Any of you have a rec for a kickass model or a DIY build?
I've got a few wrist rockets and a buddy of mine just got a handcarved alder Y that is gorgeous.
I plunked a lot of shit this summer and now keep one in my truck with ammo always at the ready.
Would have been way cooler if it was real.
yup... fun stuff, busting up beer cans all afternoon.
for elastics, I've been using physio bands or tubes, thera-band.
check out Flippinout slingshots. Those $30-40 polymer units look good.
hand carved fork from hardwood tree works well.
or cut from 3/4" plywood, multiply birch.

I still have a deformed and badly stunted left thumb from childhood improper use of wrist rocket.
Hit my own thumb with 3/4" ball bearing that I was was firing.
Was so terrified about my mother's reaction to my ownership of said slingshot that I successfully kept smashed and twisted thumb secret from her for about twenty years.

You can usually find them pretty cheap at dollar stores and such.

Before we graduated to wrist rockets, we used to make our own with a coat hanger, piece of tree branch for handle, rubber bands and then hole punch the patch from a pair of of our sears toughskins. Crude but effective. Took less than a day to put me in the emergency room with an eye injury.
I knew some guys who bodyguarded a big rock star. They carried slingshots and ball bearings so they didn't wake the neighbors in case they had to take someone down (or out) for sneaking onto the estate.
My cousins lived near by the tracks outside of Buffalo, near the Lackawanna works (Bethlehem Steel Mill) and the big Ford assembly plant. Taconite + brand new Fords on railcars + wrist rockets = ohhhh shit.Quote:

I shared a wrist rocket with mh brother growing up. We used 3/4" ball bearings for ammo. That thing was for real.
Used to think Wrist Rockets were thy shit until I got into crossbows.
Used to think crossbows were the shit until I got into catapults!! :D
Never did get that Northern Exposure type of piano-flinging catapult working though...but we sure as hell tried!!! :D

Ya we did that too. When I was a kid we could buy wrist rockets for like a dollar and cherry bombs were 25 cents at these stores that were around. I got my dad hauled away by thugs for questioning for putting a stone through a neighbor's window once. Important guy apparently. It wasn't entirely intentional, the tree I was aiming at was close to the window... Pretty wild though thugs were fanning out, women were screaming.. I hid then ran, then got spotted.
