Either way this is a :yourock: stoke post Buster.
Yeah BOY!!!
Careful out there.
That picture is lower RopedeeDope. I think the speed skiing was done further up the basin, viewer's left in the Main Couloir below Storm Peak.Quote:

Word is some big ones, class 3 or 4, were releasing last week.
Word is also that the coverage is over 10 feet deep of dense base up off the top, sticking to the cliffs. Sounds like a great base.
  :eek:you mean directly below those cliff bands???  :eek:Quote:

Fuck you for your glib attitude with an issue as serious as this.
We should all be reporting our encounters with the snowpack for the education and benefit of others, for their safety as well as our own. Unless you are an alias of an existing poster, you would seem to be new around here, in which case I'll take this opportunity to distinguish this board from others as a place populated by real people, who spend their time together in the mountains, at each others homes, helping in time of need, and celebrating in time of joy. Yeah, we spray at each other plenty too, but it's only because lots of us have desk jobs that keep us in front of the interweb when we'd rather be skiing.
So.
To re-iterate. Engage in legitimate dialogue if you're going enter on a topic as serious as avalanche activity, or fuck off. Alternatively, if glib is all you can do, how about you stick to the subjects that aren't life and death? That works too. I pass no judgement other than my own, which is worth 1/nth of a community made up of n-1 other members here, not more, not less. And I judge on the basis of only that which you present, which thus far, hasn't impressed me much. So, how about you start talking and change my mind?
Sorry for the rant in your pretty thread Buster. I'll see you in Silverton this winter.
Didn't read all your rant there, little fella,
but usually if someone wants to know more, they respond with "Didn't know that. Do you have more any info..."
instead, with you, its "Let ME tell YOU how and what to think."
Pompous jerk.
Do you have any more info on the slide of which you speak?
I'd love to hear more, perhaps you can leave me some informative words for when I return from skiing tomorrow am - can't wait for them right now, gots to get to sleep.
By the way, you will see that people get just what they deserve around here. I responded fully in-kind to your first post; go back and read what you wrote and imagine how it sounded to someone who doesn't know you. I am no more a pompous jerk than you, although that may mean we're both pompous jerks.
You will, case in point, notice that now that you've actually written something vaguely pleasant (well, closer, anyway, save for the pompous jerk thing), I am taking the time to respond in the same coin!
We have people from this community that are in SW CO quite frequently. Any information you can share would be appreciated, I'm sure.
Heh. I do still find this a bit ironic though, don't you? Goodnight, Tiny.Quote:

For some, giving a little infomation can actually be worse than no information at all. And using second hand information, as I provided here, to base any BC decision is a rook move at best.
edit - not from SW colorado; I wish
Then why bother saying anything at all in the first place Tiny? Why open with "Word has it that someone got taken for a ride" in response to Buster's thread if you're not going to say more than what can be gotten by reading Pinner's link to the Durango Herald.Quote:

Also, not to intrude on a pissing match, but giving the status of the poor bastard caught in the avy is just common courtesy. If s/he's hurt or dead you should give your condolences. Even if you don't mean it. Once again, common courtesy.
It smells like troll in here, but it's late and I'm feeling gullible.Quote:

He didn't tell anybody what to think. Rather, I think he echoed the sentiments of most people on here. That is the fact that we take this sort of thing very seriously.
I think you should go beat your chest somewhere else. Your pissing on an otherwise inspiring and informative thread.
Didn't see the link above - not so good on the internet. But at least I gave you the aspect, elevation etc.Quote:

Let me guess - you'll find some TG and then some crust and then looser snow and then some firmer snow and then the new snow. And it will all be white.
I apologize if you took it as making light. That was not my intent - all I said was that someone got taken for a ride. There is no judgement in that statement, unlike Yossarrin's followup to my post. Maybe I just misinterpted his response, but I don't think so.Quote:

(me not an expert either)
Well, this thread has gone to hell, but I thought I'd toss in some info. Two of my friends went down to the San Juans last Monday, and came back pretty scared. Lots of wind loading, shooting cracks, whumphing, pretty much everything you don't want in the backcountry. It's still early season - be careful.
From the Colorado Avalanche Center:
"There has also been at least three backcountry skiers caught; one was partly buried and injured near Silverton.
A series of storms since mid September left behind a shallow snow cover that in places has become weak and sugar-like (faceted grains). Recent snows and strong winds have created pockets of both soft and hard slab avalanche conditions, especially at higher elevations and on the north- to east-facing slopes and gullies, though any steep and recently wind-drifted slope is suspect. Triggered avalanches are possible."
