortly due to rising temps. violation = tram closure apparently.
Road to provo=closed, but being bombed when I left.
MB = closed for year.
Snow was tracked and getting thick.
Maybe I'm just a grouch, but it wasn't "all that". Not even close to getting into the top 10 of the year. Top 30? maybe. I miss Alta :frown:
^ thanks for update Schtump
kinda how I thought it'd be and sounds like it skied similar to lower down last night at Alta; I'm ready for corn
we'll see what skideeppow has got to say about today though
My Boy Stump, you should have been with me (and BumZ and Little Larry). North Baldly was open and AWESOME. I only got a few laps as well as work is a BITCH but still a great morning. The tram lines were stupid. I was the last person let on the first tram, Boo-Boo Kitty was right behind me (tough luck). Couldn't see a thing first run but went skiers right of elevator shaft and just sank in. Total white room until the groomer way below. Baldy was money. Rode Amasa Back on Tuesday night, skied sweet pow on Thursday morning. Man I love living here.
^ when I was skinning to Little last night, Bird North Baldy felt $$ - glad ya got some
It was very good today. Dense? Yes. Wet down low? Yes. Super F-ing fun on Spatulas? You bet.
Best run of the day by far was my 2nd one, and first on Baldy. Skied the little trees between West and North, and it was totally untracked, super smooth, and tons-o-fun. I could ski stuff like that forever.
The tram line did suck, but it was worth it for the quality turns.
Like I said, it just might be that I was grouchy. Any pow in May is good pow, but I didn't get anything that felt ball deep or compared to the pow days we had in Feb. or March.
Besides, I was with Miss Stump, so no skiing with the boys for me. Meh. I need to buy a bike. Glad everyone else had a better time than me though.
^ maybe you should've come to "cube-land" with me or stayed home and watched baseball whiny biaaatch ;)
we ain't gonna get jan/feb blower in may Einstein :nonono2:
Thats not what I heard. I also heard that the roads here would be paved with gumdrops and when it rained in the valley it would be in the form of chocolate milk, and that utards travelled on rainbows and pegasuses. I've been totally misled.Quote:

I have no complaints.
I parked in the Gad lot and was looking for Lumpy. When I got to the ticket window the place was empty; I flashed my comp ticket to the lifty and he said I could take one ride up as long as I went over to the Plaza and redeemed my ticket for a pass. I called Lumpy on the ride up at 8:55 and we met at the top. But we were having a little too much fun and skied too low for me to make it to the Plaza. Oops, I was hoping the lifty would understand that my thinking was impaired by the abundance of powder. He did understand, but he said "Can I trust you to go get a pass?" and of course I said 'yes'. But, alas, Little Cloud had just opened as we neared the top of Gadzoom. So we did what any other powder skiing maggot would do - we headed for Little Cloud. Our first run on the rope line at far skier's right of Regulator was fabulous. I think we got another couple rides on LC before the crowds discovered our semi-private wonderland. Chatted with Ned & Kristin while waiting in a growing line before a couple more runs on LC; but, I was starting to feel the onset of RAD (Responsible Adult Syndrome). We made for Wilbur Bowl; but, lured by the siren song of fresh swow with nary a track, we dropped in and skied a nice line to Mid-Gad restaurant and made our way to the parking lot.
All-in-all, it was a good day to play hooky. And, I still have my comp ticket for another day's use - thank you Snowbird.
This is my face -->
:yourock: That's one of my favorite lines down Baldy. Didya duck into Broom Closet on the exit (or is that totally filled in?) Always seems to be a bit deeper and less tracked.Quote:

They probably decided they had to run it when the Tram line was a full maze by 8:30. erg.
Just got back!!
FKNA!!
Yes I am but a simple man, and easily amused but today was Tits for MAY 12th 2005!!

I wish I was there. I tried to leave school to ski at around noon, but when I got home to get my gear my mom was there. I had to go back to school and sit in class doing nothing because the teacher wasn't even there. :cussing:
Not a bad way to spend a May afternoon. Stump's sandy-vaginitis has apparently spread, cause my day was so-so too.
Certainly not complaining, definitely some great conditions today, just skied like a putz.
Nice to meet MacDaddy and remeet the Tresckows. Saw Mr. AG in line, but my desire to make some turns precluded waiting for the next tram...I'm sure he understands.
Tomorrow? Perhaps.
No, he meant me. We lent the Daddy Mack AG's 106's, I think he liked them. :biggrin:Quote:

Stump: deposit sand, buy bike, buy body armour, give somebody the finger (as hard as you can). That should do it. :)
Totally depended on where you went today. I had a couple of top ten runs of the year on upper Silver Fox right out of the gate and on No. Baldy.
In line at 8:35 and got the 9:02 bucket. A few lucky souls (about 125) got a pre-opening tram for the first tram of the day. Actually, if you want to get technical, I did see a work bucket go up right before the pre-opening one but it didn't look like more than a dozen people on it. That was all OK because LC wasn't running yet so only that first group of riders had tracked up the top.
Popped thru the upper gate, sailed past Macaroni and dropped in for the most continuous face shots I've had for weeks. And I was even wearing my Daddioes. It was amazing. The top 1000 vert of SF and Baldy were light and super deep. The middle 1000 verts skied normal to stiff. The bottom 1000 verts were hideous. Probably about the wettest, gloppiest, most ACL-endangering snow I've skied this season. I avoided any off-piste skiing below 9000 feet after that.
I had to bow out and do a little work for a few minutes at 11:30 so I missed the actual LC gate opener. GT and Flyk told me about it after they plundered as much as they wanted. Thanks for the heads up guys. I had 4 unreal pow runs in one of my usual spots there.
The patrol opening LC was classic! Everyone I had talked to on the tram or chairs had said there was no way LC would be open today. First thing one of the trollers had told me in the bullpen this morning was that LC bowl was a priority to open even if they didn't get LC chair going. So I just smiled whenever anyone said they were leaving early because everything was getting skied out. What was really cool is that they left RTP closed up top so it looked to many peeps like LC was still closed. They made a mid-entry gate into upper Old Lady, traversing across Shireen, like they used to do for summer skiing when RTP got too rocky. The displaced entry gate, people leaving early, and no viz, kept the whole bowl hidden to the masses. Only the lucky few who figured it out got the goods. Fat Yeti and I were still getting FACE SHOTS after 2PM! It was stellar.
Not only did the bird quickly make the decision to go ahead and run LC chair, but they also fired up Perv to dissipate some of the crowd. I really like the new, flexible, responsive, agile, whatever you want to call it attitude of the bird.
This goes down as the second best May pow day I've ever had. The only one better for me was the 31" in 24 hours that we had in May of '99.
It was great seeing everyone up there today! :D :D :D

We got up to the bird at about 1130 and headed straight for little cloud when we heard it was open. Almost headed back to the tram but thought we would give RTP a try and once we made it through the pea soup traverse it was wonderful. Full on face shots and untracked light may pow. We were the 2nd group in when they dropped the far rope and again had untracked dense freshies, perfect for big fast turns. We spent all afternoon lapping little cloud and it was great. Hard to believe how much snow is still up there.Quote:

Oh, and by the way, when I said everyone I talked to didn't think LC would open, I'm not talking about any maggots I spoke with. None of the maggs I rode with offered any opinion one way or another. They just skied. Like maggots do. :D
Good skiing with you again GT, Flyk, Trescow, Kristin, Fat Yeti, and almost Lumpy...
Well, after he ditched boo boo kitty when he was the last person for first tram I'm sure he undertands :cool:Quote:

We had lots of face shots into the afternoon. I'm sure I'll have dreams about todays skiing, tonight.
I wish it would snow all year around, up there.

Bell to bell today for us, which is saying alot about either our addiction to skiing, or the conditions for today.
I took a big digger off some cliffs in the Gad chutes, over the rocks, airborne and weightless, then tomahawking over another cliff band, and off again, more weightlessness, then full on McGoverning down the remainder. If anyone is wondering about the cliffs lookers left of the top of Gadzoom, let me say the snow is real solid in the LZ.
Made for easy postholing up to my skis though
