wow
glad theyre not dead
but how stupid do you have to be
-duck that rope
-knowingly ski down that line when you know theres a cliff
-ski it anyway despite it being "hard powder"
-VIDEO TAPE and fully document your illegal actions
-be from texas
It's easy to point out where they fucked up.
What's a little more painful is to look at your own decision making past and present and see where you've made some pretty similar decisions. There's definitely a few spots where they trip from one bad decision to the next and it's easy to see how they make each decision. I've been guilty of getting sucked down the fall line before.
I do however like where they point the cam directly at the signs warning that ducking the rope could put you in the position of losing your pass and/or your life.
The lines sketch into BC sketch me out more than anyplace I can remember. Tempter? Nuts. The lines in the vid are almost as dumb.
point very well taken and a good lesson to take here
i do like the dialogue between he and his friend
one keeps saying theres a line and the other seems to just agree despite his initial objection. real human factor \ peer pressure going on there.
im just surprised the getting OUT of there was never an option, as opposed to their only option of getting DOWN.
Once you get past the stereotypes, the jokes, and that one of the kids names is Max, you can see how a series of bad decisions (ducking the rope, etc.) can "snowball" and nearly cost them their lives.
I have had just about enough of the stupid, rich, arrogant, douchebag, tourists from Texas! They skied (very poorly) into a roped off area, with no way out, in high avalanche conditions, read the warning signs, had absolutely no plan, and were wearing helmet cams!!! No avy gear, poor skiing skills, no training, and no clue! That whole part of the mountain was closed because they didn't know if anyone else was caught in their slide, and all the patrol were called in to do a manual search for victims. The wosrt part was the kids seemed to have no clue about the dangers that thet put others in that day! They were running for mommies condo when the patrol caught up with them!
These kids got off lucky if you ask me!
P.S.- If you little dweeds are reading this, DON'T COME BACK EVER AGAIN!! You suck!
I have lived here most (that's more than half) of my life... dumbass! Nice guess! Besides, that has nothing to do with it! I call em like I see em. Whenever sommeone does something so dumb that all the locals are talking... it always seems to be a Texan! Just sayin' is all!
I don't claim to know about your life! Genius!
ok, so Max and I made some bad decisions. touche. I just got these new skis and helmet cam for christmas, wanted to try 'em out on the gnar. I ski blacks all the time at Ski Apache and Red River, why should I be scared of OB at Telluride. The snow seemed plenty stable by looking at it.
Why should you be scared of the Telluride backcountry? These are the most avy-prone mountains on earth and have killed dozens of skiers over the years.
The snow LOOKED stable? You can't be serious. You must dig a snowpit before you can even guess about the safety of the snowpack! Have your mommy buy you an avalanche class and gear for christmas next time. Then practice, practice, practice. After that, befriend someone who knows what they are doing to show you around.
Stay away from the "gnar" until you increase your skiiing skills. i do, however, respect your post comment.
Hey lemon boy... Stop defending idiots for a minute and check out what other 17 year locals (who just moved here-like me) are saying about these kids. Even sweet old ladies in town are calling them dumbasses!
www.telluridegateway.com
first rule of holes, when you find yourself in a hole...stop digging that applies to me, max and his buddy and it applies to Tride toolbags too.
Thanks for diggin that up Lemon Boy [/side steps crap]
It's amazing the thing didn't slide when they were skiing in the gut of it.
awesome. I just made my own day.
thx Rontele
Did the gut go? The part I saw was the thin, convex, rocky, open part they were traversing.
"My mommy got me a helicopter for christmas so figured that I'd go try it out".... without learning how to fly it first! "Umm, then I crashed it and nearly killed some innocent people.."
"Won't someone stick up for me?!"
WTF???!!!
That was actually a concave avalanche gully (called Gold Hill #1) that regularly gets wind-loaded and rips naturally. It ripped when the first skier hit the "sweet spot" on the wind-loaded pillow. Even the most cavalier poachers on the mountain don't go in there. It's common knowledge. Hence the idiot warning signs!
Check it at close to -1:14 to -1:12.
Looks like about 20 feet above is crown. Maybe a staunchwall on the other side before it gets back to the gully. 2-3 feet deep. Rocky & somewhat smooth bed leaving plenty sugar behind.
DCNB, I'm not not sticking up for you, and I don't disagree with what you said. Just the way you put it. Showing some more respect goes a lot longer ways around here.
I thought Telluride lost in the play offs to the Andes who got beaten by the Himalaya's after extra time and a penalty shoot out. Of course there was the rumor that Nepal had been using steroids on some of it's under performing mid 18'ers.
Thanks for the cuntribution.
I can't watch the video at this point (at work)....
I will say that is quite a blunt statement but I agree with you. Their IGNORANCE is what almost got them killed, but bringing up where they are from does not help your point at all.
I guess you can only say they are stupid idiots on this board if they actually die
in the avalanche. In the future don't put is so bluntly, I mean show some respect
Bear Creek and the rest of the T-ride bc is NO JOKE, easily some of the most dangerous easily accessed bc in the country.
"I'm scared, but this is wicked."
I don't mean to be disrespectful to anyone that is innocent but sheeeesh! If you can't "diss" on these fools, than who the heck can you diss on? I mean really. Stop picking ME apart (trying to ASSume that I just moved to town, etc...) for just a minute and lets get back to the point at hand here. These kids did a really dumb thing!...and almost died.....and could of killed others in the process!
People are giving you a hard time because Chaka played you like a ten cent fiddle, like an internet n00b, like a JONG. I sure as feck don't have a problem calling these Texas fecktards out for what they are, and I doubt many others do either. I was going to make a comment about Darwin getting robbed but I forgot to.
Look at post 10 again. More carefully.
IMHO
Mountains do not discriminate. They can not tell if your from Texas or Telluride.
Dude, way to get on it boyz. Max, that shit was DOPE! Scary but wicked fo sho. GET SOME!
"Hey man lets duck the rope and make snowplow turns down the cliffed out terrain trap gully then gape around at the top of the cliff till it slides."
"Um I don't think we should"
"But look there's a powder area"
"Ok lets go be retarded"
I think this illustrates a lack of eduction that is very hard to address. Their prime concern was getting caught not the stability or terrain. Before living at a ski resort and spending time around locals and patrol I know I didn't have any idea how dangerous it can be. I'm just thankfull I was to chicken in my gaper days to duck ropes. I have no idea how to educate the masses but it needs to be done because at the end of the day threats from patrol only go so far.
Prehaps a complimentary avy eduction video in hotel rooms at ski areas?
Those are east coast accents, not texas. I'm guessing NH or Mass.
