GT40 ER TR / camp opening
GT40 and I went up to basin this morning, early, to start harvesting the goods. Lap after lap of untracked creamy windblown was had, and after about four laps baseWeldr caught up with us. Up Porky, down through the deep trees, and on to the bottom. At the city hill/chicken springs split, I headed down city hill.
The city hill route takes all of 20 seconds to straightline to the bottom, so when GT hadn't arrived after a few minutes, something seemed off. baseWeldr said he went to the right instead of down city hill, but it still isn't much longer that way.
Just then a guy skied up to the lift ops and said someone had fallen and needed help over by wildcat. A little worrisome. A few minutes later we asked for a description of the person who was hurt; the "really fat skis and an orange helmet" was dead on, we knew it was GT.
After trying to get up to GT via little cat and watching him ski down below us, I caught up with him in the ski patrol building. Diagnosis: broken wrist.
Luckily we had carpooled so we didn't have to leave a car behind, and I drove slooowly (didn't want to add an accident to the list) down the snowpacked roads to the hospital.
Checked in to the ER, etc. and the waiting began. When they called me back GT was on one of those cool little roller bed things with his wrist on ice, waiting for an x-ray. Once they had a look at it, we were sent up to a plastic surgeon hand specialist type guy, where we proceeded to fill out more paperwork and wait again.
The diagnosis from doc #2: dislocated wrist, small fractures, torn ligaments (I think, maybe it was tendons). Surgery required to fix everything, basically put the wrist back into its proper position and use pins to hold the ligaments in place while healing in a cast.
Surgery is scheduled for tomorrow. Hopefully GT will be skiing at the mini, but he said for now to post about what happened and to offer his place in str8line's camp up for reassignment.
Any good vibes sent his way would be appreciated, I'm sure. :)
