So as we all know, the weather in the east has sucked thus far. Was planning on heading up to VT this weekend but there is an ugly low pressure system churning its way north with rain, rain, rain, and (hmm) a bit more rain.
What to do??

i didn't vote. i guess it depends on if it really rains, or if it kinda rains or if it snows a little. and how far do you have to drive?
if you don't go it will most likely snow, so i would aprieciate it if you stayed put.
I can tell you this, they are constantly chaning the forecast up here. I don't hink they really know what it is going to do. It seems like the temps will be borderline and a couple degrees in either direction is going to make a huge difference. Elevation will also play a huge factor in what actallu falls from the sky this weekend.
My advise. Wait until Friday to make you decision. Have everything ready to go and be willing to make a last minute decision. If you want you can PM me Fri night. Chances are I will check the board Fri afternoon and eve and I can give you a current report of what is happening.
Well basom, points for your honesty (not that I blame you!).
Figure ~8 hour drive up on Friday and a 5 hour drive home on Sunday.
Costs incurred: gas, meals, lodging, lift tix, beers
Plan was to stay in the Southern half of the state. I've driven up a few times before in similar weather patterns and lucked out once when it turned to snow. Most times though, it kept raining.
Stellar advice.Quote:

If you go you'll have to accept the fact that it might suck.
If you don't go you'll have to accept the fact that you might be forced to kick yourself in the ass repeatedly while it nukes over the hills and you're on the couch watching daytime tv.
Sick and ashamed and happy (and didn't vote either),

mildbill is your man for risk exposure analysis. he will give you a definitive answer to if you should do this. i know what he's going to say though, and its no.

From the Mt. Snow email distribution....
Good Morning this is Dan with your 6:00 Mount Snow snow report for Thursday December 9h. Mount Snow has had a great week; we've had some natural snow from Mother Nature and our team of snowmakers and groomers took advantage to expand our trail count earlier this week. We continue to have 12 trails open, with top to bottom skiing and riding for all abilities on a machine groomed/frozen granular surface. We've got steep speed runs, as well as long and windy cruisers. Mount Snow has over 50 years of experience and our awesome team of snowmakers and groomers will be working hard to continue expanding the trail count for you. Last night we made snow on 7 of our unopened trails and anticipate dropping the ropes on them shortly. Let's not forget that Mount Snow also has one of the best and only terrain parks in the east right now, our very own Un Blanco Gulch. The park has a bunch of fun features for you to check out; For nice and easy grinding we've got some low-key mailbox rails and two fun flat boxes, not too overwhelming and perfect if you're just starting to grind or simply need to get the rust out for the coming season. For a challenge we've got a trap box, a couple flat rails, a rainbow rail, and a little hit at the end of the run to catch some air on. Definitely get down to Mount Snow if parks are your thing, Currently at the base of Mount Snow we're at 28 degrees with a summit temp of 21. Winds for today will be milder than we've seen this week. Direction will be out of the Northwest at 10-16mph, with summit winds coming in at 12-20. Skies for today will be partly sunny and should remain that way for the next few days. That'll do it for your snow report; again we've got 12 trails open today with 4 lifts to get you there. See you on the slopes!
look for me and bill.Quote:

Any opinions on conditions at Jay? Anyone live that far north?
Trying to convince my brother to drive up friday night. He's not so game and keeps on pointing out that "wintry mix" (when reported by Jay itself) really means "rain". I am more optimistic, but I need some evidence to convince him.
Skinning up saddlebags on saturday morning, some maine maggots should come with. What NOAA sez: THE POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR MORE THAN 6 INCHES OF SNOW FRIDAY NIGHT AND
SATURDAY.
She's got potential, ya gotta give her credit for trying.
Up at the loaf this morning, its in decent shape. Soft groomers, stuff is filling in nicely, I was able to duck into some trees for a few turns. We need a few storms that are all snow, and we'll be good to go.
I'll be around Stowe on Saturday.
From my better side I look like this
I'll be on Inspired's. Or LPs. Or some demos. So that doesn't help much. Planning on being there at opening, but Friday night plans include a sorority "holiday" party....so we'll see.
buddies said it was decent last weekend. pretty much everything on state side is open. glades are closed but they skied them all day.Quote:

Jay may luck out and stay cold enough. If you go anywhere south of Stowe I'd say better bring the rain gear.
