Get him one of these. I don't know how bright they are though. Never tried one myself.

Try a headlamp. My favorite brand is Black Diamond.
Besides the, ahem, lovely suggestions above, I'd second a headlamp. Black diamonds are great. I love to have one with a red light setting for night.
Black diamond headlamps are great but till recently many of their older models lacked LED regulation so the drop in brightness was significant after a few hours. I just got a replacement Storm (the hinge on my old one went bonkers) and the new one with regulated output has outperformed by old by by head and shoulders. The design of the new Storm and Spot are "meh" IMO and I think they should have stuck to the previous design which was absolutely gorgeous

BUMP.
Maglite mini I use at work everyday died. I like it, lasted 5 years, but I think there must be something better out there.
Looking for the following:
- Similar form factor as a maglite mini 2AAA (aka slightly slimmer than a cigar, fits in a pen pocket)
- Able to focus the light for inspection of an item or spread the light for general vision.
- Don't need different brightness's, strobe, colors, or any bullshit.
What is a good brand to look at?
Surefıre , Fenix and ,Supernova are the best brand on the market as a flashlıght .
The headlights(BD, Eveready) are handy...lets one carry additional any large halogen. Using the BD's red light to commune with the sasquatches?...MsShasta:rolleyes:
No love for Petzl?
I got a Gentos and love it. Tint and diffusion are king in lanterns for me.
Jetbeam BA10. Uses one AA and very reasonable Price. I was eating up with CR batteries and probably have enough to power a football stadium. Your comments about the availability of certain batteries during Sandy has encouraged my decision for getting some AA lights. This is not a individual AA but uses four is the Nitecore EA4. Between the BA10 and the EA4, this gives me the AA battery benefits. I use Eneloop rechargeables. Also, have a car charger and a solar charger for the AA's if wanted. Just a thought.
Surefire
This is flashlight is one of the best for me... The price is bigger but the quality is the best -
Streamlight Water Resistant, Aluminum Industrial Tactical Flashligh
I bought an Oracle xenon flashlight at 4wheelonline. A bit pricey but extremely bright and waterproof.
I bought an Oracle xenon flashlight at FUCKSPAM online.
I bought an M Series FUCK YOU SPAMMERS light in Gear Swap.
/my work here is done
I'm using Fenix flashlight and Streamlight small flashlight, both are working Excellent.
Fleshlights seem to bring out the spamming robots.
PS. Splat has powers to edit anyone’s posts?
Coast makes some good headlamps. White, red, and green lamps for following a blood trail.
I bought this Inova mid size light a few years back and LOVE IT for flashlight oriented use cases. It's got both white/red light, is rechargeable and the charge lasts for a long time. the red is very bright and extremely useful for walking around the neighborhood at night. it's probably too large for daily carry in a pocket tho.

As per my personal Experience PeakPlus Flashlight work best for me
BD has some good lights and headlamps
If you're looking for very high power, get a Thrunite TH30. Way better and cheaper than the comparable-brightness Petzl or BD offerings.
I have several BD headlamps fail or be too complicated to use. I'm happier with Petzl. Never tried thrunite. Next time.
Tried bunch from BD, Peztel, and many others.
Zebralights championed the headlamps. 18650 batteries lasts FOREVER along it can rotate 360 deg which is very useful to hit the right angle for whatever acivity you are doing!
Petzl Bindi is the best for a very lightweight headlamp, but not very bright. Perfect for backpacking. BD Storm is great for everyday use.
Zebralight 18650 goes up to 1000 lumens and has great battery management.
Very light too.
I skied a steep couloir a week ago using it, perfect

I picked up a Sofirn SP40 to use for after hour hiking up/skiing down. Its pretty bright and can be used as a headlamp (little heavy). They are on sale at amazon with promo code 15TJDDIT. Very well built and you can also buy direct from Sofirn if you're not in a hurry.
Got a Nitecore HC33 I like. Nitecore has bigger heat syncs than most.
On the Nitecore tip, I've got an NU25 that I absolutely love. Its tiny, mega ultralight, plenty bright enough for night hiking/touring too
