Tele skiing is for Gapers.:the_finge:the_finge:the_finge
Every day we ski I tell my wife that her bindings are broken and every day she looks down her nose at me but I'm a moron.
Free your heels, free your mind
Or
Fix your heels, fix your problem
It looks nicer, it requires more skill, and its cheaper. It can also be frustrating as hell.
But why hate on anyone? AT, Splitboard, Tele, we all love the BC, so stfu and ski, ride, or tele. :)
Just an observation.
Look around you on any given hill, about 1% of tele skiers can actually ski. I mean in the fall-line, quiet, square upper body, using a wide variety of turn radii and carrying speed.
Except for places like Alta, where about 2% are rippers.
I tried to make a wittier response, I don't know how to be "whitier", I'll reread this thread for ideas:

fuck art - let's dance!
The answer is yes, though I hardly do it anymore.
No, because I suck equally at alpine.
i just hate on texans. because i have yet to meet one of them who can alpine, tele, snowboard with skill above that of the average grade school kid in CO, UT, or MT
I have been teleing for 9 years now, some of the more fun days I have had was with people on snowboards. I don't care what you ride just ride the fall line. I literally am a gaper alpine skier, thats why I tele.
Everyone is equal on the mountain no matter what you ride. Actully nevermind snowblades is the exception
i think(high-level) tele'in is for resort livin' people who can ski 5+ days a week, or maintain a hi level of fitness. i fruit-booted exclusively for nine years, mostley averaging 50-90 days a year. when i had to actually settle down to a "Career", i felt the drop in ski days affected me adversley. when i started to Alpine again i was blown away how much more control and power were at my disposall. these days ,with dynafit products, i dont think there can be any crazy weight saving rants by the tele-crowd, that can't be matched by the DYNA-unit!
people that can't telemark should be seperated and disposed of. i was a fruit booter for around 9 yrs. its fun when your'e killing the fresh... not that i am the most balanced and sure-footed person out here....at least i ride alpine gear, and don't ask for more
Telemark - License to Suck....
The only people I look down upon are those that poach my line.
LEROY JENKINS!!!!!
I agree 100%. Go to any telemark symposia and observe the dork-fest. Not only do the majority of the attendees actually suck at skiing, most of them strive to acheive some level of legitamacy through fashion. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a Subaru driving wannabe dressed to the nines in Arcteryx, sporting a mountain man beard and using adjustable poles for skiing groomers.
I was actually told by a teleskier couple that a friend of mine wasn't much of a telemark skier because he didn't drop his knees enough. Funny thing was, the people making the comments are too chickenshit to ski off piste while my friend is perhaps one of the most accomplished local skiers around in terms of ability and style.
To me it doesn't really matter what you ride. If you suck, you suck.
Headier:
more pictures, less words.
I have been Telemarking for about 20 years. longer than most of the want 2 be "Norpiners" have been alive.... Any of you remeber Tele before plastic boots and 100mm skis underfoot. TELE is for Chicks and guys who want to ski with them. Sorry girls no offense.
Anyone who claims balance and skill needs to try some leather lace up's in the bumps with 60mm skis..
"lock the heal ski for real"
Anyone who wants to talk smack needs to get some real ski skill's before they come around here.. ya! that's a call out to any "tele wacker" that wants to try and show me what they got.
I went back to the "Dark Side" because I like to haul big boy ass in the Steeps and the Deep..Tele can't keep up.... reality sucks for you I'm sure
There is no way in all of Hell that you can keep up with a real Man or Woman on thier FAT BOY'S. All the "Tele Bro Mag's" that think they are a ski god where were you 15 years ago when there was maybe 2 of us!!! plastic boots and big skis make that turn so easy it should be called snowboarding.:the_finge
Speacial shout out to "JayKuhle" welcome back to the "Dark Side" enjoy the Speed and Power. Alta's better when you can "ski for real" have a great spring.
"Telemarker" Norse word for "Gaper in the way"
Please post a new thread when a consensus is made.
:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
Rideit - hit the nail on the head.
Telemark snowlerblades - join the revolution.
bet you your quiver i can keep up with you on teles yonskion
Once you have attained a certain level of Telemark, everyone get's ur' dun!
Take the knowledge your feet and eyes now control. Lace up some Leathers and get your old X-C skis out and run some steeps and bumps. The higher level still awaits. Then go back to your Tele's you should feel a difference in your balance and stance.
Then try Alpine on the biggest day yet to come. Feel the Power and confidence your years of Toe riding has blossomed, young Jedi. May the Force be with you.
But, If you want to come out and through down I'm around. It will be fun to Shred with someone who feels as confident in their skiing.
Like all Art to understand it's relivance to now... you must understand it's History. The Style of Todays Telemark turn was not used by Early the People of the Northern Europe for decent during hunting parties. Telemark is a beautiful thing but, I need more Speed. Just a personal prefence
i ski about 70 days tele each season, and i've got some big alpine boards for the huge days when i want to go straight and huck. freeheeling more then alpine makes a huge difference in your locked heel skiing. you can defiantly ski harder on alpine boards and have more confidence in your airs, but being able to ski as hard as i can, and as hard as the top peeps on alpine when i'm teleing is a goal i'm trying to work with. i know what your sayin about the old skool leather, totally different world, and i respect anyone who can hold their own on an older three pin set up. mary jane is my hill, the older dudes gettin er done out there with leathers blow me away, especially on the bumps. if your ever around CO hit me up yon, we'll setting this once and for all!
There used to only be Leather then.. The Super Comp.. Wow!
Mel I love to haul ass Tele, My fence is full of skis and bindings that tell the evoultion of the sport. I'm 37, since I was 19, the sport has taken off. I use to look up to the Old Dad's and have the same goals. I'm still in the prime of my skiing and I have my Telemark years to thank for my ability today.
I'm Serious about the Leathers training. If you want to get better than everyone else that's the way. They will teach you the sweet spot for sure.
got a pair your trying to unload? i have basically the polar opposite of leathers and super loops: ener-g's, bombers and squads...i'd love to put some days on leathers with jeans and a flannel...just need some zinc oxide..
