Finally....

Earl
...'bout time.
Just put in a 8 1/2 hour marathon sesh yesterday at higgins and Gooches, both aspect were protected from the hard NE winds with 7ft waves, great surf, tons of rides.
can't wait for that slutty whore Danielle to get here. already got sun-weds off!
Yesterday and today looked pretty sweet. But you're right here it comes! I was at Rye Bch this morning with the dog and the place was packed! I'm just learning to surf and although I will enjoy such days in the years to come I'm still on the bunny slope! Enjoy!
Gonna be windy down here. Sunday may be good, before NE winds pick up. We'll see. I got shafted by Colin...little bastard.

Looks like it is gonna suck back East. Finally looks like you are gonna get yours.
I already posted these in the EC Roll call...But it makes sense to post here also.. Just spent a couple days in Maine getting my surf fix, wish i could have stayed longer. Hope someone gets some pics when Danielle gets closer... A friend took these of me on Tuesday.

HA: Nice! Shots look Goochsesque?
MPPG: Probably saw you in the water at Higs - when were you out? I put in a couple hours in the morning and thought it seemed a bit off.
I think the key this weekend will be avoiding the crowds, as the weather looks like it will be great too, and winds might cooperate nicely.
Dude, I saw you, for sure - think I might have even said hi? On a big blue longboard, and I'm also bald. Yes, I am thinking mid-coast.
Nice, little impromptu mini surf summit. I'd shoot ya a PM next time I'm in the neighborhood. just for shits and giggles

[QUOTE=My Pet Powder Goat;2958102]I thought Gooch too! steep, hollow, beach break.
Gooches it was....
Fauck. I miss Maine.
I'm telling you. Timber Island. Just Saying. Worth a look see.
I have been shooting in the nasty weather for the last 5 days...finally the wind went offshore...these were shot today in NH.
my intention is not to spam, but the rest are posted on

Sick pics. Don't see people getting barrel'd at the wall often:eek: Man, I should have stuck around for an AM'r
Looks like we may have Jinxed ourselves again with this one... latest models have her staying a little more to the east. It Still should be good, but I want HuDge AND good!
no jinx. You have a pretty kind set up. Earl will be running up I already churned up waters and further east. Besides this morning's run has an interesting retrograde. Hell, maybe not Gabrielle perfect, buit should be pretty good considering then summer you've had.
I don't remember Joey. But it was 15+ years since I was in those parts. Most of the names are gone, but the faces I recall.
Btw, I could edt my post. I just figured it was still no where land. Most of the best spots further south beteeen York and Kbunk still never get surfed
and are in plain sight. Last time I was around, a Wells local told me
Firehouse was never surfed because it was believed to be too much of a paddle and shollow rocks. And this is the best ledge north of rye. Might even be better.
Shit's going to be

Looks like RI will be the place to be for Earl. Perhaps starting Thursday. LI may be too far west to get the best, and Earl may be too far west to get much north of the cape (according to this morning's run of the models). On the plus side, he is looking to stay strong as he drives up the coast. May be a stormy next weekend for NE.
The LI bouy has a spectral of 2.1@12.5. That should be a good chest high wave. And tht profile looks so clean.

And this map suggest some swell filling in today

Gulf of ME buoy forecast shows some mid period all week

Best of luck with the fill in and glassy waters. And a verbal report from a friend in ME. He had fun earlier today.
thursday morning was really good at the wall despite fucked up bars. thank god there was enough size at a lower tide for the outer bars to really work.
this morning was super fun at the honey hole with just a few of us out with long little rippable hittable zipper lefts. around the point tho wuz a zoo!
back for more in the am. same spot, lost round nose fish weapon of choice. nice pics from thurs btw!

Today was much, much better in Maine than either of the weekend days. Swell finally seems to have shown up, and winds were quite cooperative this morning. On Saturday am, I counted 80 plus people in the water. Crowds much more manageable today.
^ EC is nuts.
check out my buds site...go to the 'surf report/cams'. cam is of the 'wall' in nh.

surfed from 730-1030 this morning, not at the wall. surf was def better than the weekend and was close to on par with thursday morning. 1st hour this morning it was just me and another guy in the whole cove then by 930 there were a whole 6 of us and that's as busy as it got. the weekend? shit there were a dozen at times, wtf?:D
great morning. maybe more tonight after a mid day mtb ride.
get it!

My local beach (west of the river mouth) was fun this weekend. Saturday was a bit bigger, with lots of chest-to-shoulder faces, and 12ish second periods. You could see easily see bigger sets on the horizon and track them as they came in. The water was the clearest I've seen it outside of winter -- in 10' of water over the bar's outer edge, it looked waist deep. You could see sand dollars and fish in the trough in front of you.
Yesterday was smaller (chest) but a whole lot cleaner, long long glassy faces, with periods of about 15 secs. The sandbar in the middle of the bay is the best it's been in a few years. It was also the biggest crowd of surfers I've ever seen at this beach: 8 people at one point.
(Yeah, on days like this I'm glad I moved away from Higgamea Bay.)
holy crap was it fun today. sets in the several feet overhead range, pushing DOH on a couple, and wind offshore. quite a surprise based on the forecasts.
Lurking for ME wave stoke, Yeti, without blowing the whistle on your locale, any pics?
anyone been to small point?
Really?? I left last night, after the forecast was calling for a quick fall off today, shitballs again!
Surfed a little on sun night, and literally almost sliced off my dick and gored myself with one of my fins trying to dodge a Barney floundering in the whitewash at the wall.
Monday i surfed all day at jennish, and a couple hours at the wall for sunset, they were definitely getting bigger at dark
met the mag Breakwater by coincidence too. "save Magic mountain" stickers always deserve a good "change for a nickel?":yourock:
see ya'll for earl, looks like it could be HUDGE in RI for sure!
No joke. Swell is definitely showing up late apparently, and all the forecasts are completely missing it.
Yesterday was ok, but today puts yesterday to shame in terms of size.
Sturgeon were jumping all over the place today, and even a shark made an appearance in the lineup, spooking several folks.
Same thing happened to me last night on a late drop at a reef in the area, except the slice was across my lower ass - right through the suit.Quote:

Mypetpowdergoat has a nice frothy seaweed beard.
:yourock:
The sandbars at 10th street at the wall are fucked up.
This, was not the wall.
And that swell was a succubus.
surfed a spot north of the wall and south of jenness this morning:cool: and, well, for the past few days. had the whole place to myself till just 2 others joined me. solid head high/bigger sets with many shutting the whole place down. plenty of long peelers too with a LOOOOOONG paddle back out. so nice to barely have to paddle to get into em, some good power fer sure.
back to the same spot in the a.m.
have fun out there!

Report came in from the buds. O rivermouth at mid tide today. Too much water moving for it at low. Reports of 16 sec periods. OMG! I've said it before. TI. Perhaps even Moody Point has a chance.
After another crappy day at work, and reports coming in, I so miss vacationland.
Great time for me to get sick with some bug and miss some more sessions...ugh. More reports of how good yesterday pm was, and it seems like it is still on this morning, but a touch smaller.
Now we'll have to see what Earl brings.
I was thinking about the swell arrival, forecast and the such.
I beleive many of the forecast look at the location of the storm, its intensity, and build a forecast from there. This was a relatively fast moving storm. I think it generated a long period swell a few days ago, when it was down toward Bermuda. The storm moved faster than the swell, and as it approached you received short period swell before the long period swell. The forecasters discounted the long period swell.
I think that is one of the challenges with predicting hurricane swell, along with the pulse nature of a hurricane. If you look at the charts from a few days back, you can see a distinct oval shape, which would suggest a pulse. Then, as the storm pulled up the coast, it lost some of its shape.
Peterslovo. Bummer. But at least you don't have my job.
