84 in a 55. One more mile an hour would have been some serious points.
My first speeding ticket ever.
Do I just pay it and deal with potentially higher insurance, or admit guilt and beg for probation at sentencing?

Crappers, was it in MD or VA? I'm guessing its not Va because that would have been automatic wreckless and loss of your license.
Sure, blame it on the WRX and not your lead foot.
29 over isn't "serious points?"
I got slapped with 3 pts. for 17 over, I call that serious, since at 4 pts (in MI), your license goes bye-bye for a while.
It was in MD. 29 I think is 2 points - 30 would have been like 5.
Edit - Maryland Points:
Speeding over the Speed Limit
1 to 9 - 1 points
10 to 29 - 2 points
30 or greater or 20 or greater in 65 mph zone - 5 points
8 Points is license suspension.
can you go to court and go to traffic school instead?
I guess it is worth a try to beg.Quote:

I'll ask my boss when she gets back from court. I'm not too sure on how MD differs from VA ,but I'll find out for ya. What county were you in?
Baltimore County.Quote:

Link Antisocal referred me to when I got my speeding ticket last season.

Go for the trial by declaration option, if available.
"Sometimes I want to take a motherfucking pig, and shoot him in his motherfucking face"
I had an 82 in 55 - Balt. Cty.
I ended up eating the 2pts & fine. Not a marked increase in Insurance, and it'll be gone in a couple years.
How much was the ticket?
(You COULD go to Court & seeing that it's a first offense, the Judge will likely take a point off just because you made the effort to appear - But arm yourself with a good excuse anyways.)
;)
The ticket was $140, which seems pretty low. I have no excuse, other than when the WRX is going 84 it feels good.Quote:

I'd be screwed without my detector - Every morning on 70-E, I'm running between 80-90mph, from Frederick to 29S. I've been lucky.Quote:

$140 isn't too bad, considering. Bring the wife to Court with you, explain that she wasn't feeling well & you were in a rush to get back home. I'd bet money you get at least 1 pt knocked off. And if the cop doesn't post, there's no points. A pain in the arse going to Court, but better than paying the full 2 pts.
Spend the money on a Valentine 1.

I'd just pay it. I've gotten two tickets in my WRX. Thankfully, both were knocked down and each cost about $75. I don't know about points in Utah. You are right, 84 does feel like nothing. So does 110, except it sounds slightly louder.
The first time I got pulled over, it was for 80 in a 55 construction zone at 3 AM. The cop was nice, knocked it to 69 and didn't put the constuction zone. After giving me the ticket, he asked, "So, are those as fast as they look in the commercials." I tried not to be too much of a smartass, I mean he just pulled me over, so obviously they are fast. "Yep."
There is a stretch of I-215 along the bench from about 4500 S to 6200 S where the concrete has been milled. It's super smooth and I can take the WRX up to 125 and it's silent. Anyway, it's 3 AM on a Monday morning, and my foot is feeling heavy. 125 feels great, but I slow down as I approach a pickup truck. I don't like to pass people at very high speeds because you never know what they'll do. Around 6200 S, the road curves west and my exit is another three miles down the road. After I've made the turn, still cruising at about 85, I notice headlights that appear to be gaining on me. Uh oh. It can't be that pickup truck - he wasn't going fast enough. As I put my turn signal on as I reach my exit, the red and blue start flashing. What's the punishment for 125 in a 65?
First off, the cop is the same cop from my first ticket. It's been a few months, but I figure he'll pull up my info on the computer and give it to me in the ass. First question, "Do you know how fast you were going back there?" I sure as hell wasn't going to say 125. "Back where?" "I clocked you [4 miles] back. You must have been going pretty fast since it took me so long to catch up." "I'm not sure how fast I was going." "I clocked you at 92." Well, that's a relief. Only 27 over instead of 60. He must have clocked me as I was accelerating to 125, which is why I never saw him until a few miles down the road.
I gave him my information, and waited. And waited. The first time, it took only 5 minutes or so. After 10 minutes, I wondered if I was getting a ride to the pokey. He finally comes back after nearly 15 minute. "Well son, today is your lucky day. My computer crashed and I can't get it to reboot. I can't write you a ticket. Slow down and get home safely." "Yes, sir."
125 MPH in a 65 - $0
Getting clocked at 92 MPH - $0
Having the cop's computer crash - Priceless.
hahah potd ^!!
huh?Quote:

I thought it was 12 points.
I currently have 13 and have not had a license in 2 years so this could have changed I guess...but I really thought it was 12.
mcwop...definetly go to court....they can't get you in any more trouble than you already are.....the worst that will happen is you'll be laughed at....
NEVER just pay a ticket..ALWAYS fight that shit.....I know this sounds pretty ridiculous coming from someone who doesn't have a license but lets say instead that I'm experienced in court proceedings over traffic tickets:) .......in MI at least
Classic. :DQuote:

you with.
Something I've leared with the S4 is knowing when and where to let her roll. Driving 20 over in rush hour traffic is no place to speed. Not only is in very unsafe, etc, but there tend to be more eyes looking for speeders. Rush hour is dangerious and police are trying to make is safer.
Now, get away from town a little bit on a nice twisty road, or open highway and you can have a little bit of fun.
Southern Utah last summer on the way to Vegas, I decided to see what my new S4 would do. As I watched the needle go over 140 (that is way to smoov to not be addictive) and still climbing, I noticed was coming up quickly on a cop. I hit the brakes so hard the rotors must have glowed red. He put his lights on as the needle dropped below 100. I was positive I was on the way to some rural jail like in Chevy Chase in Nothing But Trouble but the officer just reached out his window and motioned for me to slow down, then turned off his lights. I was still in the 90's when I went past him. It was a 75mph zone. I felt hella lucky. And drove about 80 the rest of the way.
Also, I don't know how cops feel about it, but I've always figured once your over 25 over, minds well just let her go, cause the ticket is about the same either way.
Bum Z & LCC - you guys are lucky bastards.
LCC, if you're ever in Detroit with your S4, give me a call. I know of a few smooooooth roads in/around Plymouth that your S4 would love. :D
A-wreck - I thought they suspend your license if you get 4 pts. at once. I wouldn't know, though.
My worst: 125 in a stock Accord, 117 in a stock Civic, and never with another passenger in the car or traffic present.
On my motorcycle:
Sitting at a stoplight just waiting for it to turn green when a hot blonde pulls up next to me in a nice car. We'll I decide that chicks dig male machoness (I know, I know) but I had to do it anyway - big wheel stand for about 1/4 mile as soon as the light turns green. As soon as the front end hits the ground the lights go on behind me - oh, shit. I look down at the speedometer, not too bad, only 55 in a 40 but I'm definately worried about the wheelie. I pull over the two cops get out of the car and walk over to me and just stand there shaking their heads. Finally one of thems says to me "Didn't you see us back there?" ME: No, sir. Cop: We were directly behind you stopped at the light. ME: Oh, I was looking at the hot blonde. Cop: Yeah, I know, I saw you staring at her. Then he says: How many tickets you had on this thing? ME: None, sir. Cop: Really? ME: Yep. Cop: We'll you not going fast enought then!
I couldn't believe it!! He is laughing at me and telling me (sorta) to go faster!! He let me off with a warning for reckless driving - that's what a wheelie gets you.
Man, I'm not even gonna start on this one...
Yeah, please don't. That wouldn't be fair at all.Quote:

Just pay it. I would worry for the next one you get.
My WRX has gotten me 2 tickets in the past 6 months. That sucks. I forget how fast it goes when I am not thinking.;)
where is that video of you turning donuts in your suby?
I once got pulled over by local security for speeding
driving in reverse
in a golfcart
with two hot, drunken 16 year-old girls from Kentucky (not sisters) on board
and I tried to outrun the dude.
(I'll never forget Carry from Kentucky.)
Stub your toe during the chase?Quote:

Got you beat Mcwop. 4 tickets in 2 years in my WRX, lost my license for a month. Now I set the cruise at 72, no more speeding for natty. Oregon doesn't cut you any breaks.
Wait the WRX goes over 85?!?!? I thought that's where the governor kicked in. Uh oh, I'm in trouble now.:D
I don't know if you can do this were you live, but in washington you can deffer your tickets once every seven years. then next time you can just get a good lawyer. thats my game plan/ what I did with the ticket I got this month.(49 in a 35) kinda pathetic in terms on tickets but I was in a lifted bronco.
whats up with ticketassasin.com? does that shit work? I just got nailed doing 77 in a 55 yesterday. The cop didnt even ask me for my registration or insurance though...just my liscense... that seemed wierd to me. I was rushing to get to a wedding rehearsal to help out the groom who had just twisted his ankle, the cop didnt seem to care though. He just said " at that speed if you had a blowout your truck would have taken out everyone on the highway" ...yeah that happens to me all the time
I once had a '69 Barracuda with a loose lense over the speedometer. Got nailed doing 78 in a 55. But I could tap the plastic lense over the speedo and it would make the needle stick, so I did that as I was slowing down. When the cop (wearing his best Foster Grant shades) started the lecture, I said, "I'm sorry, but my speedometer quit working."Quote:

A friend of mine is selling his modded WRX since he has been nailed with so many tickets and he can't afford to lose his license. The car is pretty amazing, 400 bhp with the engine mods and different turbo.
He was racing with his buddy in another black WRX, cops nailed them, super pissed, got tickets for street racing, excessive speed etc etc... So the car has to go.
Not fair....I got busted doing 56 in a 45, I was the only car in a line of 4 that pulled over, the others just took off...Last day of summer camp and I get nailed for $180....I had no end of trouble trying to pay up the same day....being a small town you have to pay directly or by cheque in US funds (which you can't do from outside the USA)...cop reconed if I didn't pay I'd get arreseted leaving the country....he also said that forigners like me shouldn't be alowed to drive in the USA (don't think he had ever been out of PA in his life).Quote:

I recieved notice and show up at the JP's office on the appointed day. The cop is there and is approaching everyone there asking why we are appealing. He then suggests to those with clean records that if we plead to a lessor offense, we can just pay the fine and no points will be issued.
I jump on this and in 1/2 hour, I'm $150 lighter but am driving with a point free license.
I would with out question appeal the ticket and try to strike a deal prior to going into the hearing. May the force be with you, Mark
In Norway that would be over 900$ and at least a year without licence.... Thats why I don't have a fast car... :(Quote:

As y'all may know, if you're busted for going up to ten over in MT it's a $20 ticket (only if you have cash on you and pay it to the cop right then) and it doesn't go on your record.
So my brother-in-law was pulled over in August going about 20 over. The cop reduced it to ten over and charged him $20. He didn't have any cash, so the cop offered to follow him for 15 minutes to the nearest town/ATM, where my brother-in-law could pay his fine to him. Considering he had out-of-state plates, I was pretty amazed. Nice cop with nothing better to do, I guess.
All I know is that Montana would have a hell of a time trying to speed-camera equip all of I-90 and I-15...that is a whole lot of mileage to cover, and the state isn't exactly rich.
Not to mention all the state roads and highways.
Nice to know that speed camera proliferation will probably have a tough time in the boonies.
