13 and dropping here. We only got as high as 22 today but the sun was out and it is dry so "thank-goodness for small favors".
Soooooo glad I had the insulation redone in the house this year. Barn cats all have killer new beds that have emergency blankets sewn in them under a fleece lining (those silver blankets that reflect body heat back onto you). Horses are sportin' warm blankets and everyone has heated water buckets. Hunkering down here in EWA.
-5 and dropping here. Bet it's down to -20 in the am. Will post pics.
Maybe it's my Norse blood talking, but I don't mind he cold. Makes me feel alive. I know it's not the most popular opinion, but i'll take -20 over heat any day.
Just got done clearing the driveway. -9, Gunna get colder. Hot buttered rum sounds good .
-10 this morning, and Rocky Mountain Power shut down service to Eastern Idaho. They blamed a glitch, hearing it was planned as they new the grid was going to be maxed? Twas' lovely, glad to be the sacrificial lamb.
Well crap, guess it's just balmy here in EWA and to think I was going to put the polar fleece sheets on the bed tonight. Sounds like you all need them more than me.
My thermometer says - 32C at the moment. My walk home was sporty this evening.
That's pretty damn cold.
As a former Minnesnowtan, I'm getting a good chuckle listening to the local Spokane news folks talk about "a cold 6 degrees F". Christ, you pussies; we grilled salmon tonight. OUTSIDE. The HORROR!
-32F up in this bitch!
Wow, even down to -8 in NE Calif right now. Kind of nice to be 55 degrees at the beach, but granted, we have no snow.
-17 overnight, but up to -6 this morning. Sun's out for the first time in a few days, but there's nfw I'm getting up on the roof to clean the panels, and the sun won't do shit to the snow with an all day high of 0 or whatever we get today. Generator sounded annoyed when I woke it up this morning.
Got a block heater on that generator?
Hm. Well I have one on mine, here in the balmy mid-atlantic. Not sure if you're saying of course you do or asking wtf I am talking about.
Below zero in Stapleton, Denver, Colorado
I made the same mistake when I ordered my truck when I moved up here... Got the block heater, not realizing of course that it draws 15a... I could run it off the generator, but starting one engine cold to save starting another engine cold doesn't seem worth it. I bought a honda generator from costco, and will return it when it dies. And I have a lifetime warranty on the truck. When the engine quits, I get another one for free..
-22F here when I looked a while ago, fkn brisk out for sure!
Suppose to be around 68 degrees out tonight.
May need to go dig out a sweater from storage.
We might see lows around 0* but the highs have been close to 20 so not bad at all. The part that sucks is we rarely see snow here with these weather patterns.
reminder with all this cold....
bring in your pets. make sure the water dish is NOT frozen. cover paws if out for a while.
The small lake (pond) here freezes hard enough about every two years to play hockey on, It's only good for about a week though. When I lived in NY the great south Bay (salt water) would freeze every couple years, All the old ice boats would come out and lots of people would drive across to fire island.
Rookies.
The real cold weather thread has been going on in Sk/Snowboard since 2008. It'll shiver your timbers.
Lethbridge, AB, this morning at 9 a.m. was -33 C with a wind chill of -46. That's -50 F for the non metrics.
Yeah, I know. It's not cold until it's REALLY cold somewhere other than were you live. 3 this morning when I went to feed the animals. 11 now but the sun is shining. Very pretty and very brisk.

Isn't it cool that at -40 Celsius and Fahrenheit are equal? Yes, I'm a bit of a nerd.
Forecast for - 36 tonight in Bow Valley. Today was going to be my first day back on skis. Fuck that. Drinking cider and pulling binders off old skis.
I went to open the hatch on my Subie this morning and both hatch struts exploded and the tailgate smacked me in the head enough to lay me out on the street. Have a giant egg on my head now!
72 now. 74 tomorrow.
Supposed to get to like 28 one night next week so bundle up!
Fuck all snow around here and a bit cold, I got a chance to do paid indoor work so when you don't work very much ... work when you get the chance
The Nat'l Weather Service has issued a "special weather statement" for my area. Minus 25 windchill Friday to Sunday. Oh joy, this will be a new experience for me. Can't wait.
Our local weather guy was a little excited tonight when he was giving the forecast. Watch-out for frostbite! Bring in your pets! Make sure your livestock has shelter and water! Not a common event for these parts.
Damn, because of the cold? That sucks. Ouch.
I went to put a box in the allroad the other day, popped the hatch, turned and picked up the box, turned back to put it in the back and caught the edge of the hatch right across the bridge of my nose - I didn't know that one of the struts is broken so now it only lifts the hatch like halfway. That hurt.
19 degrees in October. It ain't right, it just ain't right.
