Oh man, my wife is going to kill me but i just have to have them. Trigger pulled on Ebay today. Was going to take a gracious maggot up on his offer to lend me a pair for AK, but then i realized it will be the last big powder board i need for a LONG time. Whats done is done. Time to hunt down some bindings with big brakes.

I know the Spat has unique dimensions and camber but the Maden ski's pretty awesome in powder.

Or let's say I'm going to be doing top to bottom runs at Mammoth. I want a fat ski for the pow/corn up top; but once I hit the long groomers at the bottom, having traditional sidecut is nice. So the Gotamas get the nod there.
However, Spats are probably the best crust/mank/crud/heavy snow ski in the world. So when I know things are going to be skied out or the weather is going to warm up and set the snow up, it's the Spats no question.
As for a straight up pow day? I flip a coin.
Is there a lot of overlap? Sure. But there are micro-niches that each fill.
Plus, you should just own a set of Spatulas. Regardless of what your quiver is. They're so much fun.

Awesome call dude. I love mine whenever the going gets a little technical because they're so easy to just spin around, rarely do you need to jump turn with them (great for tight chutes or trees). They do have a speed limit though, and beyond it they feel a little unstable but never wobbly and wandering like traditional skis do. Have fun on 'em.

i have both the kahunas (same as made 'n ak, diff top sheet) and the spats...I will defer to Arty50's post on where/when to ski ea, as its similar...bottom line: if ya can afford 'em, buy 'em...they will all be gone soon as they are no longer being produced.Quote:
