Well it is supposed to snow up there next weekend, the weekend of the summit. avalanche danger is low right now. It is icey, but on the other hand there are supposed to somewhat mild temperatures this week, so maybe the ice will corn itself up. I'm no expert on mount washington/tuck's or backcountry skiing for that matter, but those are just some of the facts i've been looking over. I can't go the weekend of the 26th, so i'm definitely not voting for that. this is my attempt at a filibuster, while others vote, because i'm down for this weekend, next weekend, or the weekend after april 26th. i'll cast my vote at a later point. i have some pondering to do.
My reason for backing out from next weekend is that I'm still in school and working. I'll be done by May 10th, so I'll be coming up then, even if it's not the weekend of the summit. Plus, I'm a JONG and a nancy, so May will probably be better for me (and my girl).
this weekend is going to be a shitstorm of work for my classes, and will continue to be until the end of the semester. the 26th might work, but ill have to play it by ear
I was there today. It skied very well and certainly did soften up...
Dug a snowpit down by hermit lake for class. Ended up being the first to ski the headwall for the day (one person in black, one in orange). Someone came down our exact line right after us, but must have made 35 thousand jump turns instead of actually skiing it.
I am not voting because the deal with Tucks is that it is nearly impossible to plan a mini around a certain date due to weather/avy danger etc.
Whatever day it is going to happen, Bluebird and I will be playing it by the weather and making a game time decision.
Sorry to not be much help...
pretty much in same boat as bumpskier on this.
good weather will make it a definite possibility.
and that said, the later the date the better as i plan use my remaining lift ticket vouchers over the next 2+ weekends
I am thinking of hitting it up Friday AM weather dependant anyways.
Anyone want to lead me around?
I voted for a later date, although its for a different reason than others. (I have an "old-timers dinner" at my fire department that saturday, and the chief of a neighboring town, whom I want to work for, will be there)
I also think that the later the date, the better the chances are for good conditions, i.e. warm sunny weather, no bulletproof, etc, etc. (May!!) Even if not in may, I'd vote for the later April date.
I vote valleygirl's place be "on call" basis
the only issue I have is that if I'm going to drive 10ish hours, I'd like to ski. I'd be a little bitter if I got up there and had to call it off due to weather/avy danger. Therefore, it'd just make sense for me to kinda do it on my own when I have some time when school's over.
I think that it is important to note that the aforementioned date of April 26th is my birthday, so if that ends up being the "Tuckerman Mini", I fully expect a cake up at hermit lake.
Been done before...
Bump skier is spot on. I know it sucks for people that are traveling a long way, but that is how it goes with backcountry skiing. Tough to plan something that big around weather and avi conditions.
Personally, I hold out some hope for this weekend, but you never know. The weekend after is the Inferno.
It is what it is.
If anyone is coming over this weekend anyway, I will be around. There is still skiing around here for sure.
I heard attitash was free last weekend.
either way, tuck's or VG's ...I'm heading up.
Hope to meet the maggots I've been pining to party with...and Yes , I Will have change ready.
April 7 is the 75th anniversary of the repeal of Prohibition. Officially,
Prohibition ended on December 5, 1933, with the ratification of the 21st
Amendment. But earlier that year, President Franklin D. Roosevelt took steps
to fulfill his campaign promise to end the national ban on alcohol. He
spurred Congress to modify the Volstead Act to allow the sale of 3.2% beer
in advance of Prohibition's ratification. Thus, on April 7, 1933, Roosevelt
himself received newly legalized beer at the White House to toast what was
the beginning of the end of Prohibition. In the 24 hours that followed, more
than 1.5 million gallons of beer flowed as America celebrated.

Cheers
hey, was that VG that just blasted by us on her new K2 Luv's ?:rolleyes2
Voted for the 26th, but later is going to happen anyways...Inferno is the 18th-20th, so that weekend is out unless you don't mind sharing the bc with a few thousand brethren.
I wasn't very optimistic about the upcoming weekend, had heard from a few intrepid locals that it was staying bulletproof up there, HOWEVER......heard yesterday afternoon that with the way the weather's shaping up this week, it could be ready by Saturday...
I'm just sayin'....
I'll be up there this weekend rain or shine. I'm also bringing some buddies up from school (and by buddies I mean boxes of Sunset Blush Franzia).
Viva la revolucion!!
hawt water ~ cold beer !
there will be wheat !
I'm still committed to this weekend too. The next few weekends I won't be able to ski, so this is my only chance until mid-May. Myself + 3 are definite for Friday, and Saturday is depending on conditions.
I'm playing it by ear. If it is crappy, you will find me at Wildcat (mountain not the tavern:wink:).
Mixed reports:
- Bullet proof Ice, no chance of turning to corn
- Warming up this week, so it could turn to corn
- Rain all that weekend in the forecast
I will say, I have been looking forward to this trek for years, so I will be a bit picky about conditions. I'll figure it out Saturday morning.
I voted for the 26th.
Cannon was a corn-fest today. Didn't suck one bit, whatever day people pull the trigger on I'll likely be in as I'm in search of (albeit slowly) for a new job.
EW and I are out this weekend...work beckons and I have to do something with an apron or a chair or sumnthin...
The 26th is out b/c TacoBeanDip is having a partay & I'm going!
But if this happens @ a later date you'll see me there.
:)

I know...I know
:::hands in pockets,shuffles feet:::
But we still will bring the skins your way and do a trek this spring. Even if we don't make Tuck's mini we still want to skin the sherburne trail w/ you some May weekend that is good!
:)

The weather is looking pretty no-go for this weekend. I'd vote for the 26th but I'll be away. There's a lot of snow up there so when the temps get more predictably mild the skiing should be quite good :)
Dear Mr. the Tash,
Weather depending, I am going up. I need a few more ski days for sure. PM me your digits and I will do the same.
Trekkers? A lot of people use them there. I have never used them. I think you will be fine. That being said, what is your boot sole size as my Monsters are not in spoken for any longer. They are a wee bit lomger, 193, than your brigades.
I vote for postponing, since hiking thru rainy mud into sleet to possibly go for a ride on an avy does not sound fun, so this weekend I'm out. If the weather pans out well contrary to the forecast, oh well. 26th works for me.
I vote 26th as well
I was hoping to be up on the 18-20th but if its the inferno:eek:
Miniscus surgery pushed back. No dice.
Fack!
