WWMD? Message board strategy

I play in an ultimate frisbee summer league. Our tournament is this weekend. We have an excellent team, poised to win it all. The league has a message board complete with smack talk. We lost a game pretty bad last week because we were short quite a few good players. That was great because we instantly dropped off the radar on the "who's the team to beat on saturday?" question. Somebody from the team that beat us just blew our cover though, mentioning that we were a tough match even with our two best players missing.

I've only posted on that board a couple times and no one knows who I am or what team I'm on. I was thinking about making a reasonable sounding post that would denounce our ability.

Should I do this in hopes that people will fall for it and think less of our team? ...or not with the possibility that further discussion regarding our team could come about?

Be humble. Say you're from the team and the team that beat y'all was very good and probably still would have taken you even with a full roster.

the most important thing at any ultimate tournament is to win the party. seriously, its all that counts.

if you lose every game, but spank every team there in boat races you've got braggin rights for the rest of the year.

if you win the games and the party, thats a bonus.

I'm no pro. Back in my hayday, I was a slurp, chug, finish guy. Usually about 8sec for two regulation keg cups. The key is the Rutland Grip.

My best event was the keg race. We had an 8 man team that could not be beat. We'd finish a 1/4 barrel without ever stopping the tap in about 25mins.

In school, we had an informal Friday afternoon league that lead to many a booting down on Church street.

Hey basom, what about winning the game after winning the boat race? +2?

I definitely plan on winning a boat race for every game we don't win. Count me out on anchor duty though.

It's an awesome league. It's competitive and laid back at the same time. Everybody plays hard and as a result no one gives anyone shit about anything.

Whether you win it all or lose every game, the tournament day is great. There's a party, drinking out of frisbees (5 beers in one disc; bet you didn't know that) and a championship game with full-on heckling. You can't go wrong.

okay, i'll nominate mildbill for anchormang then, you can be right before him. bill is a two second gulp, no joke.

our lax team had a ritual where you have to finish one of those huge britta pitchers in ten min, after your first goal as a team member. you can puke as much as you want, but you gotta get it all in in ten min. one game we had five kids score their first goals. more projectile vomiting i have not seen. some guys got lucky with an oly or pbr keg for the drink up. my buddy max did not, an gallon and a half of haystack black, ten min. looked like he was puking oil.

Could someone please take the time to define the term "Boat Race" in it's current sense? Is it similar to a "safety meeting," nd if so, how do you "Win?"

line up with your team (usually 5 to 7) face to face with the competiotin. each teamate with a beer. a starter (non biased) chugs a beer to start. as soon as he flips his cup onto his head the two firsts guys for each team chug. you work your way down the line and the fastest team wins.
DQ'ed for spilling or not finishing and dumping the beer on your head.

We used same rools sept you went down the line then back finishing with the first guy (or girl) two beer each. Hence the importance of the anchorman, he's gotta go back to back.

Anyone remember the video game Tapper. Two control, an up down joystick to move the bartender and a tap pull. The idea was to keep the patron satisfied or they'd beat your ass.

Anchorman - the details elude me. 2 teams, alternating turns to get all your quarters in the pitcher. When all your quarters are in the other team must drink the pitcher. You can't take your lips off the pitcher or your turn passes. The anchorman must finish whatever his team leaves. Is that right?

I think we used to play a variation that hand something to due with having to race somebody to get 3 quarters in a rock glass. Ever hear of that?

right. team of three. first two race to get quarters into pitcher, once one guy gets it in, the next two guys race to get quarters in. first team with three quarters in wins, and gets to choose the other teams anchor man (always choose the biggest pussy on the other team!) you et one drink per guy, anchorman has to finish in one continuous chug, you can't stop drinking.

the key is to be able to breathe through your nose while drinking, after you get that its a piece of cake (unless your teamates decide not to pull their wieght, those bitches)

We used to play anchorman vs. anchorman as far as getting the quarter in the pitcher. If you couldn't get the quarter in the pitcher, you had no one to blame but yourself for having to finish the pitcher. Other rules sound the same.

had to go check- my drivers (teebird, beast, valkyrie) hold about 3/4 beer. aviar putter just holds a full one... and they fly so much further than the big lids which I also love to throw... no boatraces yet at the golf tourneys I been to but I still practice like there is.

plenty of crowd crossover that I've seen, but they do sell lots of glass at "hippydisc" gatherings...
