Heli Gold Pass???

I remember that sometime last season (or maybe the season before) there was a thread on Powder about a heli Gold pass... unlimited lifetime heliskiing for $50K or something. Do I remember that correctly? If so, which company offers that, and is it still available? I have a friend who is interested. Thanks!

im pretty sure its like 250k instead of 50k, and i dont remember who does it - but i did see something about it recently. 50k would be a great deal, pays for itself in like 10 trips.

Holy crap. That's just about do-able if you get a loan. Nobody buys a house without a loan. If you put 5K down and financed the other $80,000 over 15 years at 4.75% you would only pay $622.27 per month. If you've got some industry tax angle all of that could be written off. So roughly $7,500 per year for a MONTH of heli-skiing and it's paid for in 15 years. And you get to deduct that $7,500 from your income so if you're taxed at 33% it's really like you're only paying 5K per year for a MONTH of heli-skiing. :eek: Somebody with more money and less responsibility than I needs to jump on this.

heh...I was running those same numbers through my head. paying for it is one thing....then you have to get the time off to use it :( Probably still worth for a week or two a year however, considering a full week of heli & lodging is prolly like 5K by itself.

there just better be some money back clause or something if they go out of business in a year or two or three ;)

Why not just buy a crappy little house nearby and spend 150K on the all access and just go heliskiing every freaking day!!? it would be worth it in the long run. Hmm i need to think about this

The best part is that it is fully transferable, and it's a month for two every year. So you get about 8 people together and for 10 grand you get a week of heli every year for the rest of your life. Who's in?

edit: I didn't look at it, but thats the way I remember reading it a while back.

ahh, if $ were no object! quesion: heli operations come and go, its a tough business to make $ in (just ask doug coombs)...what happens if you plunk down your $ and they go out of business?

Yep. Credit risk is the main problem. Cheaper than buying a lodge though. You could also buy it in a kids name (as it is fully transferable) and then they could use it for *their* lifetime ;)

Well, you need to keep in mind that the AK heli season is very short: last week of Feb till the end of April or first week of May at the most. That's it.

Also, you don't go every day. As the year goes on, you get a higher % of fly days (I ran much less than 50% during March last year,) but a generally lower quality of snow. (I've had 4 straight days of crust on dust, for example.)

Finally, no one is going to give you 4.75% on 5 grand down for 80K. You can get those kinds of loans for houses because there's something to repo.

But, as Feris says, "If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up... It's so choice..." :D

Yeah, but if you have a house already you can take out a credit line that is tax deductable...
