Youth. It's overrated. Congrats Mikaela. :yourock:

That is now 3 first places on the year! Tied for most WC wins by a pre-18 year old.
Crushing it!
She's got a real shot at the WC SL globe this year. Amazing.
Great NYT article
Thanks Tye! Great article. Fantastic kid!
Great that the young lady has hit her stride.
BUT
A 17 year old girl with national media attention, this never ends well.
Poor thing
Read about her MTT. She is very grounded, even starstruck at her competitors whom she is now beating.
I read it. You think the press is going to treat her differently?
That awe shucks thing will not last long. From what I read she sounds like a very impressive young woman. And it appears a pretty solid familly?
Or have they built (Universal Skier)
I just don’t like that the media looks to be ramping up to throw the Celebrity laser on her. Let see how that all goes
I know a mag that was her science teacher back in the day. She's killing it this year.
Proud to have been her first grade teacher! She was ripping it at age 7 too!
Slalom globe would be awfully impressive for her first full season of WC
So proud of Mikaela! She was a great student in my class back in the day at Vail. Just a great all around kid who deserves all of this. Hope I get the chance to congratulate her in person some time.
FYI: Ross teaches upper school. Mikalea moved just after finishing second grade at VMS.
Thanks Mr Rippinstick! His students are fortunate ! Ross & I were room mates / house mates in college and in Vail. Many fond memories...love it when we get the chance to visit & catch up. Ross is my number two premium branded friend, all-time lifetime (Mrs anemic being #1). I really miss him. ( < understatement)

Back on track - How 'bout it? Mikaela Shiffrin...WORLD CHAMP!!!
How about season champ and a World Cup Globe in the slalom for the barely 18 year old. She overcame a 1.17 second deficit in the second run to win the championship. Maze was leading after the first run but couldn't match Mikaela's pace in the second run. Maze was also leading the standings by 7 points going into the race. The season came down to the last race and the kid won. Now it's back to high school for the rest of the semester. She is supposed to be on Letterman Tuesday night and the Today show Wednesday morning.
nothing short of amazing! Congrats to the youngun'
move over lindsey vonn, you are no longer the face of US skiing.
^She will be the face until mainstream news (ESPN, Fox, etc) grabs a hold of this story. Still havent seen anything on the news about it garnering the coverage she deserves. Ted had a fabulous season as well

the pics show it all
a beautiful and amazing young lady
we should all be proud
So damn impressive. Skilled way beyond her years.

That is an epic highlight reel. This young lady is incredibly inspiring.
Schweeeeeet
Congrats! Way to get after it.
Way cool. No doubt the USSA/USOC PR team had a good story ready to feed the NYT, but it does sound like she's a good kid IRL. I think her mom being on tour helps to keep her grounded.
I always dig the pure joy and lack of drama from ladies like J Mancuso and Shiffrin - a REALLY nice change from the Dramafest that accompanies LV.
Amazing season and an unbelievable 2nd run.
MS will be a guest on Letterman tonight (Tues 19-March).
