Maggot Success Stories

Two things stand out for me. Two stories that have wound through the years and come to fruition for the hard-working souls behind them. I had nothing to do with any of them, but I enjoyed following their stories and seeing their success. So let's give it up for...

Splat and the crew at PM Gear. From a fuzzy idea bounced around the internet, to the first Kevlar Gloves sold at a special rate to the maggots, and now onwards to a production ski that is sure to grace slopes across the world on the feet of some of the rippingest skiers around. Congrats for making this dream come true and sharing your infectious energy and love for the sport.

Mr. Gunderson and the Baker crew. So cool to see your images in every issue of Powder this year. Can remember when you first started posting your pics on the Powder board, looking to break in and make it work. I remember the words of encouragment you recieved and the general feeling that it was just a matter of time. That time has come and your pics speak for themselves. Congrats on capturing the beauty of our obsession.

I too look through every mag I get to check out the maggot presence within. Maggotdom is becoming a growing force. Viva le Maggots!

Here's a success story I'd like to read: Maggots changing the market to make skiing cheaper and more accessible to all, not just WASPs.

If the Bro Models hold up to the hype surrounding them, it will be a HUGE step in that direction.

Too bad this thread is being overlooked by the others (lamenting the end of the world due to the election). I'm grateful for a positive thread today! So cool that we've been able to witness such great happenings from relatively humble beginnings. Who'd of thunk it?
The stoke and positive vibes need to return -- and hopefully SOON! It was so much fun to come in here and get charged up following and getting involved in the various maggot exploits... but lately it's just been vicious character assassinations due to varoius political idealogies... it just hasn't been much fun around here recently!
As Alka said in another post... let's get back to the stoke!

I remember reading something about how Warren Miller and Jason Levintahl (dude who started line) came out in support of reducing the cost of skiing, and making it more accesible to the masses instead of driving resorts towards ultra elite places like vail and aspen, where people can not afford to go skiing. Think with tickets prices sky-rocketing, like $70+ day tickets It's obvious, isn't it?

I agree that Maggots are doing this sport a huge labour of love. We have created a community, although harsh towards beginers (JONGS), and shown that we can be a factor of the industry, rather than just listening to pro's control the sport. We are the grassroots. We have the powder. Fuck my rambling and snow already!

Schmear and AspectJournal.com Things seem to be taking off with this site and the amount of work that Schmear has put into conceptualizing, designing, editing, writing, and just about every other -ing word you can think of is unfathomable...especially when you consider its currently nothing but a labor of love thang. so cool...hopefully the write up in Powder will add to its success.

Maggot Summits

I only made it to one of them, but getting that many people together from across the world to ski is incredible. It was amazing to me how so many people could come together without really knowing each other.

A big thanks to all the folks who put together lodging, events at bars, etc.

Nice thread.

I think there have been other smaller successes as well. People have graduated from college, had children, married, hooked up (industry and love), and even managed to get really cool jobs. One that stands out for me is my buddy Freak is finally a municipal fireman. Something he has wanted to do forever. Lots of good stuff happening here.

Aren't we forgetting about a guy who never sleeps?

How about the boy wonder, Mr. Meat Drink 9, who dodged the nether world of this dreay burb (STL) for D-town to do what he loves for big dollars, also gets recognized for his ridiculous aerial exploits by folks who matter throughout the ski world, thereby procurring boards and ski threads (no pun intend.), designs the flagship PMGear board's (again, no pun) topsheet, and now will begin producing crazed inebriated primate children with his beautiful, patient bride.

I was thinking about what a cool community this is last week. Then everybody started talking politics and it started to get kinda ugly. Then I realized that is just part of the community. People speaking their piece. Now we're back to playing nice. I'm really looking forward to going out and playing in the snow with you folks :)

Hey Owens, thanks for letting this run free and not over moderating like so many other boards. Also, GET US SOME PICS OF THE PASS WHEN THE WEATHER BREAKS! :cool:

And another bump...for ONS, frozenwater, Schmear and all others who are killin' it and making it work. Thanks for the inspiration!

Don't forget the guy who helped all those disabled people, produced a fascinating website detailing the inside dope on one of Canada's leading ski resorts, served his country honourably and outed Rod Stewart as a homosexual. Big love.

Been away from the intrawebby thingy for the last few weeks as I didn't have a connection while starting my new jobby job as a firefighter. Anyway....the force is strong of the board it is [/yoda].

This place never ceases to amaze me. While away, some good maggot buddies have really pulled through on a up and coming maggot project that should be completed sometime this winter.....stay tuned. Thanks MT and fez.

What up pat! Yeah man, I still can't hardly believe it. The job offer came at me like a flaming meteor from outer space. I started applying this year and expected it to take a few years. Something clicked with the department and in the interview. I'm now a FF in Mizzzzoula! Gonna miss the skiing of SW montana, but its a small price to pay. My schedule is gonna kick ass as soon as i'm done w/ training at the end of this year - 4 days on (10 hr, 10 hr, 14 hr night shift and another 14 hr THEN 4 DAYS OFF) :D :fm:

I remember one JONG-ish MirCat who became a bc goddess after hanging around the old Pmag board. Another guy lived essentially out of his truck in Kicking Horse. Look at Divegirl - she wasn't a skier at the start of last season, but now she's hitting the steeps and jumpin' cornices and stuff as a direct result of this board. Those are success stories in my book.

I know I would never have dropped anything taller then my height if it weren't for meeting up with people from this board, and I probably wouldn't have done any bc skiing without this place. Those are a few of my success stories.

This thread got me remembering the good old days at Ski Chatter where we started selling skis to the likes of Natty Dread, Grizz, Q-bert, Summit Co. NuSkooler, Punani (though I think you were Johnny Bravo back then). Your passion for the product and company we were trying to build, carried us for a few insane seasons. It was amazing how quickly things moved off the board. We started selling to many many people who had never even been on the message board, but had heard from friends of friends about us. Very cool...b
