and he throws it. huge for sure
jesus christ that's massive. So this has never happened before in ski jumping or what? The guy got "lucky" and hit the jump strangely? I just don't get how they do their jumping in a way that the dude can pancake into the flats like that.
If it's just technology and technique, then I guess they are going to have to dial back the in-runs to reduce the takeoff speed. Either that or rebuild every ski jump facility in the world so these guys can carry 10 seconds of hangtime without going splat.
Thats crazy. It looked like he was about to touch down, then the wind caught him or something, and he lifted back up. Sucks he cleared most of the tranny, but it would have been a lot worse had he cleared just a bit more.
My god that looked like it hurt....
Reverse side cut ski jump skis? Shame they're so soft...
what are ski jumping rules - do you have to stick the landing for the jump to count?
Ouch! His ass will never feel the same. Can anyone translate?
That dude officially Gosey'ed that hit!!!!
:eek::eek::eek:
no expert but I beleive it is scored on a combination of form in the air, form on landing, but mostly on the distance aspect of it
hot damn
First two words that came to my mind: Jamie Pierre.
Major air for sure.
If I recall correctly, if someone like this guy goes too big in a round of jumping, they cancel the round and start over from a spot lower on the in-run to reduce speed at take-off.
240 meters, damn. Looks like he had the wax dialed.
dirka dirka hottub muhammad jihar!
that is my 5 wood
How would you like to go next after that guy?
^ i laughed. i feel ashamed now.
That nothing, watch this one.
thats is gold how he is waving to the crowd when getting carted away in the meat cart.
wow! I did some searching and found that the longest jump ever was at that same ski flying hill in Planica, Slovenia. 239 meters, just one less...and the guy landed it

Lurch, coincidentally, Eddie the Eagle was just in the news a couple days ago...he was back in Calgary for the first time since his Olympic Games .88 escapades.
and here it is

Is it in poor form for his team mates to call a beer fall on that one?
That sort of hugeness was easily worth blowing two knees for! Gawd daym.
239m to stomp, that blows my mind that 1 m makes the difference in the amount of tranny needed to stick it

Are those Metrons he's on?
^^ Linky broken
what's with all the saplings?
the dude who beatered at the start... if you listen closely you can hear the thwap thwap thwapping of the little trees smacking him in the junk.
Yes, that is it exactly. The red line you see screaming underneath that dude is the K point or critical point where the transition starts to seriously flatten out. If too many dudes fly past it they scrub the round and lower the start.
That was approx. 730 feet in the air. I figure when he realized he was still 10-15 feet off as he flew the K his asshole puckered so hard it ate his nuts
that's.
fucking.
huge.
but is anal breakage worth the bragging rights of that one??
Being from Norway where ski jumping has a long and proud history, I've seen my fair share of these competitions, in real life and on tv. Planica, where this clip is from, has a k-point of 215 meters, meaning this guy flew 25 meters past that
Points are given for length and style. There are 5 judges that give the style points, where 20 is the perfect jump (which also needs a certain length for the 20 to be given. The highest and lowest score is deleted. I think they deduct 10 points each for a fall and 3 points for a parallel landing. For max points you need to make a telemark landing. Apart from that it's all about even, steady skis, steady arms close to the body etc. This sport is not for possies, that's for sure. Just check out some of the crash videos on youtube.
