Is something wrong with my gloves or my fingers?

I thought I had very warm gloves. I typically don't get cold fingers, have good circulation, and can't remember every really freezing them.
Lately, when I go skiing, my fingers get cold really easily. I noticed putting my poles under my leg so I'm not holding them helps. In fact, I notice as I'm typing this my fingers are a little cold.
I have Gordini Vertigo's with the little field test badge on the wrist.
It's a full gauntlet glove, very similar to the Marmot ultimate ski glove. Goat leather palm, Soft-shell back. Lavawool lining even around the sides of the fingers, Synthetic fill on the back of the hand, and Gore-Tex.
Has my constant typing of useless posts on TGR affected my circulation in my fingers?
I should add that they do warm up after a while when I first start skiing. But sometimes they get cold again later. As far as I knew, these gloves were too warm. I sweat a lot in them, and sometimes get cold coming out after lunch, just because they're wet.

dry the gloves out at night?

try a buddies gloves and see if it is you or gloves?

too much coffee? not enough B-fast?

Do they turn white/go numb?

Could be Raynaud's. I have it. I started getting it when I was a teen (17-18). Otherwise I have very good circulation. It can be triggered by diet and stress, in addition to cold, or a combination of cold and stress. It's worst when driving or skiing, gripping a cold steering wheel or a ski pole seems to set it off. When I'm skiing and I really start to work it tends to get better -- whether that's a function of increased circulation or something else (destressing?) I'm not sure.

Kind of a pita, but it's manageable. Windmilling my arms is the easiest way to get rid of it, forcing blood into my fingers -- though randomly swinging your arms about does tend to draw some odd looks....

Do you have sweaty hands?

I had chronically cold hands in any glove I tried - turns out I was sweating on the first run then freezing after that. Now I use gloves that are NOT waterproof, but more breathable, and my hands stay dry and warm. ie no goretex, no leather on the back etc.

Oddly enough, my hands always get cold when I wear Gore-tex gloves. I don't understand why, but i've had two pairs of gloves with gore-tex, and my hands got cold with them on. Now I wear a breathable glove, without G/T, and my hands don't get cold anymore. And I always pull the liners and dry them out, because I tend to sweat a lot when I ski.

And I have Raynauds.

I sweat a lot, but the back of the glove is soft-shell, not leather. I've never had this problem until recently, with the same gloves I've had for a few years.
@mtnlion, I usually have coffee and a muffin or a bagel every day for breakfast.

is it possible that the synthetic fill broke down or matted out?

"same gloves I've had for a few years" How many day in a few years? Of course they are matted. get a new pair, be warm again.

Do you smoke cigarettes?

No I don't smoke cigarettes. I fully understand that stimulants constrict blood vessels.

I'm 23, now. They don't turn white, they warm back up. Yes I'm under stress. Eye-lid flickering stress.

Age isn't necessarilly definitive. The fact that they don't turn white probably is. Mine have a creepy-sharp demarcation between normal pink and blueish white when they go.

wow, what happens to your toes? do you need hot tronics cranked to 11?

My friend had Raynaud's and her fingers didn't turn white or anything they were just always cold. Wear mittens or get a new pair of gloves which is probably your problem.

Toes aren't as much of a problem, for whatever reason.

And you're right, the color change thing isn't universal. It's sort of moot, though, as there's shit all you can do about it if you have it -- though apparently some studies have linked it w/ a vitamin deficiency or somesuch? I don't have the details on that, though I guess I probably should.

This is easy: you've got ankylosing spondylitis for which you're taking Enbrel, ferchrissake. Raynaud's is a well known side effect of many autoimmune disorders.

Nothing to be done about it but get the warmest mitts you can. I recommend the www.rbhdesigns.com trigger mitts.

It's definitely my fingers. They're not so warm to the touch, but in the gloves (only 2 years old) they warm up after a while. Never heard of Raynaud's being auto-immune. any more info or links you can give me? The symptoms are similar to having once frost-bitten my fingers, however, I'm pretty sure I haven't (I've let them get cold a bunch, though.)
I know this because I got mild frost bite on my toes, and now they usually go numb on cold days.
Maybe I need less warm gloves, since I sweat a lot when I ski?
As far as coffee, I haven't had any change in my coffee drinking habits, and this is a very recent development.

I noticed a pair of my marmot gloves going cold on me. I hand washed them, wow gross, dried them out, treated the leather and BAM like new on the warmth factor. Hey did that beta help at all on the Blaze??

yes. It's just a theory for now, but given time/money/proper equipment, it might be a plan, and then a trip. IDK where the forest service office is, but I'm sure it's not hard to find.

I get that when my MEC gortex mitts & 300polartech fleece liners make my hands sweat in colder conditions ,ever try a THIN poly pro glove liner?

Really thin and usually pretty cheap <15$, keeps yer hand away from the sweat soaked insulation

Note the association with autoimmune diseases, and also with several immunosuppressants used to treat them (cyclosporine, sulfasalazine). I've done a lot of research and know a lot about autoimmune diseases.

Forgot to mention: if you smoke, stop, because that makes it much worse. Like "risk of amputation" worse.

I've read that nerves that control blood flow to extremities are in your neck. Cold hands used to be a problem for me and for many years I've been wearing turtlenecks when I ski, which seems to help a lot.

And ditch those gloves for mittens.

alcohol is a vasal dilator... (when those cappillaries shut down, a couple hits of red wine turns your fingers into bright red snausages of warmth...)

tough to do on a daily/hourly/skiing basis...

but windmill arms really helps.

My fave bartender (Carrie) brings me a mug of hot water to wrap my mitts around the minute she sees my fingers on a cold night... but a shot works better... I'm just not practiced enough to order it.
