Come on NorCal guys and gals, this is my first ski movie I've ever been in and I'm shamelessly self promoting it cause I'm as giddy as a school girl about my first premiere. Arty's coming, who else is in. Watersnowdirt?, telenater? britney? and any other mags?

i am strongly tempted to go, just to prove i am the girl in the hot dog pic and dispell any rumors to the contrary! however, i am driving up to the mountayns tonite, and supposed to be in sacto to meet a friend by 8ish. would be better if show was in east bay somewhere. hmmm... lemme think on it. :rolleyes:

PS Tap -- it is a running joke that i only know the city and tahoe, but have no clue about the vast stretch of strip malls in between. i do get to marin for mt tan and pt rays, etc, but guess i missed CM somehow! :D

Wish I could! Sadly, I'm in Boston right now (and yes, everyone is morbidly depressed here because of last night's fiasco) so I'll have to cheer you on in spirit.
But 12/12 is already on my calendar for the TGR flick at the IMAX theater in SF....

I would go if you would have a show somewhere near where I live. Of course my town is pretty small (only the second largest in the country), doesn't have any skiing nearby (2 hours to the local resorts, and 5 hours to Mammoth), and is full of people who generally like to stay home and avoid going to bars and stuff.
That's no excuse. Southwest flights are cheap!
Wow. Killer show. I thank god for the advent of DV. Now people who have the talent, but not the money that traditional film required, can put out some great flicks.
Alkasqualik and Ms. Alkasqualik picked me up in San Jo and we trudged through crappy bay area traffic on the way up to the north bay. Upon our arrival we were greated by a bunch of friendly faces awaiting the impending stoke. It had been a while since I'd seen laght so I had no clue that I was sitting behind him until he turned around and said hi. Good to see you mang!
Anyway the flick began with Alka hitting a nice cliff and we were off. While I didn't recognize a lot of the stuff in the movie, every now and then I'd pick out the Weed and flash a grin. There was quite a bit of jibbing, which I actually didn't mind. Alka said it well on the car ride home, it was quite a bit different from the normal jibbing fair. I'm terrible at describing intangibles, but it was good stuff. And of course there were some sick lines being ripped all over Tahoe. Multiple drops, airs, and this sick chute towards the end which got really narrow towards the bottom. Killer line. Oh, and Alka's mutli-pillow drop wasn't so bad either. ;)
What topped it all off was the schwag fest at the end. It was a small but enthusiatic crowd and almost everyone walked away with something. T-shirts, water bottles, stickers, etc. I even scored a pair of goggles. Schweeet. Plus we all got a 20% coupon to be used today only. Too bad I'm pinching pennies, because I could use a new pair of pants.
Also I was chatting with laght at the end when slim was changing nickels. It was nice to meet you. I can't wait til we can all ski together soon.
Oh and Oldtimer was there whoring himself for his book. Completely shameless. So naturally I had to buy a copy and have him sign it. :D
So a huge thanks to everyone involved. Thanks to laght for pointing the schwag giver towards me for the goggles, Oldtimer for signing my book and teaching me the ways of G.N.A.R., special thanks to Alka for the ride and inspiration, and naturally a standing ovation to Omen for putting together a killer flick and a great evening.

Definately a good change of pace flick. Cool to see a local mountain movie starring local guys who are obviously having fun. The show was completely worth the mad dash directly from the south bay job-site I was sentenced to for the day... showed up filthy and stinking but psyched to catch some ski porn and some stoke for the upcoming season. Counting down to November 22nd.
Although I am a litte biased :rolleyes: I did like the flick a ton. (Was the first time I saw it) Unlike the jib sections in Focused, I was thoroughly entertained by the jibbing. Lots of build up, excellent angles and brilliant editing to slow, stylee tricks with good music (Slightly Stoopid). Yes, it was Immersion like, but I think that's a good thing.
Anyways, it was good hanging with you Arty. I'm sorry I didn't get to talk to you slim but there is always next time. And I'll hopefully see the rest of you Mag's on opening day at Kirkwood. Peace,

If it had been next week I would have gone to see the show. Oh well.
Great evening, loved the beginning, I walked in the door and was handed some mirrored smith goggles for being first to the fest.:D
Can't take much credit for that though, I live 5 mins away. Coincidently, I was looking at buying those same goggles just that day.

Not a Jib fan usually, but I did enjoy the presentation here, a bit of humor and some very good skiers.
This film was so good I bought a copy :)
It was good to see Arty again and nice to meet and briefly chat with Slim. Sorry I didn't have time to meet Alkasquawlik. Looking forward to seeing you all again as soon as the snow starts to fly.
I picked up a copy of Oldtimers book also. I can see I won't be accumulating very many points.
I second the standing ovation to Omen. Excellent production.

Good movie. Saw it last night at the Truckee show. It definately seems to activate the stoke more when its your home mountains up there on the screen.
Heh, whats up with someone who was in the movie winning the heli time though. Smell fishy to me :D .
So did all you Kirkwood guys recognize all your favorite lines/terrain features?
Lots of Cirque footage in there from the comp. The crashes in the bonus section rule supreme for G.N.A.R. points.
Alka, was the line where you lost a shoe off that air in the Cirque, in the actual comp. or just a practice run?
Coupla hot tubs off what looks like Kodak.
Little Jims is in the bonus footy crash segment as is Slim Jims (kinda my made up name 'cause the take off is so freaking narrow...it's the rock outcropping in between the 2 Jim chutes that no-one ever launches...except here of course :) )
guy in blue jacket (J. Busher?) launching that cave rock (there's a milliion 'cave rocks at the 'Wood) towards the bottom of the palisades in that storm (Omen -- was that shot on the day prior to the Kirkwood comp...that big storm day?). I think I saw you guys a few times in the liftline that day.

For those of you considering movie purchases this year, let me give TWO THUMBS WAY UP for ah-mig-dah-la.
I have watched it about 3 times.
IMHO, this movie shines in many areas.
1) It is very soulful and yes, it is clear that omen was influenced by Immersion, but that is a good thing.
2) Beautiful video imagery. I wish I had Omen's eye.
3) Great soundtrack. There is a nice mix of soft stuff and some rocking tunes, but all of it is good. Does a nice job setting the mood.
4) Clean editing.
5) Good b/c footage. Good inbounds footage. Honestly, I like seeing guys hiking for their turns, I like seeing guys throwing down inbounds. I don't believe there is even one shot of a helicopter in the whole movie, and I didn't miss that one bit. Nice skiing alkasquawlik.
Only potential downside is too much jib. However, Omen did a nice job not being repetitive with the tricks, slowing it down a little and showing a soulful side to the park.
It is definitely a high quality DVD with nice footage but with something of an underground feel.
I like that it was made from people on these forums.
BTW, although he is from Reno, I have never met Omen or alkasquawlik. (opinion may have seemed biased.) ;)

What time is it at? I would guess if they show it shortly after the lifts close the rest of the weed crew will stay as well.

hhaha! I knew it! Yup, one of the best of the season, if not the best, for sure. I didn't see the tracks off that rock on that exact day, but they were there a week later and I figured someone must have hit during the storm cycle.Quote:

Lots of big stuff went down during those few days. I believe Big Jims was hit on the Friday of that storm cycle too.

They have enough snowmaking to open up at least Zach's or Sentinel top to bottom. I'll be there even if that's all they got and its all glacial blue ice. Be the best turns in 4-5 months!
I think that it's safe to assume that there will be one or two of us at the Kirkwood showing.
no way they will open the 22nd, it is still 70's during the day and not even that cold at night. forget about indian summer, we are still in regular summer. i wouldn't be suprised if it didn't snow at all till january. ;)
