A-Basin: Potential Land Trade
Anyone hear anything on this? The basin could get a face lift if this goes through.
Summit County, CO (Ski Press) — Arapahoe Basin could soon be in the position to own private land at the base of its ski runs—a first for the Colorado ski area.
The Denver Post has reported A-Basin is purchasing privately-owned mining claims within the ski area’s boundaries and is in preliminary talks with the U.S. Forest Service to discuss a potential land trade.
The trade could conceivably give A-Basin land for future development.
While Arapahoe and other Summit County ski areas—including Keystone, Breckenridge and Copper—all operate on public land and operate under permits from the Forest Service, all except A-Basin own property they have been able to develop for lodging and skier services.

But wouldn't a few avalanches take of that problem. Kind of like people who build beach houses on barrier islands in areas prone to hurricanes.

Not if they're built well. I think the Peruvian has been hit a few times and it's still standing.
