I quit all smoking/chewing June 27th 2002. I miss a good nicotine buzz, but oh well...Lip cancer has got to blow pretty hard.
I quit cope at the end of September. I started smoking within the week. The I quit and started and quit again. So far, so good.
I quit smoking almost 2 years ago. I still have an occaisional dip/chew, maybe 3x's a year.
funny you mention this, i was thinking about posting something the other day when i had the first craving in a long time.
i quit chewing Kodiak a year and a half ago, cold turkey. i loved that shit and had chewed for a long time. used to smoke cigs too but gave that up quite a few years ago. things have been good since. i don't think about it much at all and chew gum instead.
i am fucking sooo happy that i quit. at almost $5 a can, the money saved is huge. i've got other addictions to spend that $ on.
the other day, after a year and a half....i had the strongest urge to pick up a can. i thought that was kinda weird because it had been so long. anyways, i'm glad i didn't and i never will. that shit is BAD.
16 years for me and cigarettes, but I still get that urge every now and then. Best advise I got from the therapist was NEVER to touch a cigarette again. Now I have to work on that Oxycotin thing.Quote:

Chewing tobakky is the only thing that keeps one sane whilst attending a boarding preperatory school. I find that the early AM lipper in the shower is the one that I really miss.
Other activities that require a can: long distance driving, studying, being drunk.

i always found that chewing and skiing didn't mix too well with me. i would get dehydrated and then the heartburn would kick in.
A little story about chewing. Chewing was pretty rampant on my HS soccer team, but my one friend was a fiend. So, one of the players dads bet him $50 if he could quit chewing cold turkey for the length of the soccer season. He agrees, and quits. 3 hours later he is PMS'ing. A day later he is going freaking insane. So, he picks up snuff, and starts snuffing for the remainder of the bet. Gets the $50 bucks, immediately goes out and buys a log.
Last time I saw him he had a chew in. That guy is going to end up on a slide during health class.

I was so stoked when I was one of 4 freshman to make the ski team--there were sixty something folks who tried out for 11 spots, and me and Adolf Aller-Busch made it! Our team was consistently one of the top 3 at state and most of the skiers were also varsity football or soccer players, so I figured that the program was to be no different than those--stiff and regimented. How else had we done so well.

--Now, I visit my wife where she works in oncology (cancer floor) and see, daily, young kids, 20's 30's dying in horrible pain, faces gone, coughing fighitng for air, with so much morphine in them for pain that it is practically killing them, and yet still they scream.
I see thier kids knowing they are going to be without one of thier parents in a matter of days.

I've tried to quit several times. Most of those times I was good until it came to road trips, drinking, camping, or skiing (that pretty much sums up my lifestyle:D ). I just couldn't live without a pinch of cope or skoal while driving down the freeway or watching football at a bar. I agree that it's a nasty addiction. If I were to quit I would save $300 a year! That's a pair of used skis, boots, season pass. Damn, gotta kick the habit.
Yep...I was all good this summer until I had to drive from Chicago to North Carolina. Gotta get over this shit though. Perhaps tomorrow will be a good day to give her another crack.

Back in high school we got pulled out of class to have a guy talk to us about the dangers of chewing. I don't remember most of what he said, mostly because I was too busy staring at the huge sections of his face that were missing.
