Looks like it's going to be a timing issue. Wednesday looks very wet, but a lot of that is going to be rain. Hopefully the moisture sticks around as the freezing levels plummet into Thanksgiving and into the weekend.
Going to Olympia for the weekend...currently at half a stock
anybody up for Baker this weekend? I'm thinking of going.
be there on sunday.
This weekend is supposed to be good on Hood. Even SkiBowl (elev. 3500-5500) is planning on being opened.
hopefully i'll be yelling 'blue 22....blue22...huthuthike!!!'
i will be recovering from post fritschi binding failure. no skiing for me.
I'm waiting on the snow. No committment yet, but pending on the outcome of Wed-Saturday- I could be anywhere from Hood to Whistler (but more likely if it stays rainy and warm....stuck in Seattle  )
maybe if i go up in the mountains and rip out my icy cold heart i can bring the freezing temps down for all of us?
7500 foot freezing level? Great. Just great.
Alright, just ordered my Karma185's, so it better snow like a mofo in Baker this year. Hopefully I can hook up with a few of the pnw maggots this season.....
stoked for 04/05,
Mike
Thanksgiving forecast:
Myers forecasts the only sunny spots to be in the Southwest, northern Plains and Florida. "Everybody else is going to get into something," he said.
On the East Coast, residents will wake to a nice day, only to see it degrade into heavy afternoon and evening rain from Washington to New York. Airports could be affected in Baltimore, Maryland, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
According to Myers' forecast:
The South will see heavy rains throughout the day, with thick fog expected in the morning. The worst weather will stretch from Louisiana to Georgia.
A 70-mile-wide band of snow is expected to cover parts of the Midwest, slowing traffic along Interstate 70 and the I-80/90 corridor in Ohio and Indiana.
And on the West Coast, Seattle, Washington, and Portland, Oregon, can expect to get soaked.

FREEZING LEVELS WILL RISE TO BETWEEN 8000 AND 9000 FEET MSL ON WED...SO THE GOOD NEWS FOR THOSE HEADING ACROSS THE CASCADE PASSES ON WED IS THAT SNOW AND ICE WILL NOT BE A CONCERN. INSTEAD...HEAVY RAIN AND HYDROPLANING WILL BE THE MAJOR CONCERN. WILL NEED TO BE ON THE WATCH FOR FLOODING AS WELL. RAIN COULD LIGHTEN UP BRIEFLY ON WED EVENING BEFORE THE MOIST AND ACTIVE COLD FRONT SAGS DOWN FROM THE NORTHWEST LATER WED NIGHT AND EARLY THU MORNING. THANKSGIVING DAY WILL FEATURE IMPROVING CONDITIONS OVER THE LOWLANDS...THOUGH POST-FRONTAL LAPSE RATES WILL BE STEEP ENOUGH TO SUPPORT SCATTERED SHOWERS. SNOW LEVELS WILL FALL QUICKLY BACK DOWN BELOW PASS LEVELS WITH A FEW INCHES OF WELCOME THANKSGIVING DAY SNOW EXPECTED OVER THE UNSEASONABLY BROWN-LOOKING MTNS.
At least the last couple sentences are promising.
Me: "Bad news, grrr jr. Baker may be closed for the weekend because of rain."
Grrr jr: "Can we go somewhere else?"
Me: Well, Whistler may be open."
Grrr jr: "What about Jackson Hole?"
Me: "That's a bit too far to drive for the weekend."
Grrr jr: " We could fly."

Looking on the bright side, the intially warm temps and rain could be good for he backcountry in that it may help destroy any old facets that may be forming from the 3 weeks of mostly high press and cold temps. The warm snow helps to bond to the old stuff too.
At any rate we need snoooooow!
WTF? This is so painful. 3 to 5 INCHES of fuggin' rain in the mountains with possibly 3 inches of snow on the tail end. Instead of 3 to 5 feet of what we need, we get a bitchslapping and then back to high pressure next week.
:cussing: :cussing:  :cussing: :cussing:
At least on the positive side it's not going to rain as much in Whistler and instead snow about 15-30cm
Fri-Sat will bring more than 2 inches, I bet.
arghhh i really hate tis time of year..
fk
Should have went to baker last sun. wha the hell was I thinking..
maby I can convince the gf to go to whistler this weekend..
hmm..
anway at least the ski movies last weekend were good. nice to meet some of you guys btw..
this hurts my feelings. :nonono2:
Welcome to wa in the fall
pff, I'm staying positive. I think the rain helps make a perfect base - settles the existing snow and consolidates it, better for not hitting rocks.Quote:

Hello Snowriders!
The snow is coming, but first, a big rain
Wednesday will see high snow levels and tons of rain in the mountains. Expect snow levels to be 7000-8000ft. Ahhh, I hate when that happens. But don't worry as a cold front will move in by late Wednesday into Thanksgiving Day and that will bring the snow level down to 3000ft. I love when that happens.
Expect low snow levels continuing Thursday into the weekend. Unfortunately it won't snow enough to open the slopes, at least initially. I think we'll pick up several inches of new everyday into Sunday, but slowly a dry pattern developing. Be happy a low level snow pattern is setting up - at that point we need a shot of moisture for a big dump. But right now, I don't see the moisture.
Happy holidays and get ready to ride, get ready to ski!

The girls at Mt. Baker are pretty confident they'll open back up on Friday. At least that's what they tell me, but they've been known to whisper sweet nothings in my ear before.
Friday morning when I've finished getting gas at the chevron station at I-5 and Hiway 20, I'll pick up my cell phone and make the decision between Baker or Whistler.
